  • REALLY impressive work :-)

    Keep it up

  • Anyone have more clips from Johan Sandklef's good job? :D

  • That's really cool. He's good at it. I'd love to be a camera operator and I know some pretty good techniques, but I don't know if I could lift that much.

  • this dude is good at this

  • how called the song at 3:31 ???

  • Steadicam Operating is like a Dancing with his camera.

  • I always thought that movements were made by a jib or something like that

  • yeah amazing job!

  • good job!!!

  • Sorry - pretty average steadi work if you ask me, yes he is good, but nothing spectacular. Check out Karsten Jacobsens steadi shot from Eurovison 2009 - THAT is spectacular!

  • @Phaero Yes I know I´m pretty average, but I was at the Eurovision in Russia 2009 as well, and eurovision 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 so I guess I´m ok at least.

  • should not be so fun for the audience to watch guys spin around the preformer xD

  • Amazing. Great timings!

  • Amazing

  • really one of the best Steadicam operators that our producers have viu.very good!

  • From high speed to almost slowmotion in one smooth movement. Want to learn walk like that...

  • Nice work by Johan!

  • great work disneyn. With moves likes this its better to watch tv.

Tip! loose the singers voice they its very annoying .

  • WOW!

  • Gran trabajo... que envidia.

    Great Work.

  • you are absolutely amazing! bravo :))

  • Great video. The timing of the moves, the sense of pace - fantastic. That's a lucky director that gets to work with you.

  • Hi Johan,

I was just wanna say that your work is amazing!!!

Plus you have a unique style of walking slowly...does that improve stability or is it just because the rig is heavy?

    Thanks...

  • amazing job.

  • I too wish to turn with the chamber around of people, that it would seem beautiful, I shall plunder the grandmother, and I shall buy the first Steadicam!

  • Awesome.

  • Amazing you are truly a gifted person

  • Nice job....About how much do you think a rig like that would weigh...any guesses???

  • Thanks, Yes that rig with the sony cam and the link is 26 kilos,

  • Great to see the operator in action and see the footage right after the operation.

  • VERY AWESOME JOHAN!!!

at 2:06, are you speaking? or chewing a bubble gum? ;-)

...and what gloves do you have?

    best regards

  • Hi and thanks, yes chewing gum always, it´s a concentration thing, the glove is a weightlifting glove nice to have when I do fast swooshpans.

    johan

  • i dream this job

  • Me too.

    He is so good!!

  • Great work, professionaly done.

    Again GREAT!

  • It's simply amazing what Johan can do with his Rig. It's a EFP, a rig which still rocks with today modern Steadicams.

It's like playing the violin, you can see Johan has a lovely relation with his girl (the rig) and that's shows this fantasic moves, the great locks and overall superb steady shots ..

    Simply love your work Johan

    Best, Erik

  • you are exactly right Erik, it is like a very lovely relationship, it´s a 14 year old rig and I only changed monitors twice, that´s it! I just love it. Thank you for those words, very nice to hear that from you. all the best back

    johan

  • Very inspiring to a young steadicam operator

  • WaooW ! 10/10 ,, mis respetos !

  • Wow.

    This guy is so good..

    AMAZING!!!!

  • Good!!!!!!

  • Right now, I'm so very proud to be swede.

  • Tack Johan!

  • Awesome! You know exactly what you are doing. Perfect shots!

  • Johan I add video response to this video. it's my practice :)

I'm Cliff, a steadicam operator from Taiwan, a university student age 21.

  • amazing work, when ever I need inspiration before operating my Steadicam, i watch this video.

  • +1 for being a god.

  • Riktigt imponerande!/workshop -08

  • Hey,

really reat job! But wich Steadicam do you use?

    Is that the Steadicam Ultra?

  • Thank you, no I use a 14 year old EFP that I have remodeled so it fits perfect for me.

  • Thank you, no I use a 14 year old EFP that I have remodeled so it fits perfect for me.

  • What? You are really Johan Sandklef???

If you are Johan... i am very happy of speack with you! Because johan sandklef is my absolute favourite steadicam operator!

  • thanks alot,

    johan

  • I cant belive how solid your lockoffs are... What kind of droptime are you using?

    Thanks.

  • Thanx, I´. m using a very long drop time, about 4 seconds. When I shoot movies I go with about 3 scoonds

  • Luke: On this event johan had help of a remote focus operator. Normally he must set the focus manually.

  • So do they use a remote focus unit like a bartech or similar, or do they just use the lenses own servodrive which is built into the lens grip and just operate it remotely?

  • Yes we use a remote focus unit, and the focus operator has a monitor and a clear view of me, but it´s only on this 6 shows of the swedish grand prix, that we use it. And this year I will probably have it in Belgrade for the eurovision song contest, I hope

  • Hi Johan,

I was on a steadicam job today and we were watching this video for last minuet tips :-D My problem is I gripping the gimbal. I have to hold it tight to tilt down for the first part of the shot but when i return to level i forget to loosen off and I end up gripping it really really tight... Oh well, practice makes perfect.

  • Does anyone know whether there was remote follow focus on this show? I'm not sure where I read it but I herd that Johan simply sets the focus before he goes on.

