  • NOT SURE WHY GYPSIES DANCE WITH SHAKIRA, WHAT HAPPENED TO REAL GYPSY SONG????

  • NOT BELLYDANCE!!! firstly they are supposed to be tribal bellydancers and their dancing to shakira??? erm.....NO! can understand the entertainnment value for TV but pleeeeeeeeeease stay true to your form of dance!!!!

  • The whole point is - they're not "girls"; they're women! Poor old Piers is *so* caught up in this ' if you're female, you have to be young to be able to be entertaining' idea that he's completely lost the plot (the old fogey... lol). Personally I think they're brilliant and the Urban Gypsies should've gone through.

  • i can see whoever makes those costumes is talented

    fantastic costumes XD

  • I liked it. One of the best things about BGT is the "variety" of acts in the semifinals. It's not just singers & street/hip-hop dancers, though those tend to be the acts that make it to the finals (as picked by the audience). The Urban Gypsies, Crazeehorse, Iona, Hoop La La, Strike, Kate & Gin (one of my top favorites!)--all great acts, very entertaining.

From the number of clips of The Urban Gypsies, it looks like they got some well-deserved recognition--and gigs! Great going, ladies!

  • this is really fun, and the dance is wonderful, thank you for sharing

    jade

  • what did they dance in the finale? or did the need the viewer's vote for that?

  • their dance is not perfect, but it has actually more to do with bellydance than Sophie May had :)

  • Interesting comment - what aspects make this more like belly dance that what Sophie did? Just rather curious, that's all.

  • The movements themselves. Sophie in her first performance apart from the shimmies did very little bellydance movement-wise. it was more of a "girl in the club" kind of thing she did, more fantasy than bellydance.

The girls, here despite dancing to a Latin song, did mostly Arab dance movements, if adapted to their style and spiced up for what in part is of course a comedy (like some of the chest circling :) ). And they did some Capoeira no? :-D

    f.e. 0.44, 1.25, much more classical than Sophie's.

  • @JanSilins I personally don't think they had anything more to do with actual belly dancing. Middle Eastern, more Egypt and perhaps a little of Libya, Sophie Mai did better. But that's because they specialize in two different categories. These women are tribal belly dancers. There's a large difference, and the two can't be compared.

  • but of course it's still quite different than what bellydance in Egypt is. I uploaded two of my favorite dances on my channel, Leila and Randa dancing both in Egypt at weddings!

  • looks like booby-dance to me

  • ya they overdid that aspect.. might be an "hommage" to Shakira :)

  • @dinavienna I agree =]

  • they loooove what they do, they look free when they dance!

  • I'm not sure how anyone thinks this is bellydance....it's just weird....fun, but definitely not bellydance

  • Yeah she Best Belly Dance Ever, like My friend Sophie Mei was Belly Dance on Season 2.

  • I think the major problem was that even if they were a tribe very supporting each other and all.

They had not enough tribal moves in their performance, the song was awful and they should have had less exaggerated costumes.

    Just my two cents

  • Mature women with bellies and boobs make the best belly dancers.

  • PIERS is a wannabe and i dont know why simon dosent fire him from the show, he is sssssooooo annoying and always trying to be the best :( they should kick him off and put kelly brooke on full tym

  • Fun to watch and obviously fun for them, too.

  • don't get to see simon in a tie on american idol!

  • well they have more energy than a lot of people of "the younger generation", haha. it's just lovely to see how much fun they have:D

  • Piers talking for the younger generation?

no thankyou!! Im a 19 year old male bellydancer and i love this! So much energy and life

    luv luv

  • culture is great.

now stop spazzing and find your own.

  • wow what a stupid, uneducated jerk off. The other two were smarter. that man didnt understand bellydance or anything. he is stupid.

  • Gypsies are not a race.

It's something like Türks and yörüks. Yörüks are Türkmen immigrants who settled in the Ottoman. Yörük means in Turkish someone who moves.

But yörüks are not a race since their race is Türkmen.

Same tale as gypsies, gypsies are allways the Romans.

Gypsie in every language is only said to the Romans. There are no Turkish or Arab gypsies.

