  • Great video, very relaxing and entertaining. I just can't wait to play with my friends this Thursday!

  • @chinapcboy Here's hoping to you win, and if not, at least have fun! :)

  • I'd suggest the yellow card that produces the extra resources only you have access to.

  • The sound effects are great!

  • @doxaios83 Chaz did a great job! Glad you liked it.

  • I just bought 7 wonders today. My new gaming hobby is fun, and I can't wait to play this one. Thanks, Watch It Played.

  • @rocknec1 You're absolutely welcome :) I hope you really have fun with the game and get to share that fun with others!

  • I would probably take the caravansery (assume that your son is going to take the Statue and that your daughter is not going to take anything to do with military) and then if my assumptions hold true, I'd probably take the stables the next time this deck came around (depending of course on what I took/did on the next 2 turns.

This video series is going to make me have to buy 7 wonders.

  • Take Caravansary.

  • Caravancery. No contest. It basically unlocks *everything* outside of Manufactured ressources. You will have access to 3 Stones, 2 Bricks, 2 Ores and 3 Woods. That Trading Post becomes sort of a wasted pick however.

  • A few errors in Age 1 : should have taken the Timber Yard then built up to stage 2 ASAP instead of taking the Military card.

Once you started Military you shouldn't have let Luke get his hand on that second Military card, because he's feeding you in Age 2. You now have almost no way to win military against both neighbors this turn, and you'll probably have to bow out and only get half points in Military by beating on Andrea.

  • Lumber Yard would have been sweet earlier but was now a wasted pick, should have taken the trading card for manufactured ressources, since you have access to none.

That Trading Post is definitely a wasted pick if you're getting Caravancery in Age 2. Should have used to build your Wonder. 3 points is a tad low on Age 2.

  • @XBlackFlagX Thanks for the analysis. I really wasn't confident after Age 1, and this is probabaly why!

  • @XBlackFlagX He has only built a single military card. If Andrea doesn build any for the entire game that card will have net him 9 points and gives Andrea -3. That's a pretty good score for an age III play; for an age I card that is just amazing. Military, if unopposed, is just crazy.

  • The good news is, I agreed with all the cards you played in the first age. The bad news is, I've never played the game before... :)

  • @dkyzar You'll want to see the next episode for sure. Your quote inspired a new element for the episodes.

  • Play Caravancery

  • I have a question with the baths you get 3 victory Coins at the end of the game so if you would play the aquaduct would you get and additional 5 VC giving you a total of 8 VC or just 5 because you are getting rid of the baths to play the aquaducts?

  • @SuperCoolJosh147 Good question. You never throw out any cards you have built. Having the Baths just allows you to play the Aquaduct for free (ignoring it's listed resource cost). So in the end, you'll have both cards in your civilization and get 8 Victory Points. Hope that helps!

  • With your fundraiser, you are raising funds to raise fun. So, in essence, your fundraiser is actually a fun-raising raiser of fun.

  • @TyphoidBryan lol, nice one :)

  • For the next age, I'd focus on building blue cards. Make sure Andrea cannot make any sets. Choose either cogs or tablets and get rid of them; put them toward your wonder or discard for coins. Toward the end of the age you might consider a military building if you think you can give Luke a run for his money in the third age (10 VP for defeating both your neighbours is a big thing). If you get passed the Forum, grab it!

From this hand I'd definitely pick the Statue. It only costs 1 coin for 4 VPs

  • Hey Rodney,

Another great game youŕe showing off here.

Some strategy comments; I think placing the Trading Post was a mistake. You're solid in the brown resources department and Olympia's wonders should (imo) either be ignored or you have to rush the first two stages (I like too keep the last one open for when I really want to take a card away from an opponent).

Having built that Trading Post, getting the Timber Yard is an odd choice. Since you have 0 grey resources I'd have taken the Market.

  • @AdenineMonkey Yeah, I think I made a mistake there. The cameras... the hot lights... the pressure!!

  • Dude I really like your videos! Your not some guy just randomly coming on YouTube and reviewing a game, you review it then tell us how to play, THEN you play it! Anyway great videos keep it up!

  • @Ryanfinder226 That's very nice of you to say Ryan. We are trying to do something a little different here. Glad it's working for ya!

