  • SOOO BADASSSSS

  • This nailed the Warhammer tone, really well. What mythic has built is good, but the pure grim atmosphere permeating this trailer, and the game, is true Warhammer and that is what Mythics game lacks above all else.

  • This is Warhammer to me, what Mythic made was WoW.

  • @slannmage google "climax warhamer" and look for the massivly article on it you will change your mind

  • 109 people tried to control the winds of Chaos and failed.

  • most epic voice ever

  • What were those creepy dudes at the end

  • @xXxDarkAdeptusxXx

    Plaguebearers, lesser daemons of Nurgle.

  • @freakiq I think he was talking about the Skaven?

  • @xXxDarkAdeptusxXx

The big one is a great unclean one

smaller ones with swards are plague bearers

the very small ones are nurglings

The main voice is for grand father nurgle lord of plague and decay.

  • wait. were they going to have it where you can follow Nurgle? because I really hate following Tzeentch in Mythic's game.

  • @Scabieathrax no actually in this version there was no chaos or ork players. You could be human, elf, halfling, dwarfs or ogres. This was more of a PVE based game.

  • I guess the game never reached climax.

  • This is what WAR should have been, dark, nihilistic and creepy.

  • The people creating games fail day by day.

Thats what should have been released instead of the damn cartoon trash we have now.

  • A shame what Mythic made with the strong WH Licence... Comic- Warhammer, with no depth, no story, no Wh atmosphere, no fun to play... SHAME ON YOU MYTHIC!!!

This old Climax trailer looks a way better than mythics stuff....

  • I FEEL YOU!

    yuck! really! what the hell!

  • "and the terror that lies in wait to punish your ignorance" - It would be great to have that voice.

  • that father nurgle DOES sound awesome indeed ;o very epic

  • Jeez, dad, FINE. I'll put the sword away and go to sorcery school. HAPPY NOW?

  • Wow this is a lot darker indeed, but then people would've said 'its to colourless(darkfall online like) all that.

I really like Warhammer online now (and in the past, i've been playing since the start)

  • This is a lot darker themed than the game we got. Wish it was that dark.

  • @kozas0 except this verison was PVE only no PVP.

  • @jimyjones1985 On the contrary, this game was supposed to have many and varied professions (no sides specifically) with full PvP to support it. So players would have been able to play as a Chaos worshiper or a necromancer, but they would be enemies with witch hunters. They were actually trying to make a relatively authentic Warhammer PC game that seemed to borrow a lot from the PnP RPG.

I wish this company would have been left to make their game. Mythic's version is just so much shit.

  • @BigMikeMcBastard incorrect go google it. Each server was only going to have a few thousand people. Google "climax warhammer" and look for the aritcle on Massivly. It sates the races were Humans, Elves, Dwarfs, Halflings and Ogres. And only 4 classes. Warrior, Academic, Rogue and Adventurer.

    NO CHAOS OR ORKS

  • this is sooo much better then mythics this one is soo dark and cool

  • This would have been much better than Mythic's version. I curse Games Workshop for pulling the funding out from under Climax.

  • @WizzyWarlock No that didn't happen. Mythic had nothing to do with this game losing funding. Go to gamespot and look up the 3 game play videos they have of this game and you will change your mind. It looked absolutely horrible.

First off the game was PVE only you could only be Elves, Humans, Ogres, Dwarves or Halflings. Thats right Halflings. Thats right No chaos or greenskins playable.

  • First of all, thank you "freakiq" for uploading this trailer, many people think of this trailer as something special.

Sorry if i don't have correct grammar, my english isn't perfect...

This trailer is awesooome, i remeber it from 2004, i have been really positively surprised by things they have planned to put in the game. To bad for Climax and this game. Text, voice and narration is brutal!! Also, have they been using some bump-mapping for characters?? Really progressive for 2004 and MMORPG!

  • awesome voice, awesome text.

  • I wish skaven were in the game then I might buy it

  • so... after years of hating on WoW i'm giving it another try (my 1st was just up to level 10 or so which was like 4 years agi and i hated the cartoonish look) but i digress...

i'm now wondering if it's worth it to go back to WAR (stopped at 28 right before BW ,KOTB. and Choppa was implemented, i got so damn bored of that one place where you grab the skull and SP with BWs raping you) i've played AC, DAOC, GW, D&D before if that factor helps with an answer.

  • could of do with out subtitles

  • @bannanaboy8

You can remove them by turning off annotations.