  • There are romany gypsies in Turkey, Istanbul. They jump infront of cars and sell roses. They beggggg you to buy it if you dont, they spit on your car window. Just like the gypsies in London, Edmonton area..

They're all over the place. In councils, libraries, boot sales, shops next they'll be in the public toilets

  • Well I know there are roman gypsies in Turkey :D

But not Turkish sort like gypsies. Understand?

  • Yeah, they're all over the place. They speak Turkish doe and say that they're Turkish :| They're not

Does it mean im English just cause im born in London

    Hell no :/

  • Yahu sen Turksun nickinde farketmemisim :D

    Sen ingilteredemisin?

  • Yeah why?

  • Bos sordum, yasak mi?

  • LoL no yasak degil xD

  • puhahahahahah :D

  • hehe...

  • they are white, not gypsies? and why reggaeton?

    viva los gitanos!

  • You know, 'gypsy' isn't a race, you can have gypsies of any nation.

  • gypsie is a race and yes ofcourse we have gypsies in our nation.

The thing is that I didn't thought they looked liked gypsies 'cus they are almost whiter than me, and I'm from Scandinavia.

    Gitaneo!

  • Nomadic groups of all kinds are often referred to as 'gypsies'. Yes, the Romani/Romany/Roma people originated in the Indian sub-continent but the term 'gypsy' doesn't lump all nomadic people into one race.

  • you're trippin man. I've never said that all nomadic people are gypsies...

  • You said 'gypsy' is a race, but how can it be when 'gypsies' can be of different ethnic origins?

  • man you're trippin again.. Ofcourse gypsies can be of different ethnics, the gypsies in finland aren't the same as the ones in romania, but they are still from the same "race". Don't really know what annoys you...

  • Firstly, stop calling me man, secondly stop using the word 'trippin' whatever that means.

Thirdly, what I am trying to communicate to you is that Gypsies in India are not of the same race as Irish gypsies, for example. 'Gypsy' is not a race.

  • well I think so.. case closed.

  • Maybe look at the defination of race if you decide to bring this up again

  • They're just fun to watch because you know they're just loving to perform.

  • ..Piers the younger generation are not the only people that need to entertained...!! Its such a narrow minded view for an ex journalist..I thought they were fantastic if anything in the image concious society that we live today its nice to see that you don't have to have a certain look or shape to be confident about who you are and what you do if anything they promote healthier role models for younger generation in the sense that life doesn't stop after 20...shame on you Piers..!!

  • Thanks for the encouraging support. I don't know if you have been watching "America's got Talent" but Piers is being particularly enthusing about a bunch of ladies who were described as XL pussy cat dolls. So one thing you cant's say about Piers is that he is consistent !

  • I recorded the semi-finals and watched them last night. What a shame I would have voted a few times for the Urban Gypsies. I thought they were fantastic, so full of energy. Great music also.

  • What ignorant gits they are! In that case you did a great job to choreograph that piece at such short notice. I looked in on your website some months ago and admired the wonderful pics of you all, you seem to have a great group there and look as though you have great fun. The people of Manchester are very lucky to have such a dance school available to them.

  • they gave us the verse and chorus repeated with the punchy sections missed out. We pleaded with them for a live recorded version or a mix that the rythmic parts accentuated. Instead this goovy soft rolling thing - very difficult for a group as you need tight defined moves (and music)to make a group look good. Even worse still the rapid changing camera perspectives and concentration on any "boob" work.

Anyway Simon saying he would like to see them in the finals makes up for it!!!

  • I can see that you all work to a high standard of BD but why did you choose this music? did you think that the public at large would not appreciate tribal drums? Would love to have seen the posture and attitude of good tribal dancers. Even so, it was a good way to introduce tribal to the masses and no doubt you will have more opportunities to really strut your stuff as true tribal dancers. I hope you have had lots of offers to perform again in the media. Fab costumes too, Well done.

  • I am afraid that the producers chose "Hips don't lie." The Urban Gypsies HATED that choice but at the time felt there was choice as they were told "We had a meeting and it was decided.... etc etc" The Urban Gypsies would have loved to have drums especially a live band! That would have been so fantastic for everyone!
