Nice job dude hell once you finish school and get some experience out there you should seriously think about teaching welding. When i was welding in school I learned more from two students that were about 6 years younger then me then the teacher. One of the guys actually became a welding instructor which was great because he could really explain why and how things work.
Like someone else said you got a dam good thing going here keep it up.
Pretty Cool Chuck.. Is this sort of like butt welded pipes, excepting that they have a big bevel machined on both ends? Then you just fill the bevel to make it flush?
Something funky was going on because it was at like 15 degrees and it wasn't the normal like slowly pulling apart it was like a legit snap like you would expect from a hardened steel or something so idk what was up.
Man I did one over the weekend on some 3/8" plate 2g with 6011 and covered it with some of my new Excalibur 7018's It was clean looking man cut it up and took it to school and tested it I had complete faith in it cause it turned out dam good started bending it and snap! I was like what the hell now its time for some research to figure out wth happened both face and root.
@welder2012 you need to use a 6010 1/8 with temp about 70-75 6011 isn't good for a root pass, and can be used but 6010 is recommended.

most applications i've seen for this type of weld is chrome moly pipes in power station boilers, and they were filled by TIG not stick