  • Wow,this looks like it would have been pure shit

EA is REALLY lucky myhtic decided to step in

  • @adventururer Graphicly - sure,if you look at dates, how long ago they started to craft this game, than sure, graphics developed a lot. But the whole rest would be better I guess, as the game was suppose to stick to the core of RPG, that is keeping climate among realms, making adventure sessions, with GM's leading stories for player groups and interacting with world, working as some crucial NPC's. It was suppose to be a Role Playing game, not a hack and slash current WH online is :/

  • Lol its the old black orc from the old how to paint citadel miniatures which came with the caption "courtesy of Warhammer Online" under it.

  • Interesting...

Skavens looks great (and voice is daemonicly adorable, for sure), what a pity, it's never been released.

  • Hey wait a minute, that sounds a bit like Tony Jay

  • I love that voice. :3

  • We wanted to use Andy but he was too expensive. Can't remember the name of the voiceover artist - but there was quite a bit of messing about in the studio with his voice to get it to sound right.

As for the subtitles, you got it spot on;-) "Sword over scroll" was meant to communicate the different paths in the game you could choose.

You wouldn't believe how little footage we had to work with. Most of it was recorded on the fly at Climax. If you're interested, check my site out under SEGA;-)

  • OMG! This brings back memories. I made the trailer 6 years ago for SEGA. Funny to see it here. It's amazing that someone spent the time typing up the voice over - bet it took less time than it took me to write it;-)

I also created a press campaign to go with the trailer and the concept of "It's No Fantasy'. All looks a bit outdated now - but it was fun to make ;-)

  • @mazza66

You did a great job with the trailer, especially since there was so little usable footage available.

Some sentences were extremely hard to hear, still not sure about the "sword over scroll" part.

By the way, do you know who the voice actor for the narrator/daemon is?

Heard rumours that it's Andy Serkis but I'm not sure.

  • @freakiq with the sword over scroll part hes basicly saying you will suffer for fighting rather than having a peaceful job and just letting them take over

  • @mazza66 Which company did you work for?

  • @d1ggah Hi there. I was at a London agency called Mercier Gray. Sadly it went into liquidation in 2004, as did many small agencies at the time ;-(

  • @mazza66 I think I remember you guys coming into the office and taking over our PCs to film it. Fun days. Pity it died.

  • @d1ggah LOL - small world isn't it ;-) I remember sitting through a 3 hour presentation by your guys at Climax and then a whole afternoon of recording 'on-the-fly' material as one of your guys manoeuvred characters on screen. (The game was in its early development and SEGA wanted to create some buzz - hence the need to create the film for E3) Don't know why SEGA decided to ditch their support - I think another title came along that was ready to go. Anyway, good to hear from you.

  • This would have been cooler if Khorne had voiced it. He would have focused on more combat and weapons, which get me hooked on games more. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!!!!

  • wow . its been 2 months looking for this vedio , i heared this guy talking on another vedio and i was looking for the original source , thnx.

  • All-time favorite trailer. Period.

  • The game is not dying, is it?

I bought it quite some time ago, but I stopped playing, thinking that it would die before I could accomplish anything. If it is still going, perhaps I could get to playing it again.

  • @AnomalyINC

Subscriptions seem to be on the rise again after they implemented the endless trial.

  • @AnomalyINC i think theres only 30,000 people playing but theres like 5 realms i love this game i don't see why others don't like all they need to do it update the graphics some which i think they did.

  • @AnomalyINC play. iron rock server. shits fun

    --mushrooms

  • The old Warhammer online had so much more atmosphere. This would have been awesome.

  • This was cool but i'm glad they scrapped it. This is a little too dark and creepy, and the graphics weren't that great.

  • sends a shiver down my neck. AWSEOME!

  • Wow. Now that was a good trailer. Had more of the races in it other then just Empire, Chaos, Dwarves, High Elves, Dark Elves and Orcs. I saw Skaven, Vampire Counts, and Beast Men there. And that ending with Plague Bearers and the Great Unclean One was awesome. I would just like to point out though that it wasn't Nurgle, but his Greater Demon. The Greater Demons of Chaos are reprisentations to the Chaos God, Nurgle, Tzeantch, Slaanesh and Khorne.

  • holy shit.......i want this game rly badly now lol xD

  • Oh what would i love this version of Warhammer, dark, sinister, fearfull..fufuufufu Mythic.

  • Mythic officially gave up on WAR as a worthwhile project around November, when they stopped making their podcasts, but unofficially gave up long before that when Paul Barnett and Jeff Hickman stopped being IN the podcasts, which was just after launch since the revolutionary concepts they had for it were only a fraction-implemented and beset by fundamental problems in the game's setup like instanced city seiges and god-tier guards with guns that 1-shot you every time you take the fight to them :(

  • umm they still make the podcasts

  • @voldemort2123

There's also been an expansion announced since Bioware took over Mythic.

