OK guys give me a break. This is just a video from my vacation... I'm not a thailand's trekking companies lover, same way I'm not an expert on thailand's elephant issues, so go and file your complaints somewhere else.

Elephants are tortured in Thailand. Do some research. Just type in 'thailand elephant abuse' or something like that in Google and you'll find plenty of information. The method used to 'train' elephants is horrible. you are NOT helping the elephants by supporting these cruel elephant trekking companies. Please think before joining in on the problem.
My friend, Im afraid you are wrong. You are missing the fact that the great menace that Thais elephants and Mahouts (elephant trainers) are facing today is unemployment and tourism is the only source of income they have. Unfortunately there are some questionable practices by some minorities but you have to be very careful before you generalize.
Sorry, but most elephant trekking companies are raising elephants to increase their stock. This is not a case of them helping unemployed elephants when they rear babies in captivity. Did you trekking company have any baby elephants? Besides, elephants haven't been used for logging for well over a decade as logging was banned in '96. The mahouts are unemployed, not the elephants. The queen has a project whereby elephants are reintroduced to the wild and there are elephant sanctuaries as well.
Hell Yeah, Did this trek also, but went with BMP Residence :) Well worthwhile doing it, recommended to anyone. You will meet people there dont worry :) So much fun
I hope I was there with you guys!! love it... i'll be in thailand on aug 21, 07' I hope I can meet alot of people like you and hope I could go with them!! awsome!!!
It's too dadgum hot in Thailand, but seeing the culture is worth it.
