  • your amazing Maria! love you and your music , your still beautiful!

  • JUNE 1974 THE PLANETS WERE ALIGNED FOR THE BEST MUSIC.. CHAKA WAS IN TOWN AT THE SAME TIME MARIA WAS QUEEN OF TOP FORTY..WHY NOT MELANIE.. when i see these retrospectives..like woodstock and that pbs folk series thing.. wherre is joni mitchell and melanie.

  • John Sebastion was talking about this era at his concert tonight in Montreal - their stories pretty much match

  • What a sweetheart. And 'Midnight' is, as others have said here, just a perfect song.

    Thanks for posting these clips.

  • Don't know why Midnight At The Oasis hit so big? Maria, those guitar licks by Amos Garrett and your voice killed! That's why. It's not rocket science. Though I loved that entire album, Midnight At The Oasis is a definitive moment in that period in time.

  • oye maria no mames por que te dejaste engordar, no se vale

  • Well... I was 9 when this came out and I didn't know quite of what she was talking about in the song but I did have a crush on a classmate who's name happened to be Maria. Maybe a video should be done for this song. I'll be the star.

  • a friend of mine included that song title in a conversation in his book as a means to pay homage.

  • Maria was an absolute BABE and Midnight at the Oasis is definitely one of my all time favorite songs - soooo unique, with one of the most original guitar solos ever! Thanks for the memories Maria.

  • She mentioned Todd. Cool :-)

  • MARIA ! you are my sex symbol of 1974 for that song ! In the one youtube you low cut jeans and top showing your tummy, reminds me of my face exactly in those days which was great 'sex'. Thanks for that song. I loved it then and its now on my favorite list ! IN my old age re-living the old days... since this economy is NOT what I voted for !

  • Yep ...Maria as you know , 'Ya gotta pay yur dues down at the union hall or in Columbus Georgia like Ma Rainey.'

Ry Cooter and David Lindley ? Git outta town !

  • a bit long, but, it's worth the wait if you're into the history of "n.y." rock.

by the way....one of my favorite songs.

  • Maria is a multi-talented woman, I respect her very much as an artist!

  • It's funny to hear her say she didn't know what it was about Midnight at the Oasis that appeled to so many people. It's that amazing vocal she laid down that meshes so well with that smooth guitar. Just a perfect song.

  • Insulted? For giving the band sex appeal? How ridiculous! I've seen this woman perform many times and she is ALL about sex appeal! She can be insulted all she wants but without THAT component she doesn't have a snowballs chance.

  • lonemapper....you better listen to Maria explain that again, and for YOU, maybe a third time, because you did not hear what she said about sex appeal.

  • I heard what she said about sex appeal, maybe YOU need to hear again!

  • She said that because it was before Women's Lib she didn't realise she was supposed to be insulted. In other words, she wasn't insulted. Incidentally, I think her voice might have had something to do with her success.

  • Her voice had everything to do with her success, as did her sex appeal!

  • Never mind. She just said it. Rhymes with "car."

  • I've been a fan since the 70s but I've never known how to pronounce her last name. Does the second syllable rhyme with "air" or "sour?"

  • She has such a unque voice. In 1973-1974 she had a great body. She had really had a sexy booty, ha ha and could really play her instruments and a very unque voice. Love you Maria

  • @atp1962 yes i would eat here asshole THEN!! Not now!

  • What a sharp character! And a great song!

  • I first heard her sing while record shopping one day in 1973...bought the album right then. Such an original with her own distinct sound...

    Maria D'Amato - you rock!

  • She was, and is, a class act! I loved her voice the first time I heard it - wore out the MATO album and then replaced it 25 years later with the CD. Thank you Maria!

  • What a humble, sincere lady she is! I like the way she casually expressed the background to one of the most mindblowing songs of all time. In 1973 was 17 yrs old and just getting ready for work on a hot summers morn when "M.A.T Oasis" came on the radio. Maria's voice was perfect & the guitar solo by Amos Garrett left me in a daze for the whole day. As soon as i finished work i rushed to buy the album. I'll never, EVER, forget that day. Thank you Maria (and Amos).

  • thanks for posting ,i was 10 at the moment and living in Puerto Rico, this song has always been in my memory...

Thanks for giving a chance to those around you,one very fortunate decision.

  • I was born in the fifties, and I was a singer in a rockband, I always like her to, I am originally from ny and we used to go into the village, so I a with her on that scene. God bless you Maria

  • Maria expresses herself so well because she is anything but the hippie sex bomb they made her into. Her mother was a school teacher, her father a self-taught, eccentric knowledge junky who rode the subway reading the encyclopaedia on Sundays to get away from the family. She qualified for NY's best high school for girls, Hunter, which she passingly mentions in the earlier video as if it were a neighbourhood diploma mill. She plays down her good education because it might alienate her fans!

  • I always wonder about the stories behid he songs...it's good to hear Midnight at the oasis' and david nichtern's story. I hope he and she are still getting royalties.

  • Maria really impresses me and she was such a sweetheart in the 1960s. How could anyone not love her?

  • great to know the story.....

  • She's so genuine and down to earth.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting. Maria is a very talented lady who's been there, done that and come out a survivor. God bless you Maria.

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I am so impressed with the way Maria can tell her story without an interviewer prodding her along. She is so articulate and keeps the communication flowing like a pro.