  • bioware didn't take over mythic but bioware and EA merged so they can share resources now, imo a good thing

  • @voldemort2123

    I stand corrected.

    A good thing indeed, though.

  • That was one of the coolest trailers I've ever seen. Very creepy!

  • realy realy like the voice and it is creepy

  • That's surprisingly creepy.

  • @ craniifer

its not a suprise that a warhammer trailer is creepy, WAR should be creepy like that many fans of tabletop warhammer was utterly dissapointed when they found out that WAR will become agame like the one it is, we wanted it to be as dark as it could because the atmosphere of the warhammer world is dark as possible just like here in this trailer

as for the game i dont think it would be a good MMORPG but i certainly want to see this game as a single player PRG!!!

  • WAR is ok, but I also wish it was darker.

It's fun to play but there isn't really anything unique about it other than the public quests. As for open pvp (or rvr as it's called in WAR) a lot of other mmorpgs have it, it's just called something else (contested territory in WoW is almost the same, minus the control points).

  • man you can not compare this to wow. wow is good in what it was made for, killing npcs. war is all about killing enemy players. confilct between factions work. players care about other players, guilds even enemy. In wow you care oly for your guildies. the difference is that the game is all about it, guilds fighting against each other every day. wow is as far from war as it is milk from beer. war is about cooperation, alliances. wow is about to be the allmighty hero of all

  • That was Papa Nurgle's voice? I thought he loved mortals. Enough to share all his wonderful plagues with them.

  • thats how the game should have looked.. WAR online is just another WoW

  • This looks a lot like a mix of Lord of The Rings, Diablo and Oblivion.

  • This text must talking any chosen :p

  • This text making any sense not :p

  • Wait so who made up the warhammer sereise and are all the warhammer things tied together??

  • Warhammer is a tabletop game played with armies consisting of Plastic/Tin figurines about 20mm high. It's owned by Games workshop and no, the games (mark of chaos/warhammer online) are not tied together, they are ''what if'' scenarios in thie world Games workshop created.

  • i play WAR and would buy it today if it had better graphics and if WAR didnt existed, looks pretty cool

  • bad Graphics but then again it was ages ago...Right?

  • it was indeed a long time ago and a different developer

  • extremely early development stage to I suppose

  • yeah this version of Warhammer was being made by climax and never got out of the Alpha stages. It was also made back in 2003-2004

  • WOW am I happy mythic picked this up.

  • the characters warriors can block spells like wow?

  • yes

  • despite the doofy looking models this is a really sweet trailer

  • haha 1:38-1:41 he's like "Say what!?"

  • RAISE KHORNE!

  • Terrifying AND humorous. Creepy...

  • Praise the father of pestilence!

This is not shitty men... its old, not shitty and its not a f*** everquest.

  • This trailer looks like Everquest...

  • wth cant you ppl read the description?

  • I was thinking of buying this game. I was wondering is it really good? Like I've never played this kind of RPG before, or an online RPG that is this massive. The best RPG's I've played would have to be Fable II and Oblivion but is this worth the buy? And is it free playing online?

  • this made the game look HORRIBLE! but it is good

  • hey i was goin out to buy warhammer aow and i was wondering what the best kind of char is... so if someone could just comment back and let me know with out being a smart ass i would appretiate it

  • there is not one best type of character. The characters are pretty well balanced. I suggest trying a few of the different classes since they all play differently.

  • Omg evry body join my guild !!!

    HAHAHA Just kidding

i personaly think that warhammer is better than wow the warhammer universe is just way bigger and has more stuff to put into the game and there will be a ton of adons so cant wait for it :)

  • Nurgle chaos god of plauge :)Nurgle and Khorne is probably the most known of the chaos gods rather have one of them than tzchepes or what the raven gods name is

  • Tzeentch, and his the a raven! he is more like a Ibis!

  • This wass the first warhammer online but they didnt finish thad game and years later there now is Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning!!!

  • Grampa Nurgle, would you read me a bedtime story?

  • lame

  • Cool trailer.

  • LOL! 1:10...the dwarf, so random.

  • Lawl, that aint Warhammer online, thats Warhammer Mark of chaos.

  • nope! That´s was Warhammer Online when it should have been developed by Climax.

  • dude they had scaven and udead in that, wish i could have played one of them classses. but yea the goblins looked kinda emo

  • The voiceover was done by Andy Serkis (Gollum, from Lord of the Rings)... Only they were never allowed to publicise that fact because of legal constraints with the Games Workshop LOTR license...

