Both versions sound great. But to me the true ideal version would have had Roger doing vocals and Peter just handling the ripping guitars. I guess that's getting a bit greedy though.
Pete wrote virtually all Who songs during the 70s, he typically did the demos playing all instruments and singing all vocals himself. I don't know about extrapolating that Pete was "supposed" to sing this from hearing him sing the vocals in demos. That'd be like extrapolating that Pete should play the drums instead of Keith, since he played some drums on his demos. I think this version would fit better with Roger's raspy voice though.
Hey New English....understand your point on my point....the Scoops give us the demos....but I disagree and think Pete was supposed to sing this on the album....this was a bring forward song from Lifehouse....and if Pete recorded it in studio it may have been better? By the way....the guy who posted Leslie West played the lead on this was exactly correct....same lead as Missippi Queen...listen to the back end of it....same lead.
@yukonxl16034 oh shit really? I never knew that. Was this at the Young Vic or another 1971 venue? I first heard this cut on the Alice Cooper show in 2007, then found it again on Who's Next Deluxe. Best version of this song hands down.
A track from the New York sessions.

Quite a treat to hear this version, especially with Leslie West, I do prefer the Who's Next version with Roger on vox, but this is awesome!