  • FYI..I like the intro and music but the sound effects got annoying almost immediately. They are only going to get worse as we go along. Though I do appreciate the creativity. It would be nice to have the kids show how they made their choices and to even see what their strategy is for the game if they would be interested in doing that.

  • @davidflegel They might be interested, but I would be a bit worried about the length of time it would add to the series :)

We'll be turning down the effects alittle in the second age.

  • I would strongly encourage you to take the yellow card that gets you money. You can't turn down a minimum of 7 coins. Plus, you have a lot of good cards in your hand and I am pretty sure at least one of the double resource cards will get back to you.

  • I would consider using the double ore resource to build your first wonder stage. If you can get rid of the rest of the ore resources, Luke won't be able to build the third stage of his wonder AT ALL. Barring that, I agree with others that you should probably bury the VP card in your wonder.

  • @niconc2 Devious. I like it.

  • Use the Stables or Statue to build your first wonder to collect some quick victory points. Otherwise, I'd lay down the money maker card to collect some coin or discard one of the same cards stated first to get some quick coin. I have a feeling you will need some more money soon.

  • My first thought was to build the double ore as a wonder to prevent Luke from getting it, but then I remembered you pass to the right this round. Andrea would get the military one for free and I don't think she'd pass it to Luke. So I suggest either playing the red card or building it as your wonder stage.

  • @mestrahd I should have reminded people about the passing right thing!

  • Also, the reason I mentioned going after something Luke would want was because I forgot the passing switches direction every round. So it makes more sense to get rid of something Andrea would want since she'll get the card set next. I feel like she's probably more of an issue overall anyway (no offense to Luke--it just seems like the VP/science strategy would work better, though I've never played this game).

  • A couple of suggestions on your fine show... It's a bit fiddly scrubbing the video back and forth to see the player boards and the cards in your hand. How about putting photos or screen grabs on your Facebook page? We also found the sound effects unnecessary, but the intro bit made me laugh. One final thought - how about including Andrea and Luke's choice of music/game somehow?!

  • @barneyhawes Good idea with the Facebook page upload. I will do that. Wasn't quite sure what you meant on the second idea.

  • First off I really enjoy your videos and I have watched all of them up to this one, I think you guys do a really good job showing how each game works, second I think you did pretty well during the first age, now for your first card in age 2 I would go with the Caravansery card. Also I plan on donating money next paycheck to continue the epicness of WatchItPlayed. Cant wait for your next video.

  • @Spankletooth Thanks for the offer of support Spankle! Glad you've been enjoying the series. Thanks for watching all of them! That's no small task!!

  • luke's gonna get military no matter what so i say shut down the free VP (Statue) by using it to build stage one of your wonder (as others have said).

and, imho, the sound effects were a *little* distracting, especially the "build resources' one. maybe when the sound effect is made, do a fast cutaway to some funny pic or something. i really liked the game start scene tho, nicely done.

  • I agree with @RiddleFlowOn @shawnpenson after thinking about it, I still like the idea of getting to 2nd stage asap so that it's not wasted for Age II as well as burning card that the other two would want. It doesn't make sense to put the military down because Luke's gonna have crazy military anyway (which is what the two were saying), so just get those free VP out of the game.

  • @RiddleFlowOn I imagine something like this will seem good for some and annoying to others. To try to appeal to both camps, I'll leave the effects in, but maybe turn them down a little bit in Age 2. Thanks for the feedback!

  • With Luke's wonder I don't know how easy it will be to fight off his military. If you take the +2 army card away from him to build your wonder and he still ends up beating your with his military it's kind of a useless play. It doesn't matter how much he beats you buy just that his military is stronger. Chances are he is going to get those military victory points anyway so you should use the Blue card which would give him 4 free VP to build your wonder.

  • @shawnpenson I really like when people explain their ideas. It may not get picked, but I think it's interesting to follow a thought process through. Thanks!

  • Gotta say, I love the 'use the military card to build the 1st stage of your wonder' play, it boosts your victory points while slowing down the military arms race. Also definite kudos to the aussie for the sound-effects and music, just the right amount as an added touch. Great vid as always, looking forward to what happens next :)

  • @ItCameFromUpNorth You'll find out soon. Finished recording the next episode a few hours ago.