  • wooow!! goood Mans<33

  • there is someting strange about this video. take a look at the first guy. lights turn on as the cam man stand exactly at the left hand site of the singer. but when you can see the cameras view lights turn on much earlier.... hmm

  • The clips where the stedicam operator is visable is shooted at the rehersals and the tv-footage is shooted the day after at the tv-broadcast. Thats why some minor details in the video are diffrent :-)

  • I'm pretty attentive, huh?^^

  • Impressive, I'll say! :-D

  • haha - nice spot!

  • wow. this is really great. one of the best vids i've ever seen about steadicams

  • thanks for this great video! have you got more melodifestivalen clipes of your camera? please upload them.

b.t.w. the shots where you and the camera are appearing were shot at the rehearsals for the melodifestivalen and not at the evening of the contest, right?

  • Q1: I have more but yet not edited. I hope to add some more clips later..

Q2: Correct the shots where you can se Johan operating is shot on the rehersals for the show and the acutal tv-footage is from the evning after where the real broadcast was transmitted.

Thanks for your kind comment :-)

  • Johan. Congratulations for your work and the use of zoom controler. Goods for your focus puller

  • Great clip and excellent Steadicam work. It's great to see the moves first before the on-air result. Love the fast moves around the scaffolding. Were the actual moves rehearsed or were they mainly improvised?

  • Thanks, they were rehearsed, but on the rehearsals I can come up with own ideas wich is about fifiy fifty, the director has an idea for the moves and then I can work on that and improvise during the rehearsal but on the broadcast I have camera cards so I know exactly when and what I do in each song in this music show.

  • Incredible work, I hope to reach that level of competency someday. The video was very interesting because it shows the moves as well as the results....if it was HD it would have been the icing on the cake. Very good framing, zooms, steadiness, everything was perfect. Kudos and thanks for a great clip!

  • This is freakin priceless. I've been waiting for months to see Sandklef in action. Thanks very much.

  • nice work... footage looks well. im jus starting out as a cameraman...do a search for "irish base jump" its something i worked on (cant take the credit though i was'nt behind the camera on this one)

  • GREAT WORK!

  • Thanks Julian, I´m happy you can feel it, I´m always trying to let the music give me the right mood, But it´s terrible that your directors feel that way, here in sweden we have alot to say about the stage and ramps to get on stage and we usually can move around things to get us happy pappy. we also are in close with the stars and can tell them how they should move around on stage to get the best picture and stufff, so I hope your directors get the insight of that too soon. best regards johan

  • Hi Johan, I am a steadicam operator from HK.

After I saw your clips some months ago, I told my friends around that there is nobody in asia can do this!!!!

You drived the zoom control with the music bits very correctly and make the shots very beautiful...I'd learnt a lot through your clips, thanks so much!

  • But here in Hong Kong, normally those producers and directors are not allow the steadicam operator get on the stage so long time.... and when an operator block the audiences, then the director will only say one word, "GET AWAY from my sight!!!"...those producers and directors here are the same...so I cannot do this kind of steadicam run like you....this is the true facts.....sadly...

Men somsagt, övning ger färdighet ;D

  • Nice video! I had no idea the cameraman was running around like that! :P

  • Thanks, but the last remark I did I think I had a beer to much, sorry.

  • Mr Sandklef you rock!

  • Since EV0L8, wrote in swedish I guess he is from here and I know everybody in sweden that have tried steadi or been cool about it, so my conclussion is that you are a fake mister EV0L8, probably very fake beacause ??? By the way, why are you using a name like that? If you´re such a cam guy you should be fantasik

  • Thanks for the comments, yeah Erik I will do it at send it to you, probably next week. Thanks again and let me explain to EV0L8 that of course there is alot of good moves everywhere out there because there are very many proffessionals out here, what you don´t understand is that they have put alot of training and sweat to come there, you should appreciate that, everyone that had tried a steadicam knows that so I guess you havn´t.

  • very nice work,

i appreciate the zoom control that you are using with the moves

adds a nice dynamic feel, which isn't always that easy

and its not all that standard, fast circular moves to a lock off

    thats good shit

  • you are too easily impressed by standard steadicam operation

  • Sorry EVOL8, but in the Steadicam community there are a lot of operators who are serious impressed by the operating of Johan. Ofcourse, Steadicam is a tool, but he is using it for 200% which is all about the correct technics and beyond.

The fast starts/stops and lock off's are very very difficult to do, so simply amazing operating !!!

  • evol8 would you please post some of your difficult work with your steadicam rig,it would be a pleasure to watch what you got

  • lol, guys, its all very standard, whow me ONE steadicam operator who isn't just as "smooth and artistic" it IS smooth since its steadicam, you CANT make it not smooth, thats the whole point of the stadicam equipment.

  • thanks

  • Hi Johan,

Spoke some time ago via mail with you.., nice clip !!!, just as i sugested. Maybe you (or your friend) can combine this one with the other available clips and transfer them in a quicktime ?

    Amazing work !

    Best Erik

  • Very nice work Johan. I agree with pasjol, the moves around the scaffolding are terrific, very smooth and artistic.

  • Kul video disneyn.

  • Amazing stuff Johan!! I especially like the moves around the scaffolding, great dynamics!

MKT BRA!