  • Damn you are good... i don't know this.

  • Gollum?! AS NURGLE?!

  • Theres more of a warhammer feeling, but the graphics are terrible.

  • Better than World of Warcraft. But the animation is very...very shitty

  • I could only say this: "This far more Warhammer then WAR: Age of Reckoning!" Allt the old Warhammer atmosphere and stuff is in this one! Not in Age of Reckoning!

  • goes to show how important voice work and music is to the final product. Hell it almost made that game look good

  • This video make the game look shitty. But thanks to mythic its a really good game :D

  • lol shitty old trailer...awesome new game

  • I think the old trailer has more Warhammer feeling than the trailers from Mythic.

  • ya seems more... dark than the final version, sorta a diobloish feel...but much more warhammer

  • congratz! Now i'm not the only one saying that this is far more Warhammer then Mythic´s "attempt".

  • thank god mythic showed up. This version is totally goth/emo and there would be no excitment

  • What an ignorant twat.

  • Congratz smartass! Warhammer is Gothic Fantasy!! Mythic totaly thrashed Warhammer online!

  • omg thats terrible compaired to what it is now, and yes, i did say omg

  • Well, this is from quite a while ago.

  • This version of Warhammer online you could only play the good races as the game was mainly PvE. The Bad guys were spreading across the land dynamically conquering and building bases. It was up to the players to fight back or perish. Server resets were part of the game design as it was inevitable that players would lose eventually and the evil would rule the entire land. Skaven were meant to be played by the Devs occasionally to launch major plot arcs.

It was supposed to be a "sandbox" game.

  • In other words.... AWESOME! but then Mythic took the licsence for Warhammer Online and thrashed it.. :(

  • I love grandpa's Nurgle voice :)

  • @necrophag6 if only they made the game for chaos that lests you choose your path :(

  • thank goodness mythic took over. the current one's art is much better and animation too.

  • damn it looks better than warhammer online now o.O

  • that trailers sucks, but i think it was done by an amateur so, its pretty good for an amateur's work. but ummmmmmmmmm i still think its sucked sorry.

  • Oh, by the way, you made a slight mistake in the description. It's Grandfather Nurgle, not Father Nurgle.

Isn't it ironic that the current WAR is all about Tzeentch, Nurgle's arch-enemy?

  • Actually according to the 6th edition Hordes of Chaos book he is referred to both as father and grandfather Nurgle as are his greater daemons.

  • I've always been fond of Nurgle subsequent to adoption of the Grandfather term. He is supposedly very kind to his followers, caring for them like a loving grandfather(Hence the name). Plaguebearers are also supposed have something of a demonic six-year-old mind. Example:

"Buboes, phlegm, blood and guts! Boils, bogeys, rot and pus! Blisters, fevers, weeping sores! From your wounds the fester pours"

    -A Plaguebearer Battle Chant-

  • I love the part about plaguebearers that they are walking around trying to count things and find order amongst the chaos, just like in a fever dream where you find you have to do something in order to find peace.

Also I agree about Nurgle being kind to his followers, he feels like the kind fat grampa who hugs his grandkids andfgives them sweets, or in this case; boils. It also makes him feel more morbid than if he were to be sad and angsty.

  • @freakiq: Definitly a competent and convincing answer. Especially that point about fate. You´ve won^^ Only: then I don´t understand the appearance of none-Nurgle villains. Better, I don´t think too much about it.

  • Exactly! I got that armybook!

  • look so scary

  • this game looks nothing like wat the warhammer world is supposed to. glad mythic took it over

  • Ok?! I haven't seen the old Warhammer Fantasy Battles 4th, 5th and 6th edition right?! Well then you have missed something, pal!

  • This is awesome! While I don't think it would be nearly as fun as WAR, the vid is thrilling.

I don't feel the voice is either Tzeentch or Nurgle, (Or at least should be), but Anrchaon, Lord of the End Times, The Everchosen.

  • It´s nurgle!

  • awsome!!!i was curious as to who it was. the repusive nature made me think nurgal but when he talked about complexity i thought Zeentch.

  • @Orklord90

    hahahahahah

  • Looks shitty compared to the new video :P

  • Furthermore, Im asking myself, how you manage to establish "decay and desease" as central aspects of that vid.

All right, there are demons of Nurgle, undead, Skaven, but also orcs, giants, a grot, a bestigor or something like that and a demon of Khorne. None of them is anyhow connected to Nurgle. Yet, tzeentch manipulates them all.

