I have one of these. I just got it back from a vintage audio repair shop not too long ago. Have you noticed that it has a lot of trouble playing translucent colored records? It's been bumming me out, I'm trying to find a fix or a workaround for it. Still, a very neat record player. Very unique.
I had one of those. It was a better conversation piece than it was a turntable. The lack of platter made any record with even the slightest warp sound horrible.
Only the brilliant engineers in Japan can make something as interesting as this phonograph. I have a Fisher phonograph that was made in Japan, and I suppose that's why it still works to this day.
I bought one of these on Ebay last year for only $36 in Canadian dollars (not including shipping) and two weeks later, I saw a second one sell for $136 US!
It is really a fantastic model and I enjoy being able to hear both sides of a record without having to get up and flip sides manually.
You can also choose specific tracks on each side of the record that you want to hear which is another great feature.
One doesn't see these units pop up on Ebay too often; maybe two or three a year.
This is a Sansui P-L95R fully automatic turntable.
It features random access with individual band scanning and programming. (It can scan how many tracks are on the record and can play each one at the touch of a button.)
It also features automatic reverse so both sides are played without getting up. This is achieved with a dual tone arm system, one for each side.

All Sansui auto-reverse turntables were made in Japan by Sansui.
I used to own this exact model and its successor, the P-M90.

This would have been the future of record players if CDs had never been invented in the 80s.

It would be difficult to clean dust off the styli(plural)not to mention hitting the record with the carbon fiber brush before each play.
dwoodog 3 years ago
There are brushes, one for each side, built in for sweeping the styli.

That is one cool Record Player! How does it "Fast forward" or "rewind" or go to the next track?