  • Love your videos! I agree with some others here, take away the military card for Luke and build the first stage of your age. Also, I think your use of sound effects/humor is well balanced. This last one about "...looking for a handout..." made me laugh out loud!

  • @jrmorgan56 It's not a bad Wonder really :) But it was hard to think of something heroic or noble to say about it!

  • Are you able to use resources (from neighbors) the same turn they are put down?

  • @chillbocamron Good question, the answer is no, and I'll mention this during the next video!

  • Rodney, I would build the Statue buying the 1 missing resource from Luke.

  • I agree on using one of the cards Luke needs to build up your wonder, and try to quickly get your wonder to level 2.

Also; loving the new sound effects and intro. Great work.

  • @LazyAnsem I was really happy with the music, and just hoped the sound effects wouldn't be too distracting. I don't ever want to get too crazy with that stuff, but I hoped a little of it, might be fun.

  • rodney, i would try to get the vineyard first then use military and science cards to get to the 2nd level of your wonder next to take max advantage of it's special ability and drop cards that your enemies need (yeah yeah i know they are your kids but for now they are enemies) . Love the vids BTW, good luck on the fund raising!!!!

  • @MrGgabber No worries, when we play games together we don't go easy on each other (I can never afford too, they're too good! Or I'm too bad... it's one of those things...)

    Glad you're enjoying the show!!

  • The Green backdrop and purple table reminds me of the Riddler Hideout in the old 1960's Batman

  • @MutantMike90 If I could, I would snap a picture of me and my 60's Batman Movie Blu-ray and send it to you :)

  • maybe give coins to your daughter and build the blue card so that Luke wouldn't get it .... should upset him a little or go for the free additional recourse ....

  • @AlexanderTF I like the way you think!

  • @WatchItPlayed rule 1 be a genius .... rule 2 be a twisted mad genius ....

  • Deny the ore for Luke, by building the first stage with the card!!!!

  • First off, let me say I really enjoy watching these videos. They are very informative and entertaining. I pretty much want every game that you've played so far, especially the Lord of the Rings LCG! This game looks great too! It's also great to see you play these games with your kids and getting them interested and involved. Gaming is a fantastic hobby!

As for the video, I think I saw one mistake. You didn't pay the coin cost for your Timberyard. For your turn, I'd go with the caravansery.

  • @Bruhmm2112 Very true. I failed to pay on both cards I had to buy. I'd love to be able to remember what I was doing that caused me to put that money back. Must have reshot a scene and forgot to pay. This will be fixed next episode!

  • I would build Stage 1 with the Statue.

  • @MajMalfunction10 I've just recorded the next episode. So we'll see :)

  • I agree with Argle2.... Take the blue card Luke can build for free and build stage 1 of your wonder. Although I never win at this game either, so you may want to do the opposite of my choice!

  • @Crankbait4444 Hahaha, I like the way you think!

  • As for your choice, the stables would definitely be picked by one of the two kids. Luke would also like the statue due to it being free. I would think Andrea would also like to take the vineyard. Since you are passing to the right, I think Andrea will take the stables and Luke will take the statue. I would take the Vineyard now and then the Caravansery will be available next round.

  • I say build the first stage with one of the cards that luke would want (either the military one or the victory point one).

  • @Argle2 I was thinking that way too...

  • @Argle2 Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing :)

  • Shouldn't you only have 4 silver coins Rodney? You paid one to build clay pit (3->2) then Luke paid you 2 coins to use your clay (2->4). Looks like you have a little too much coinage (5) in front of you.

  • @Mortimus83 Very true. I will fix this in the next episode. Thanks for catching that, I might not have!

  • @Mortimus83 Actually i think he should end up with 3.. -2 x 1 gold for the resources cards and +2 for the resource Luke bought

  • @pytman Good point. For some reason I thought he took the marketplace instead of the timberyard. That should leave him at 3 coins. Far too much coinage on Rodney's end!

  • @Mortimus83 I had no idea I was so greedy. It's been captured on film, I can't deny it now!

  • Go for the caravansery.
