  • I love this commercial. Great parody on a classic nostalgic jingle from my childhood.

Also, watching Youtube on a horse is clearly a fantastic idea. I'd try it if I had a horse.

  • what's the bell hop doing? looking at porn? I know it can't be that, but until I find out... THAT's what he'll be doing.

  • does verizon charge you if you upload mobile videos from your verizon wireless phone to youtube? plz respond to this question cause i amm concerned & Verizon is expensive. & i ill only take answers from anyone that has a Verizon mobile phone & has the experience they have had with Verizon i will not take answers from people that like ATT or have an ATT cell-phone cause they don't know jack shit about Verizon except the I-Phone going to Verizon. & I have been with Verizon all my life.

  • i just don't know that much about Verizon which i should know. Verizon-fan-4-life

  • This commercial is fucking horrible why does it show some black guy in plaid twice doing some dumbass dance

nothin funny about it especially not the horse that is NOT funny

  • Probably because the guy on the far right has a Big Red chewing gum Tee Shirt on...

  • mmm hot girl with nice legs

  • "download stupid stuff much better" hahaha

  • The only thing that pleases me about this advert is that some idiots paid probably tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars to an agency for this terrible 30 seconds and then have to pay again to get it on the air. And yes, I do 'get' the point of the advert and the bits they've borrowed. That doesn't make it any less terrible.

  • This ad is very catch and ingenious and is probably worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce. For an ad to get of 100,000 views on YouTube in lil over a month is pretty good.

Are you just jealous that you weren't the "idiot" that made it?

  • your opinion is objectively wrong, this commercial owns

    peace and love to you

  • My english teacher calls this kid with reddish skin "Big Red" lol

  • Sorry Dude, but from an advertising standpoint it's genius. I mean its an AD for gawdsake and 100,000 people have come here to watch it !

  • Yeah, but it's crap! I don't even know what it's trying to sell me! Is it a phone? Is it internet? What the hell is a "wireless carrier"?! And why does it have a fucking jingle?! It's a piece of technology, not a freakin chocolate bar! Good god! I'm not trolling you or anything here, but this advert makes no sense whatsoever!

  • @Furagata They stole the old tune from Big Red chewing gum. And I guess they call their Verizon coverage "Big Red" because their service is scattered all over a US map with red points.

  • Hello! It triggers nostalgia! Love this spot!

  • @vertigox64 Actually Wireless 3G is the data connection via cell phone transmissions and yes they are a wireless carrier, they own the network and the towers to connect. The devices are made by companies like LG, Samsung, RIM etc.... They are like an ISP in their own right so Wireless carrier is correct they are superior over AT&T because AT&T hasn't invested as much to get their data coverage to be nationwide only in small patches in large cities.

  • "Wireless 3G" would mean 3rd generation wireless. "3G" may be enough for people to understand what they're referencing, but saying "wireless 3G" is hardly redundant.

And your beef with the "wireless carrier" term I'm a bit confused with, as that is indeed a commonly used term to describe a wireless telecommunications company. They provide the infrastructure and service that enables wireless voice/data communications. Just as a land line 'carrier' provides phone services.

  • "Watch youtube on a horse!"

    YESSSSS hahahahaaa

  • Great to see David Nykl staying out there.

  • never underestimate the stupidity! wrigley will be along any minute to kill this, one hopes.

  • I think somebody needs a hug.

  • Woah! Chill out. I have to agree with you its not "genius", but you have to admit that it is a pretty good comeback.

Yea, yea, no one is original anymore; I feel your pain. T.V. shows, movies, music, and fashion is all being recycled nothing new just re-introduced and made into a fad.

    Just chill a little ^_^

  • Always loved the Big Red jingle. Way to go, Verizon. A little blast from the past every so often puts a smile on my face!

  • It's the spoof of Big red Gum Commercial. is that allowed?

  • @IluvDonnieandJordan More than that: that Verizon commercial is a homage to the Big Red Gum ad as well.

  • @IluvDonnieandJordan If parodying music was not allowed, Weird Al would've been out of a job a long time ago

  • Heck, this makes me want to buy Big Red gum!

  • I'm sure they had to pay for the jingle. The lyrics were all Verizon.

  • Wrigley's "Big Red" logo is right in the commercial. Obviously Wrigley was in on the commercial. They probably agreed for Verizon to use the jingle for a small fee on the condition that the gum logo be sneaked in somewhere.

Not that there really needed to be a fee. The fact that this ad is giving the chewing gum some publicity at no cost to Wrigley would be worth letting them use the jingle.

