THE soundtrack to the absolute end of the innocence..the '60's.. the best of times..the worst of times (viet-effin-nam..public executions of political leaders) every one kwuel in the arts, music and fashion have tried to harken back to that era since that time ..and for good reason...beck and radiohead are my fave 21st century embodiments of this spirit....^^^^^^ ****** thx
@ Mououlu-you are freaking me out.Your whole post could have been written by me-including the czech language and the father that passed away.i hope both our fathers are in a better place.Rekni kde ty kytky jsou....
This song has such an old sound to it. I know the lyrics, but the song itself just sounds of better times even though I don't think the '60's were all peachy. Not with 'nam. Hard to put into words, but basically just a melancholy beautiful song.
i was singing this song (in czech version) when i was seven years old with my dad, who is dead... great song and great memories. R.I.P. dad, i love you!
jeez, takes me back to taking a searcers album out from my parrents hoard of albums and listening to this, being entranced by the sound, loving the music, thanks for the post and the memories, oh, didn't they look smart in those days, lol.
My mum used to love this song and I think that it would go down well in their live shows, especially since so many soldiers have been at war for such a long time!! THEY SHOULD SWAP IT FOR YOUNG GIRL and could maybe slow it down a bit and I'm sure the audience would join in!!!!
This is a first for me!!! I am more familiar with the Kingston Trio's single...but The Searchers work up a fine harmonic convergence in their own way for sure.

Love that song. I'm only 22 ^^
Noticed that lots of songs of 1963 are really awesome. That was a great year for the music.

@rich88b-hi Rich, yes I bet this song would be a better concert song than "Young Girl" for the Searchers and their audience. Ron
