  • best physics project ever :P ty bro

  • como se llama el iman

  • cuanto dura esto girando¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • fucking magnets - how do they work?

  • LOL ... homo *chuckels*

  • ¿puede ser cualquier cable?

    ¿puede ser cualquier imán?

    por favor respondame¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • would the wire get hot?

and does the wire have to be copper?

    Please Respond!!!

  • @ZenithRadProductions Yes the wire gets warm; no it does not need to be copper but copper works best.

  • thanks to this video now i can give my hamster a break :D

  • OOOOOEEEEEEEEIIIII !!!!! perfect balance is THE KEY !!!

  • Drop it in water

  • does it run down your battery?

  • Will it drain battery juice?

  • Pretty cool, but it drains your battery in under a minute and provides no torque whatsoever.

  • I was expecting it to explode by 1:21...

  • @TriplePsiRJ that would have been damn cool

  • fantastic

  • How long would this last... full battery to dead...

Hell, you could use this as an odd desk deco

  • I MEANT MAGNETS!!!

  • @psand1120 Got them at Makers Faire back when I made the video. You got a 5 inch stack of them for free so I nabbed a whole bunch.

  • WHERE DO U GET THOSE BATTERIES??????

  • what is the theory , if you connect the circuit like that , the voltage will be shorted , and the current throught the wire will be rather high

  • @hgeof nope, it's basic electromagnetism. When a current moves through a magnetic field (made by the magnet) then it is deflected (pushed in a certain direction). The battery is shorted alright, but that doesn't cause the motion. When the electons move through the wire they are deflected in a certain direction. Since the wire is twisted then the deflection causes the wire to move in a circle (similar to if you spun a rock on a string).

  • @hgeof The direction of the deflection is defined by the 'left hand (or right hand) rule for vectors. The magnetic field has vector and so does the direction of motion of the electrons.

Force = (charge x velocity ) 'cross' magnetic field

    F=qv X b

  • does it matter if you use a different type of bigger magnet

  • @cliftonskaters It sure does! i explained to hgeof (above) the theory. So if you look at the formula F=qv X b , b stands for the magnetic field strength. If you have a stronger field you have stronger deflection and movement of the wire. Check out a video on my channel 'the left hand rule for vectors' it should explain it better!

  • I built one like yours but did a slight mod on it. See how yours will let the copper wire spin on the neg side and it sometimes spin out and slow down? Do this, take a punch and lightly punch the center on neg side until it is shaped like a v or funnel. Now take and grind the copper wire that sits on neg side to a fine point.Add a drop of oil in the v and put the copper wire back on and let it go.Without the drifting of the wire it spins fast as hell.

  • 5 people dont know what a motor is

  • Comment removed

  • that could like make a helicopter fly lol

  • A homopole now i've seen everything

  • k materiales c necesitan?

  • k c necesita para el experimento

    osea los materiales

  • @jainebri all you need are neodymium magnets and copper wire. It might or might not work, electrons can be a bitch

  • Damn it! How do you get it to spin like this! Mine only goes up to 4550 rpm :(

  • i setup just like urs but my wire just heats up doesnt spin what am i doing wrong?

  • I tried and i did everything you did, but i stil cant get it to work.

  • now try that with sunny D

  • heheh HOMO :D

  • U jelly. energy companies?

  • Can it shock you? Lools

  • Hi. I'm engineer, but I tried to build this and It does not work. Does it need a special material???

  • @jainebri The wire must be a metal (for conduction) and the magnets must be pretty strong. Perhaps yours doesn't work because the magnet is too weak or the battery is too weak. Check out my video on it, it may help

  • does it stop eventually or is it perpetual??

  • @mArT1n1112 It would stop when the battery runs out. Perpetual motion violates the laws of thermodynamics.

  • @mArT1n1112 perpetual motion is actually still a thery but even if it was proven no because this runs on the power of the battery to create an electromagnetic feild

  • does it waste the charge of the battery or do the electrons flow throughout the copper wire forever

  • do the wires have to touch the magnets???

  • fricken. epic.

  • why does it spin?

  • @strass59 A current moving in a magnetic field will be pushed in a certain direction. Since the wire is twisted, the direction of push is in a circle!

  • @youspinmerightrounds good to know! thanks!

  • haha he said homo :d

  • @XXXSuperFlyXXX5 you need to use copper wire that will not atract to the magnet

  • ITS GOING TO GO BACK IN TIME!

  • Holy shit if it goes anyfaster it'll time travel,

I smell a time paradox about to happen

    OH SHI...

  • >i made in 5 hours

    fixed

  • no it doesnt matter what magnet its jsut the shape and sie of the neodemium magnet he/she wants

  • Yours goes fast!

  • Hello, I wanna know what is a Neodymium magnets please and why it does'nt work with normal magnets :) Ty

  • @ptitdal neodimium are very very strong for there size

  • Heh heh....homo

  • @Kabotofly

    xD

  • can i use neodinium magnets???

  • mine doesn't work does it need to be the same shape of magnet please help thanks

  • is that magnet below the batery or?

  • does it matter what type of magnets you use? because l have some ceramic block magnets, will it still work?

  • It will work but will be higher resistance

  • Where'd you get thick wire like that

  • It is just 12awg

  • exist one moments

    sincronismo?