And Weird Al always gets permission from the producer/artist of the songs he parodies.

  • True all of this, and hey, Barry Manillow (spelling?) wrote the jingle originally. :)

  • Okay, this made me smile.

You don't see a lot of jingles anymore-- it's sort of sad that they just had to life one, but it was done well. They deserve kudos.

  • Doesn't the sculptor look like one of the scientists from the show Stargate Atlantis?

  • The black kid on the right @ 0:07 had a big red T shirt on, lulz.

  • who's the Girl in red xD

  • Genius marketing and probably the best commercial rip-off ever!

  • Usually Verizon commercials are annoying...this one was actually cool since they went for a nostalgic angle. Maybe if more of their commercials were parodies of older commercials they'd be less annoying.

  • i signed onto you tube for the express purpose to vent my malcontent for this commercial. please stop running it on hulu, its getting really really annoying.

either that or please, more people advertise on hulu...

  • I can't stand VZW as a Company but I love this commercial.

  • they totally ripped off the big red gum commercials!!

  • : /

    it's called a homage.

  • yeah i got that eventually

  • OMG I would have never caught that! That SUCKS!!! Oh...wait. No...you suck.

  • uhhh okay?

  • Water is wet. Zebras are black and white. Air is good for breathing.

  • omg THE GUY IN THE GLASSES LOL

  • what's the song called ?

  • It's just the jingle from the Big Red chewing gum commercials from 20+ years ago.

Great jingle btw. Amazing how much these commercials get drilled into your head. The Big Red commercials were probably on some betamax TV recording of Star Wars that i rewatched 100 times over when i was a kid.

  • ROFL HA HA HA HA HA HA HA the big red commercial revisited

  • That...was...disturbing...

    O_O

  • I think I'd rather shove pins in my eyes than watch this again...

  • verizon's 3g coverage, now in mint flavor!

  • Whether you like VZW as a cell phone provider or not, you gotta admit this commercial is pretty good especially if you grew up watching the original Big Red chewing gum commercials.

  • lol @ :25 there is a couple making out in the background like the original Big Red commercials.

  • I like the horse part. :O

  • LOL... funny commercial!! I'm switching from t-mobile to verizon right now!! lol

  • Comment removed

  • iPhone owner here. Wish I had iPhone on Verizon Wireless. Ma Bell sucks. And I love this song.

  • I hate Verizon, but I love this commercial. Bad telecom company, good advertising agency. All hail McMann and Tate.

  • Ah, crap. I mispelled "Verizon". I guess that just goes to show you that I'm cellphone-service-impaired, lol.

  • Recycling an old chewing up jingle isn't going to make me like Verison any better. The "Can you hear me now?" commercials were much better.

    LOL@ Piproto!!! :-D

  • gets your boring job much better LOL

  • it's ditch*

    :}

  • @user92126 download stupid stuff much better

  • I don't know about 3G coverage, but their regular voice service puts Kirby and Hoover to shame!!

  • Am I the only one that feels like Verizon thinks I'm an idiot. Like they are saying "Hey stupid, lets reference a dumb commercial so idiots feel in the loop and play to them with stupid internet non-sequitur style humor." This is the trash you get if smosh opened an add firm. Though I'm smart enough that my phone doesn't have to be so maybe I'm just not the target market....

  • @LethalGopher

    Yes

  • How you jump to that conclusion is simply amazing. And I would be inclined to think you are most definitely in the small minority on that as well.

    Wow.

  • All ad's are like that. They talk down to you and try to entice you.... regardless of product or company. Thats why I love my DVR.

  • lol

  • Funny!!! Good comeback Verizon, but AT&T will always be ahead of you b/c of the iPhone, not necessarily the coverage. I'm happy with my service with AT&T. I've been with Cingular before AT&T anyways. No complaints from me. ^_^

  • ATT will always be ahead because of APPLE. The brand blinds people and makes them say "I gotta have it"... regardless of cost, quality, etc.

  • I love my iPhone...I dont care about status or anything! I have to admit though it really helps when you get in the elevator with your boss and he asks about your iPhone ^_^

  • Okay, I'll bite. What do you love about your iphone?

  • I love the fact I do not have to carry my ipod and cell phone, I love the apps such as "shazam" it ID's songs if you can't remember the song and I can post it to Facebook, and Accounts allows me to manage my checking and savings account and tracks spending habits with out having to do the formulas in excel (I know how to, but it makes it easier) or keep a checkbook registry.

