  • Hey Bellavia i am currently reading your book and you have truly brought that battle to life, I was Out of there soon after the first day because of a bullet wound in the neck but while i was there i shit myself about every ten seconds so I truly honor you, though I'm a marine Lt. i would follow you into battle any day

  • really takes the hollywood out of your idea of a soldier....very very good read.

  • HOOOAH !

  • ramrods!!!!!!!!

  • best war book ever written

    GO OUT AND GET IT!

  • Staff, you are legend. I read your book and it made me realise that cadets and the army are completly different things. But it hasn't, however, stopped my determination to join the army when im older.

  • Hi S.Sgt, you probably don't remember me, but I'm Alex, I introduced you to high school students in DC a few years ago, I just wanted to say, thanks for everything. You've definately been a great role model to me and many other teens in the world, and it was a major honor to be able to introduce you. Thanks!

  • David Bellavia?

Sa doit êtres un de ma famille lui ^^

et oui je mapel bellavia sa vous pose un proble?

  • David, I have never been more moved by any reading material that i have ever encountered!!! You are my favorite Iraq war hero,I felt like I was in the room with you when you killed that dirty insurgent who bit you! I was shouting out loud and outwardly emotional when reading House to House. If you ever get more time to write, please write about any other fighting you guys did in Iraq I am sure that many of us would like to read more about our heroes! God Bless You David!!! Alan

  • what a book man! i am a 16 yr. old kid! my dad's in the army, infantry! this is just effin' amazing! i recommend this book to everyone!

  • thank you

  • 25th ID

  • This guy is a soldier's soldier, a genuine American hero. I salute you. Sgt Terry king USMC 10 years

  • Hi David,

My maiden name is Bellavia..I grew up in NY...I wonder if we are related. Its a rare name to see.I had to respond..my nic on here is not who I am..its a silly name but im not a psychic

  • I wish every single American was just like this guy. We'd all be better off. Just finished his book, i felt like i was there with him.

  • THIS GUY IS MY HERO!! for real i am still reading this book i dont want it to end, the story this guy tells is amazing i feel like i was with him like right by his side, you are the reason i am joining the army and the infantry, i was definitely jealous that i was not able to be fighting next to soldiers that had the balls that you got man, thanks so much for ya service, hooah!

  • I e-mailed David about getting someone to make a movie about his book. He said to me that he did not want to have his troopers be made into entertainment. Now this is a real true solder. From what I think about his book or what I can take away is this. Keep in mind these are just my thoughts. I think he would rather die then see one of his solders die. Dedicated and understanding about the real world. The world we live in rather than the one we wish we lived in. I could go on. If you wish I can

  • @DURCO02 Not to diss him, as I read his book twice and it was quite an eye opener. I respect his patriotism and I honor men like him. But a book is entertainment. If a movie deal was offered, is he saying he wouldn't accept? BS . Wouldn't a movie honor his troopers just like the book did? Come on, just keeping it real. He could take the movie profits and donate it to Veterans if he felt so inclined. The truth is, there are many military heroes out there with similar medals and stories.

  • Pray for war, jarhead.

  • god bless you, david. god bless you.

  • I finished his book in 2 days!!

  • thank you sir

  • I enlisted in October. 45th Infantry Division. Hooah!

  • Very good book. Great Grunts book. This guy is my hero.

  • Awesome book! Thank you for your service David (and you too AlteredBridge)! It's because of guys like you that the rest of us are free to live our lives the way we do.

Also, read "We Were One" by Chris O'Donnell, about the Marines in Fallujah. It kicks ass!

  • good book...im glad my commander told us about it other wise i wouldnt have read it, i learned alot from this book, alot of stuff i can use during my tour to iraq...especially chapter 8-9

  • hotie22boy your a shit head too!

  • and your a dumbass liberal. David Bellavia is a hero.

  • read the book three times, and i love it. Thanks David. You are a hero.

  • i cried. his book and our country is the reason i joined the army infantry.

    1st I.D. ft. riley hooah!

  • i have recently read the book, its a gripping read and honest. the chapters describing his assault on the house were enthralling. you cannot but develop an appreciation of the average United States soldiers stoicism and courage.you contrast that with the behavior of their current foe. regardless of islam, the jihadists ideology is utterly savage, much indebted to currents of bolshevism and nazism as admitted by qutb its modern founder,a violent totalitarian ideology.

  • This guy's book is the best war novel ever written. I also heard he was recommended for the Medal of Honor for actions in Fallujah

  • Great book, but its not a novel. Mr. Bellavia is a true American hero.

  • indeed he was. i had a two year break in service (prior navy) had a great job back in chicago and then i read house to house. i called my army recruiter and it took about six months of me talking with my family and my boss, but i'm PROUD to say i'm back in the military as a UNITED STATES ARMY INFANTRYMAN!

    BIG RED 1

    FORT RILEY HOOAH!

  • I salute you:) and thank you for serving us.

  • I was 10th Mtn for 8 years....

    HOOAH!!!!

  • Well done Sergeant, I'm currently writing my book on my tour of the Stan. You sound so much like me, like how I write and think, I had to drop the book and grab a double scotch. Yes, I too am guilty of thinking about and reading about my old stomping grounds [Herat,Shindand, Sangin]and trying to keep up with some of my young'uns still in the shit. I don't ever want to go back but I too dream of bearing that burden again. Be well...sometimes there is only so much a man can do.

  • His book was amazing fvery touching story about brotherhood and bravery in the army

  • a true hero.

  • I read the book and couldn't put it down, people like david are true heroes. RESPECT

  • I got the book for my husband for fathers day he loved it gave to me to read and i love the book to

  • I read David's book in one day. It's an exceptional description of a soldier's life in battle. David is one of our heroes.

