u woulnt wanna be on ur back in a street fight worst case senario is u end up there any kind of guard is a defensive posture but i think a skilled Spider guard practicioner can pull it off even with no sleaves ti grip on cuz to my experience its hard to hit someone in the nuts from standing now the s second the guy on top raises his foot to stomp a skilled practicioner would emediatly sweep cuz thr guy on top just limited his standing base
Why not? If youre an excellent spider guard player you would know that it is used with a rocking unbalancing control that shouldnt keep him stable enough to lift a leg and stomp on your balls with balance on one leg... Im just throwing that out there, that and even then i dont think someone would go into a street fight without thinking theres going to be striking... I love this vid. Caio Terra is a beast
@maxxonpower This move is meant for competition jiu jitsu and not for street application. Nobody would ever pull spider guard on the street... I hope.
@maxxonpower The very first UFC's were very close to a real fight, they did allow groin shots, headbutts, kicking downed opponents, the only things weren't allowed were biting, and eye gouging. I know most Jiu-Jitsu guys know better than to use spider guard in the streets, we have seperate techniques for the street. I train at a Relson Gracie School, and he is known for having some of the best 'Street' Jiu-Jitsu.
@maxxonpower I wonder why no one thought to do that to royce in UFC 1,2,3,4? They allowed that kind of stuff, yet no one did it, It's an option, yes, but not completely effective. It might even make the guy you're fighting snap your elbow, or hold the choke longer once the holds are sunk. Learn about fighting before posting.
I see Caio using pistol grips---That is okay? I was under the impression that a hook grip is better for spider guard. Man, I have all there calluses on my fingers from hook gripping the sleeves so much! Pistol grip would be much easier.
@Dizzlehog there's some nice sweeps from that position too. first, you switch your right grip from your opponent's sleeve to his left pant leg. next you flare your left knee out to at least a 45 degree angle to the ground. as you flare your knee, lift his left pant leg and use your right leg to "chop" his torso and knock him off his base. the knee flare will also help bring your opponent off his base because of the overhook on his arm. sounds confusing, but get stoned and read this again.
I really like this guard, except when someone uses it against me... It`s a pain in the ass and totally takes away my weight advantage. Strongly recommend using this against heavy guys, because it works fine against me. I have figured some ways to defeat it, but still need to perfect them.
@graciehunter100 if they sit on their butt hip in and take mount its basically a free 6 pts. but most wont do that they will, however go down to one knee in which case you can still complete the sweep as shown or you can go to De La Riva guard by hooking around his posted leg.
what part were you having problems with? There is something not very obvious in the video, but at 2:00 he mentions that you need to pull him into you (with the foot in the bicep) once he is close you have more control to do your sweep. he made this clear when he taught this position, but the video doesn't make it clear. hope this helps.
when you sweep him, does he have to be bent down? also, when caio says to pull down the arm and the other one up, does he mean to push and pull towards you or directly up and down?
If he is able to posture you lose alot of the control.
it is more of up and down motion. he even goes over his head, or to the side with the up leg, while the other curls his arm almost underneath him. I think alot has to do with feeling where you can off balance him.
also remenber that this is the CONCEPT, it doesnt have to work exactly like this...this is for you to understand the move...once you get, many variations will apply
@RedhouseBJJ I am not very familiar with BJJ but for me it seems that Caio uses traditional idea of tomo nage from classic judo. And one of the basic rule for tomo is that you have to pull and stratch oponent kind of like over you head. If you just pull it wont work , it is combination of pulling pus stratching,
I loved your video. I came across a site that will help your channel/video become more popular. It has really helped me out a great deal. The name is Tubeviews . Net

Caio says pistol grip is better for attacking and the hook grip is better to defend. Hope that helps.

Looks like the pyramid guard taught by helio to people like david ruiz, royler etc. Similar principles, pretty cool

what do you do if they sit down - many people will not stand up and allow you to control them
