I beat Streets of Rage 3 on the genesis back in the day. In order to win, I played single player on Normal, and once I ran out of lives as Player 1, I pressed Start on my Player 2 controller - and kept the game going until the end. Damn hard game, but I loved every second of it.

In the American version, this is the HARDEST boss I have EVER seen. I have attempted to beat him numerous times on normal mode "Since you can't beat the game on easy" and the FRICKING time limit is FAR too strict! I can't even take out half his health before the time is up! it's impossible!

I played through all three streets of rage games as a kid with one of my friends and I have to say SoR3 was my favorite. The only reasons for this was that It had multiple endings and Shiva was a playable character. My only complaint was that it was way hard in the later levels especially if you were going for the good ending. After playing through it again on an emulator I can't believe we actually got to Neo X let alone beat him.

I just finished SOR3 over the holiday break. I wasn't a fan. The game loses its fun factor after level 3 and it became a marathon getting through the entire game. I had to finish it though since I was a big fan of 1 and 2 for the sega! (also when I got to Robot Y on normal mode he had X4 life bars . . . why's it only X2.2 here?)

I've noticed I've been getting a lot of off comments from people about the version I'm playing. Its the Japanese version, and it is indeed, MUCH easier than SOR3, which I've also played and beaten, and its indeed hard.

However, your comment basically describes why I prefer the Japanese version. SOR3 is hard to the point that its not only a challenge (which is normally fine) but its also more of a chore. I personally didn't enjoy it.

@ChoujinStrife Unfortunately, that was because of the rental market. There is no rental market in Japan so they had no reason to make things overly difficult. In the US, many imported games were made more difficult so they can't be blown through in a weekend after renting it. (After all, some, if not most, people wouldn't buy a game after they have already have beaten it.)

Thanks to the Internet though, we can play these games on their true original difficulty.

Having to fight my way through average level designs, with off, beeping, loud and rough music got old really quickly. With Bare Knuckle 3, I can get a little bit of a challenge, while enjoying the levels enough, before they overstay their welcome.

I also prefer the classic color schemes for the characters more, and I get to experience everything in the game. (Ash boss fight, "Blitz" attack upgrades, uncensored enemies, and such)

@phoenixicarus cause this is the japanese version(bk3) of the game though it was more well done and had extra stuff then sor3 it was much easier, hard mode sor3 is litterally almost impossible to finish, its rather strange cause the bk3 has very hard mode which is the max difficulty setting u can put it on and hard mode is the max difficulty setting on sor3 and yet the hard mode on sor3 is like 8000 times harder than very hard bk3.

When they made the US version, they gave this boss 7 lives in Hard but kept the time limit the same. If you try to do that "keep flying-kicking the boss as it charges at you" routine, then Zan and Axel's flying attacks don't lose it enough energy to kill it in time. Sega of America didn't even think it through properly, probably never even play-tested the US version.

I always thought Nintendo's tactics were extremely cowardly; waiting to see what rivals would come up with, copying the technology, upgrading it and then marketing it as "better."