To the fool who posted that David is death: that's nonsense...and I suggest you go live somewhere other than the U.S.A.

  • i liked the book alot.

  • mr Bellavia, it's easy to kill, but it's hard to live with that. That's why you are alive, that's why you are death.

  • Absolute nonsense, secho86. I suggest you go live somewhere other than the U.S.A. Let's see how protected you'll be there.

  • Read the book to, absolutely amazing!

  • I literally just finished reading House to House. Amazing. I can't remember the last time I read a book where I'd lie awake in bed thinking about what I read just the few moments before and where I experienced so many emotions all at once while reading. Thank God for this kind of men who hold up the walls of civilization on our behalf.

  • wow this book is awsome it is a great book. i would love to be there supporting my country. my cousin is in the airbone and uncle in the navy.

  • Jellygraph, You're all wet and terribly naive.

Not once did Bellavia say he loves war.

Your name says it all: you are jelly.

  • "My whole life I always wanted to be that guy... you know, when I thought about what I wanted to do in the army, I thought about charging the machine gun nest and being John Wayne and doing the things the movies are all about."

I'd rather be naive than wrong.

  • Jelly, I've been notified that this is in response to my comment...but it doesn't make sense. Perhaps you could clarify.

  • No he said in the book that he hates war but sometimes its necessary. He doesn't like killing but was necessary. You jump to conclusions about who fights for your right to make those conclusions; give him respect.

  • i hope you get raped by a arab lol

  • How old can you be, buddy431? 17? That's how uninformed & naive you sound. Bellavia IS a hero, and furthermore, he has good moral values you don't even know about...no one taught you.

  • Go fuck yourself.

  • Awesome book, not finished yet, but amazing so far. Thanks for putting it all down on paper so we can see what life is really like for you guys who are often portrayed just as numbers on a tv news item. You rock.

  • i was in his unit in iraq. different company but some battalion. Didn't know him very well but he ended up getting a silver star.

    RAMRODS

  • David and his Brothers make me so proud and grateful.

  • The end of the book, when the book focused on his family; reminds me of my dad's Navy career the way I felt when I was young.

  • This book was intense. I just finished it last night and some of the horrors I read stuck with me and caused me to have a very restless night of sleep. I can't imagine the stress a soldier faces just being there, day to day. The only way to really know what's going on in iraq and afghanistan is to read books and journals from the people who fought there, not the government controlled media outlets lying to us and sugar coating it. It's a mess over there.

  • I'll have to pick this one up. It's got nothing but good reviews on Amazon.

  • house to house is a great book. im just done reading it. I'm 14 and im gonna join the army. probably the airborne i hope. i read this book and it gave me a very real look on what they went through at falujah

  • I'm 47, to young for Vietnam, to old for the middle east. So I feel that every soldier serving now are taking bullets on my behalf. They sacrifice their bodies and minds so the rest of us can lead soft cushy life's. I could never think them enough. Never will I complain about the little inconveniences that occur from time to time while fellow Americans are dieing so that I can have them.

Thank you David Bellavia, Thank you!

  • yeh zekkjedi, you didn't really have a war to fight. And even if you did, in the immortal word of Samual Hale: "I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country."

  • Great book that captures the true essence of being an Infantryman in Iraq.

  • I don't think anyone could ever repay this man for the things he done and how well he served a true hero and a true solider god bless this man

  • Why do people always have to spread their politics in these threads?? This isnt about Bush or Islam or what is right or wrong. This is about bravery, loyalty and honor. This is something that can be seen on both sides. Thank goodness for us, SSG B. is far better at his job than those on the other side.

  • hey SSG this is doc hiller of 2nd plt C co 2/2 INF... i just picked up your book upon word from another ramrod.... wow man. ive never cried from reading a book.

i was sponsored by the military channel for some of my videos. check em out.... and so you know im for real....

    DUUUUUUUUUUUKES... duty first.

  • Just read his book over the weekend. Shocking realism and heroism. Very well written. --Could be a movie some day? I wish more people would read this book to see what really takes place in this war. There really are very bad guys out there and were it not for these brave men we would be in a lot more danger than we (often fail to realize) are in now.

  • Great book! This guy's a freakin" stud! Took a house full of terrorists by himself, one in hand to hand combat. Another great book about Fallujah is "We Were One". Both are 'must reads'!

  • Thank God for men like you. I hope to be serving soon.

  • keep up the good work ...

  • Thanks for doing a great job. Regardless of the politics, you soldiers are doing what you are paid to do. Obviously Bush was re-elected by a large majority and its too bad that they are now Bush beating. I don't agree with the whole situation, but as I stated, you are doing what you are paid to do.

  • How gracious of you...

  • good interview

  • While I do not support what is essentially an empirialistic shakedown at the expense of civilians, i agree with the first comment: it's interesting to assess the whole sordid business from a random soldier' pov... I like that it focuses on the guy's personal experience and choses to forego a political stanceof any kind... the shooting and edit could be more compelling. The human angle is lost in the corporate feel of the piece...

  • Obviously, jeraddatz, you've been reading & listening to nothing but leftist, socialist pap your whole life. After 17 resolutions of the U.N., that fairly useless body of scam artists & grifters, GWB had the guts & the high moral ground to make it clear to Saddam & France, Germany, Kofi, etc., that the dishonor would stop with positive actions of the U.S.A. Iraqi civilian casualties have been extraordinarily minimal, thanks to our technology & humanity.

Do us all a favor, go to Iran & stay.

  • From a Marine to a Soldier I have to say, very well put. I half expected to find some liberal anti-Bush video when I first saw this. Glad to see that someone's telling the story instead of saying what's popular in the media today.

    Semper Fi

  • I'm glad you made it home, Thanks for doing what you do for our Freedom.
