My advice would be get as much roughnecking experience on land rigs, and when you are working shakers, or derricks, apply offshore in the GOM. Land rigs are a harder row to hoe than working offshore, I did both back in the 80's and 90's and offshore is the ONLY way to do this kind of work.
I called 3 oil jobs and they all wanted to hire me that day.. and i have no oil experience. I have lived in North Dakota for my whole life, and do have a class A with a tanker endorsement, no hazmat i was going to truck water.. so that probably helps.
before you all start flocking here, either have a Class A CDL with HazMat endorsement or atleast a year previous oil field experience or you wont get hired. just letting you all know. i work as a floorhand here in williston, and i see people filling out applications all day most of them with no experience, and i know for a fact they wont get hired, and the HR department is so sick of getting so many apps from people who have no experience in the oilfield.9 out of 10 applicants dont get call back
@reotardodickcraprio I was going to go out there to get a job. I know someone who moved out there with no experience and is making 100k within a few months with no cdl...as well as two other people...i might just take my chances
@CMink7777 Yeah i heard u got big chances of getting a job there a think @reotardodickcraprio is just a hater who doesnt want people to make a lot of money. im getting prepared to go there in 2 or 3 months im saving money to head up there. good luck man!

@gregjalbert Listen here you JACK ASS! I Dare you to go one day with out use any OIL in your day that means NO PLASTIC, on your food or touching your Shampoo bottle, NO DRIVING, b/c that has oil written all over it just in how the FUEL that was USED TO MAKE IT, transporting parts on a ship to the person who drove to the plate to work on it! Then If you are one of those ppl who rides a bike, every part on that has used oil on it or to make it.
@gregjalbert Think about it, EVERYTHING THAT YOU USE TO THIS DAY USES OIL AND FUEL THAT HAS COME OUT OF THIS GROUND THAT YOU CALL HOME! Watch your mouth! You have NO CLUE in how the oil flied works (or what it is used in) nor would you ever think about getting a job that you "MIGHT" get a "LITTLE" "DIRTY". ANY job that has to do with the oil flied is HARD BACK BRAKING WORK, YOU are responsible for not just you but the LIFE'S of other. As far as the cold goes you are a PUSSY!!!
@snowratk I worked on the rigs for about a year. I'm a Minot native. It's not all back breaking work, but the hours are really hard to deal with. You shouldn't let people on the internet piss you off so much. They're anonymous and it's not worth the effort. =)
This is a POOOOR example of a drilling rig. Cyclone Drilling is a joke in the industry. They operate so far behind the times, its not funny....Go to a Nabors, or even an H&P rig.
Drill baby, drill is right. Lets get into Medora too. Damn sage infested tourist trap. God gave it to us for a reason. He put it in ND, MT and Canada for a reason. He knew sensible people would liver here, that why its not in California or New York. Ha Ha Ha Ha, liberal scum... God Bless America !!!!!!
@travismany The only thing that I can say is DRILL as hard and fast as you can! I love the oil country the little old ND has become! Plus the 6 to 1 men to women. Its fun for a girl in the west these days!
As North Dakotans, we should just work these fields and fill the jobs so no riff raff comes into our state. We dont need more than we have now. Geez, one of the biggest oil fields EVER in the history of mankind. In tiny, itty bitty North Dakota. GOD BLESS AMERICA and NORTH DAKOTA !!!!!!!!!
DRILL BABY DRILL for domestic energy! there IS NO global warming, that is a SCARE TACTIC. Renewable energy cannot replace oil and gas. We either drill here or we continue to shell out ONE BILLION DOLLARS A DAY to Terrorist countries. TAKE YOUR PICK. We are paying for both sides of the war. Morons. Doesn't matter to you people, I guess, so long as it's not in our back yard, right?? We'll just go broke. Pffffft.
@TTURedRaidr You obviously don't know anything about economics (or anything about anything) if you value a whole state by an "obnoxious" stereotype.
Instead of speaking in such an uninformed way, why don't you buckle down and educate yourself before you act like some loud mouth, uneducated (or should I say obnoxious) individual.
There are plenty of people like you, that's why you go so many thumbs ups.
Making hole isn't like it use to be, use to sell rope soap and dope in the Williston basin. Now no rope, no dope, and a spinning chain is in a mussem some were, or in the back of an old ruffnecks pickup as a towchain. Live half my life a few miles from the Clarance Iverson #1, Glad to see life easier in Dakota. Rennet what us old hands said in the eightys. Lord please let me have one more oil boom, I promise not to pisss this one away. God bless. River Rat Tim
Ladies and gentlemen, if I say I'm an oil man you will agree.