  • Brilliant!

  • doesn't the wire get super hot.

  • It gets toasty due to current flow.

  • is that copper wire

  • Yes

  • @HaloArchive funciona con imanes normales???

  • si, trabajos con imanes normal. Redondo deben ser aunque.

  • does it work with normal magnets???

  • no you have to have a neodymium magnet

  • where can u get a neodymium magnet

  • Everywhere. Hardware Stores, Online, Trade Shows. Etc...

  • Comment removed

  • i ask them for a neodymium magnet they say they dont have any

  • how do you bend the copper

  • By Hand.

  • With your hand, noob.

  • do u need the battirys on the bottom

  • those are magnets, and yes you need them.

  • really amazing...

  • what makes it go faster ?

  • @sjmunoz balance??

  • to heavy to fly

  • Coolio

  • This might reduce the co2 in our cars. *sarcasm*

  • instead of a 1.5V use a A23 12V! lets see how fast it spins then!

  • @mustard286 about tims as fast! :D

and 8 imes as hot i guess....

  • how did u get ur copper wire to bed like that...and can we use any type of copper wire

  • i wonder what would happen if u attached small blades to the top and make it like a helicopter

    lol

  • It wouldnt fly and, i wouldnt touch it either :)

  • nothing

  • Haha, at 0:53 the motor went on drugs and decided to go in overdrive!

  • hahaha yea wonder why?

  • Yeah..the copper wire probably received a "Roger...Ready for takeoff" signal from the 3 little cute neodymium magnets which in turn told the battery: "All right dude, give the copper wire all you've got!"

  • how high is the rpm?

  • do you know how this works?

  • Lorentz force. The electrons in the wire are moving through a magnetic field. The electrons feel a force and this moves the wire. Hope this helps.

  • not really, cose you need the battery, and the battery needs to be charged.

you could i guess you this thing to recharge the battery aswell, but the first battery would have to be charged otherwise, so its not rly free...

  • haha

  • except u have to buy batteries..

  • very good

  • brilliant!

  • put a propeller on the end of the wire and put it on a toy plane

  • can we use this to power cars?

  • on a much larger scale

  • if we could i think we would be slightly less polluted at this point

  • i wonder what the avg rpm that is

  • You spin me round round baby right round, like a record baby round round round round Yay !!!!

Fantastiiic !!!!! WELL DONE SONIC AND YOUU DROP DE COIIIN DROP THE STUPID COIIIN

  • i has know that song ^_^

  • @AngelKnight56:

    complet moron?

its called electric motor, not perpetual motion...

Nice work, u made all by hand in 5 min, right? but works fine. try to make it a bit more symetric so it would run smoother

  • # You spin me right round baby right round

  • does the battery run out ?

  • i have no idea but my guess is no..

because it looks like it goes right back in and theres no place for it to escape

    but the battery probably overheats

  • Then try it with no battery lol!

Chances are it will "magically" stop working ;)

Its a cool little trick to show people though

  • Theoretically, no. Physically, yes. This is because ht ebattery is using its energy to create a current which shorts the battery in turn, overheating it so, the energy is being converted from electrical to heat.

  • It does. Battery's energy is converted to mechanical and most of it dissipated through heat.

  • what type of wire should I use?

  • I used a piece of stripped 12 AWG house wire :)

  • K&Jmagnetics

  • where can you get the magnet from? Home Depot? Home HArdware? where?

  • I actually got mine as a fun magnet pack form Makers Faire :)

  • How much current does this motor drain? It seems like it shortens the battery.

Also is there a tutorial somewhere explaining why this works and how it works?

  • where i go there is DURACELL lol XD

  • Maybe i'll use Energizer next time o.O

  • whats at the bottom, batteries or magentts. if its magnets is there any local stores i can buy them from?

  • Those are magnets... you can probably get the at radio shack, or you can go to the dollar store and buy some cheap fridge magnets and take the magenets out of those... Hope this helps...

    -Don

  • it runs great:D

  • We can harness that energy and power the whole world!

  • Haha, from a machine that uses pre charged energy? That would be quite a waste now wouldnt it?

  • Don't try to corner me with logic! I'm a dreamer mannn!

  • Haha, okay :) Sorry to sink your boat!

  • Does it have to be a particular magnet?

  • No but, I use the rare earth magnets

  • does the copper wire have to touch the magnet at the bottom

  • Yes

  • does it have to be a charged (new) battery??

  • Yes

  • how long does it spin?

    without a stop

  • could you use a metal coat hanger

  • You could but, it would not work as well as if it were copper due to the fact that

    1. Its coated in epoxy/non-crosive material

    2. Copper is a better conductor.

However. If you were to sand the coat hanger until you get that nasty varnish off, it may work. You could find out :)

  • where can i buy this copper wire u use?

  • It is Copper. You can buy a like 1 ft section from a hardware store.

  • any special hardware store you would recommend me... I used very thin copper wire and it didn't spin much...

  • its just a piece of 10 gauge copper wire. Any hardware store should carry bulk copper wire

  • what kind of wire is that? copper?

  • pls let me know do you recharge the battary this way ????????????????

  • you dont

  • ... no explosion. brilliance.

  • i tried to make one but it only lasted 10 secs :[
