His name is Dan Osman. He was a Japanese-american free-climber, needless to say he's now dead. Also this is rock climbing. Not mountaineering, or even "mountain climbing" :S.

Yep Dan was amazing, he died after a rope that had been through a period of bad weather failed on a huge freefall jump, bad judgement yes, but a huge personality and talent greatly missed. Why the crap comments, google or search his name on youtube, he was a legend, it's the thing he was famous for, one of the best, if not the best extreme climber ever. R.I.P fella.

"Dan Osman died November 23, 1998 at the age of 35 after his rope failed while performing a "controlled free-fall" jump from the Leaning Tower rock formation in Yosemite National Park. Osman had come back to Yosemite to dismantle the jump tower but apparently decided to make several jumps (over a few days) before doing so."

Moral of the story - You can only get away with staring death in the face so many times before death stares right back at you, and takes you ass down. Only a matter of time.

Man I was so uncomfortable the first time I rocked climbed and I was top roped on a 5.7. Now I have the balls to do big walls but I will probably never do this. I have done like 30 feet without rope but it is one of those things where you can't wait to get up.

This guy is fucking insane though. Without a doubt greatest rock climber ever.