  • I love the email, I can keep up with many email accounts including my work account at once without having to be near a computer. I dont like Safari browser, but it works when you want to surf the web. I love the photos I can take with my iphone and upload them to Facebook. I use Google maps to find lets say, "Walmart" and locate all the stores just touch the pin and the phone number pops up I can call without writing down the number.

  • "Around Me" is a really good App that lists venues by category like gas stations, hospitals, hotels, parking, etc within your current area. I love the App "SalePrice" while shopping and I see an item that's on sale liek 50% off with an extra 20% the App calculates it for you. (I know calculators work just as well, but I suck at math)

I love the App and iTunes store being at my finger tips as well.

  • The only thing that gets on my nerves right now is I could be playing a game and recieve a call. ^_^

I love it. I'm not trying to be snobbish or w/e I just really like it, and my iPhone is passed around my friends when we need to look "stupid stuff" lol

I'm happy. Thanks for asking. I really got the iPhone b/c I was tired of keep up with my cell phone and ipod nano all the time.

  • Also, I don't like the fact that it isn't insured by AT&T, so investing in a durable case is something to consider.

  • I LOVE VERIZON!!!!

  • This commercial rocks! It's like Family Guy for Verizon - full of references,

  • get your own theme song, verizon.

  • this is one of the worst commercials i have ever seen

  • What the heck are they saying in the third reference "Get your ______ on much better"? It sounds like porridge or orange or something

  • I think it's "Ditch your boring job much better."

  • Is it just me, or did they also manage to somehow spoof the "I'm on a horse" from Old Spice as well towards the end? How far apart was this commercial made from that one, I wonder.

  • @ravriem That's what it made me think of right away, too.

  • I was going to switch off of Verizon to MetroNet. I saw this commerical, and I am staying with Verizon.

I am living in commerical heaven with this one!

  • I'm Ricky Bobby, and if you don't chew Big Red, then **** you.

  • shouldve been a super bowl commercial!!!!

  • marketing genius. awesome.

  • I saw this first on The Daily Show's website and had to find it on YouTube because of its surreal awesomeness. I'm not a Verizon fan (actually a Cingular user still with AT&T because I'm lazy), but I can recognize superior ad work when I see it. (The way the ad subtly mocked the very people they were pitching to was IMO the master stroke, above and beyond the brilliant parody.) This commercial absolutely deserves an ADDY!

  • If the iPhone is the worlds sexiest woman, AT&T is the STD you kinda know she has, but that youre too horny to think clearly about.

  • Hey that's Paul McGillion from Stargate Atlantis as the sculptor.

  • No, it's David Nykl, who played Dr. Zelenka on SGA.

  • i dont care for verizon that much but i LOVE this commerecial!! :) lol

  • Brilliant Verizon. Simply brilliant!

Capitalism at its best. I'm not a subscriber but I prefer you over that company with the "blues" ;) Especially after the news I heard today about Apple suing Htc? Low blow to take an indirect shot at Google. Android rules!

  • Haha, I love this commercial - just like going back to the 80s!

  • Can anyone else tell....? It seems like the singers for this one sound like the ones from the original ad.

Dunno if VZ has permission for this, but it's good synergy for both. I'd gander most people would either want to get a Verizon phone and/or buy Big Red gum after seeing this commercial.

  • Brilliant commercial. I'm an 80's kid so I recognized it right away.

  • How'bout the way it ends with the phone suspended in the same position as BIG RED gum was in the original commercials?

  • I can't stand Verizon or AT&T but this commercial is SUPER Clever! Good Job!

  • hilarious...

  • never thought id say this but this commercial is fucking awesome.

  • I love this, reminds me how great, and cheerful the commercials were that I grew up with in the 80's... You don't get that anymore... pleasantly nostalgic...

  • You've got to see this video:

Dog Cheers up Mentally challenged Man

    It's weird and funny. lol

  • ... And I thought their DeBeers spoofs were bad.

  • What a great commercial.

  • The memories abound!

  • HaHaHa I knew that was him!!!! David Nykl is awesome!!!!

  • why is this ad not on tv good shit

  • One of the greatest commercials ever! Kudos Verizon ... you are the best!

  • BEST VZW ad ever.

  • This commercial is awesome! I own an iPhone but I've got a soft spot for these great jingles. Hope to see the ad on TV someday!

  • As one who works for one of Verizon's main competitors, I have to tip my hat to them, this was brilliant. It makes me smile everytime I watch it.

  • Who's the hot blonde?