    Looking forward for an answer!

    greetz

  • Good point, blahblah1748. One actually doesnt see Nurgle in this Vid only his greater Demon and smaller ones connected to him. I think it´s Tzenntch. Least by the fact, that he was chosen in the WAR online Version now. More, because of several quotes

    1.) that wrong-chosen-career part

"sword over scroll" => Sorcery = Tzeentch

2.) "Thinking yourself free ... clever"

=> Manipulation, intrigues, people THINK to make decisions, but actually its him leading them. Thats Tzeenchs way again.

  • Tzeentch voice is described as a cackling laughter with a hint of malice (in the realms of chaos books).

The voice in the video on the other hand is deep and booming while still lacking the rage for it to be from Khorne.

Also the "coming closer to your fate" bit directly clashes with Tzeentch's view that there is no end only change and rebirth, such finality as fate fits Nurgle's grand scheme much better.

  • how are u so sure it's nurgle?

  • You see him at the end plus what the narrator speaks about is directly related to matters Nurgle handle; decay and despair.

  • cool

  • Really like Nurgle's voice in this vid. While I am glad that WAR turned out as it is now, it could have been a bit "darker", I guess that can be fixed with brightness though haha.

Thanks alot for posting this! Didn't know this existed

  • the graphics look a little rough though, like they don't blend in well with the environment in this trailer (See 1:17). WAR was able to retain its darker and more realistic feel, but Mythic may have felt it better if it wasn't SO dark and eerie, otherwise only a few people would play it.

  • this is how the game SHOULD have turned out.

  • no it really isn't. Look at all the models they look freaking horrible. If you want WAR that dark just turn down the brightness on your monitor.

  • oh i'm sorry, i thought this was a video from alpha. yeah you're totally right. /sarcasm

  • the models weren't going to improve. If you look at their concept art for this one the models match it. There is a reason everyone stopped funding it.

  • a lot of those are finished models. If you look at all the old screenshots and concept drawings they match. Its clear this game was going to be horrible.

Yes it would be interesting to see how this game would have been but I wouldn't trade it for WAR.

Like the other guy said there is a reason Climax lost all its funding for it.

  • this is really a badass trailer. I do love the voice for this trailer. Very eeiry

  • WAR would have been better if they'd kept the graphics darker like this. Maybe they thought it would be too bleak though.

  • Nah, War is shit i think, pvp, spell casting, interaction all fucking terribad..but that could be because it's fresh pink new..i dont know..started playing wow again and it just feels right y'know? Its the little things about a game that makes it win

  • If u compare this trailer to the live game which came out 6 weeks ago..omg. I d rather have it the old way.. looks a lot darker , more realistic..

  • This is a cinematic trailer and not in game graphics.

  • Sorry this probably is the in game graphics, my bad, but still.

  • That looked more like a wierd Oblivion trailer, looks not like Warhammer to me

  • that was the fist i thougt about

  • I love it

  • mom...theres an ogre in the back yard O.O

  • You will be surprised how many of Climax's models, animations, etc... they kept for the newer Offical Warhammer Online game. Skaven and Plague Bearer's for example.

  • Unfortunately, they didn't seem to have carried over the dark and gritty feel that this trailer is exuding. IMHO, it's the lack of that gritty atmosphere, among other things, that makes immersion in WAR quite difficult. I'm not renewing my subscription and will probably stay away from MMOs for a while (maybe 'til Star Wars or the Warhammer 40,000 MMOs).

  • I heart WAR. Don't listen to the haters. Well worth it once they get fixing the (expected) bugs. It's not anything near the piece of trash vanilla WoW was though.

  • lol trash vanilla? lmao . well its like this WAR is a hardcore PVP game and its fun. WoW is a hardcore PVE game . so which ever you like better is cool. I like WAR and im playing it atm :D in server wolfenburg ^^.

  • true - but when WoW first came out, it didnt have any hardcore stuff in it. no raids or... anything. that was my point. and yes WAR rocks.

  • indeed, i played wow and now i play war and i can say that i like WAR the most!

  • And to those of you who say WAR's gameplay is crap, I disagree. It's set up to be boring and repetitive in Tier 1 if you aren't just starting the game for that race's lands for the first time, in which case it's all new and exciting, but the higher you get, (near Tier 2 and onward), you start getting lots and lots of options like attacking keeps. And the cities are loaded with stuff to do, your character could stay there for a full day just doing different things, very nice. And scenarios, too.

  • I would give up everything I own right now to be able to talk just like that whenever I wanted XD

  • What???!?! Climax and Sega??? What I have played is just Mythic... uhm... or Climax just made trailer? Dunno....

  • try reading the description.

this was the pitch video that climax and sega made while they were developing the original version of the game. they scrapped it and now Mythic took up the reigns and have produced the actual game
