That bastard was beyond adorable. Watching such a strong beast struggle at the dawn of it's death is kinda surreal. some humorous moments were when you sorta made him dance a little. This video just reminded me that I'll be seeing this "ritual" many more times, as I've already lost 4 incredibly beloved fish so far....and have dozens left.

I know how you feel but it is possible that if that's the tank it's always lived in then a bigger tank and proper water conditions very likely would have extended it's life considerably. For anyone's future reference,the thing to do in situations like this is to put the fish in a sizeable container of tank water and put it in the freezer.As the temp drops the fish will slowly "go to sleep" as opposed to lingering until death.

@TheJoKer261094 It's actually a South American species.Shouldn't have been old age.Hardy cichlid species have an average life span of 8-10yrs and as much as 15+. My guess is the tank size,water conditions or diet. A fish that size needs at least 100 gallons to live a full and happy life. Either way, the guy loved his fish and probably didn't know that or couldn't afford bigger so it's kind of hard to hold it against him.

I did the same thing with my Redtail Catfish... I was up until 4 in the morning trying to pull him backwards through the water... it sucked man. immedaitly and tossed him back into the trough with his pals...he looked pretty out of it for a while, and it took a bit of time... needless to say he is alive, and still i get the intuition in my head.. just how long was he lying there struggling to live, and didnt die..knowing that, i dismiss it in my mind that he is a survivor and as almost pointless as swimming around the same ole place each day..he has a reason to live.. - we're just lost souls swimming in the same fishbowl..............

Made me cry...and remember... ok we have a koy pond out back and have several Chubunka.. idk if i spelled that right.....anyways ..here in wisconsin the winters get real bitter, so we got a rough big enough to fit them all in during the winter and cold months..we placed it in our washing room of all places..one day, i went to throw a load in, and saw our biggest gold one onm the floor motionless..Me, already thinking it was too late poked at him.. to my surprise he flopped, as i rejoiced

I know how you feel but it is possible that if that's the tank it's always lived in then a bigger tank and proper water conditions very likely would have extended it's life considerably. For anyone's future reference,the thing to do in situations like this is to put the fish in a sizeable container of tank water and put it in the freezer.As the temp drops the fish will slowly "go to sleep" as opposed to lingering until death.
The guy loved his fish though.Can't argue with that.

@TheJoKer261094 It's actually a South American species.Shouldn't have been old age.Hardy cichlid species have an average life span of 8-10yrs and as much as 15+. My guess is the tank size,water conditions or diet. A fish that size needs at least 100 gallons to live a full and happy life. Either way, the guy loved his fish and probably didn't know that or couldn't afford bigger so it's kind of hard to hold it against him.

I did the same thing with my Redtail Catfish... I was up until 4 in the morning trying to pull him backwards through the water... it sucked man. I usually dont get attached to my fish but he was different. I could pet him and he had so much personality. I have a vid of him up you should check it out sometime. Sorry for the loss