  • aw, i think we're all nostalgic for the 80s/90s... esp if you grew up then! ahh classic jingles... smart way to reuse em. those optimum triple play crappy-ass theme songs makes me want to shoot myself and rip out my ears. i really miss those goldfish commercials too... and the mentos commercials :X

  • "download stupid stuff much better..." XD

  • whos the hottie in the red dress

  • Did Verizon get permission from Wrigley's to use the same music, key, and tempo as their Big Red commercials from the 80s and 90s for their phone commercials?

  • @BigBlueBeast no one gives a shit...

  • No, of course they didn't. Verizon likes being sued for trademark and copyright infringement.

  • Technically speaking, I think they're safe on the grounds of parody. I'm sure the legal team of a big company like Verizon would have stopped them from making this commercial were that not the case.

  • @OnlyToComment I bet they just bought the jingle. When was the last time you saw big red advertised?

  • @zht09 I see it more as a tip of the hat to Big Red, not really taunting. The question is, is it just an easy way to play off the nostalgia of older viewers who actually remember when the original Big Red ads were on? Personally, I think it's very tongue-in-cheek.

  • It's good to see David Nykl in something new.

  • DAVID NYKL

    as

    Dr. Verizon

  • Saw this on Hulu & came to find it here. Love it! That's genius and reminds me of the old Big Red ads. Verizon has better service than AT&T (it's true, read up about it, AT&T has no leg to stand on).

  • This has got to be the most shameless commercial in history. To use the complete Big Red gum jingle pretending it's original. Sure Verizon bought the rights legally, but morally?

  • I want this as a ringtone on my iPhone!

  • I actually searched 4 this on yoo toobe after seeing it on holoo. Brrrrilliant.

  • lol im an AT&T-er but dam lol this was friggin funny xD i wonder what AT&T will combat with.. btw these two companies by doing this just made me a big fan of both rofl

  • double mint gum?

  • LMAO!!!!

  • Genius.

  • Absolutely great. They beat up AT&T, who fights back pretty well, then they hit em with this. Let's see you counter something like this. $50 bucks says if AT&T counters with a doublemint parody, Verizon will finish them off by hiring Owen Wilson.

  • That's a fun blast fom the past!

  • wow! I am the only one who absolutely HATES this commercial? It makes my angry, and like Verizon less.

  • You should probably leave AT&T then lol

  • Wow, is there a commercial of the year award? Because this commercial deserves one. This is the only video advertisement that I was ever happy to see.

  • This commercial makes me so happy I'm playing for the right team.

  • I remember BIG RED gum

  • lol i love this!!!

  • Marketing brilliance. I love the retro 90's reference!

  • Love this:)

  • download stupid stuff xD

  • I know that part made me laugh for like four minutes, it was hilarious!

  • more commercials like this please

  • "Email friends and family better,

Download stupid stuff much better" hahaha

  • better yet.. you'll watch youtube on a horse!

  • this is awesome!!! i used to love big red commercials.

  • As a child of the 90s who loves commercial nostalgia, this makes me way happier than it should.

  • Can you say "CLIO award"?

  • McCann Erickson is the brilliant mind who came up with these latest "Big Red" Chewing Gum and "Da Beers" Diamond pummeling campaigns of AT&T and you can BET your ASS Verizon shelled out a $#!+ load of cash to the REAL companies just to have the rights to do these parodies. Money WELL spent! EPIC POWNED! Fucking Brilliant! LMFAO! They even got the original Tuba Guy to play the bellhop in the hotel and then the kid camping with the BIG RED shirt on, Not even Luke Wilson can deal with this, LMFAO!

  • LOL!!!!! I like this commercial! Hhahaha! I guess because it's a copy of the classic big red commercials. LOL! It's cute that was a good idea they come up with. Hhahah! LOL!@ "watch youtube on a horse" and "download stupid stuff much better" LOL! :D

  • I forgot how insanely memorable that corny jingle is. The last time I saw one of those Big Red commercials was probably around 95 when I was ten yet after only watching this commercial/parody once I immediately remembered the originals lyrics.

  • Yes me too! LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • LMAO!!!

  • I don't know why bu,t I frikken LOVE this commercial. I really only chew Big Red , I'm very nostalgic, and I like when ads make you sing jingles throughout the day

  • Brilliant.

  • OK, I don't like owning cell phones myself, but this was just classy and skilled.

Also, YouTube on a horse? Really?

  • Verizon you have my heart with this! Who ever thought up this idea for the commercial, give him/her a fucking raise.

  • Yeah I agree, now this was a good idea! LOL!

  • i loooooved big red! and the guy on the horse is so cute! ;) that looks like vancouver too - north shore mountains? maybe? verizon is american tho. maybe not! LOL :)

  • has anyone watched this on a horse yet? Its a completely different experience...LOL
