@seedekim: Unfortunately that's not always the case. In Canada we have provinces instead of states, provincial-level choirs are the same thing, but depending on the background of the province or territory, the choir can either be incredible, or reek balls, depending on the education and focus on music. A choir of trained singers will always sound better than "the best high school choir in the province". Same goes with the states. We all take music seriously.
Having been in the choir, I feel the need to defend the length we gave the song. This was the first song of our concert. We had decided beforehand to play it by ear on repetitions. Our faces were absolutely blooming, and we had so much energy. We felt like a family, and it was apparent. The director saw fit to let that feeling continue to flourish.
i love this song soo much, and when i sang it with the greater richmond children's choir last year, everyone said we did amazing...probably because we're directed by hope armstrong erb!
but that piece was 3-4 minutes long. this version is soooo repetetive, and the choir isn't very good.
@EllieandAllieShow im guessing it would sound better live cuz tape changes it, but i agree they could have done better..nd ya this is def. very long, but thats just cuz they have so many people!
Our Choir at Denfeld High School in Duluth,MN did this and we were awesome and I proud to say I'm part of choir and this video is what us get our motivation!!!!!
One thing that I would change would be that when the solo comes in I would back off on the volume, they over-power the great solo which should stick out more.
My school chorus is doing this song. Fred T Foard High School...we aren't very well known cause we're from suck a small town, but we're good! =] I'm not sure if our rendition is this long, we've only learned the beginning of it this morning. But that was an amazing performance and I can't wait to lean the entire song and perform it =]. Awesome Job though.
The director was really good about reading how we were feeling during the song. If we were in the groove, he just let us sing and resing it, which he did. We had a blast.
It's been 21 years since I first sang in this choir. I am now a professional singer who has done tons of neat things, like sing for a U.S. President. My time with the Oklahoma All-State Choir is still the most profound musical experience I've had in my 24 year career. I have to agree about the recording not doing the choir justice. I hope this isn't an official recording. Congrats on making the choir.
Xtrakoolness, That could be perceived as a bit arrogant...I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, though, right? Let's face it, ALL all-state choirs are good. The singers are the cream of the crop. Any student who makes it has a right to be proud of their accomplishments--no matter what state they live in.
I'm Jared, I was in Oklahoma's Junior High All-State.
I'm sure, if any of these people in this choir auditioned for your so called "Better than this choir" Texas All-State, The Magority of them would make it.
Sorry, Jared. I was a three-year Oklahoma all-state choir member '87-'89 (was a soloist in '89). Oklahoma all-state members would have a tough time making Texas all-state, but would be shoo-ins for Texas all-regional choirs. I did go to high school and college with a girl who made both choirs, so I know it can be done. However, we can't compete with their sheer numbers. With that said, I'd say we're closer to the Texas standard than most states our size. Not a level playing field.
I was a member of the choir, and I find it very rude that you would call Texas the best. Granted, Texas has an excellent music program, but Oklahoma does as well. "Doin it big," makes me wonder just how "big" you've maken it, not talking about your ego.
I guess since ya'll do it big down south, that's why they came up with the little rhyme: "Here I sit with my buns a-flexin', givin' birth to another Texan."
this recording doesn't do the live performance justice! i can't begin to explain how amazing it was to be in this choir, but it was awesome! especially getting hit in the back of the head when people were raising their hands and how we were all worried that the risers would fall over when we were moving around... good times! thanks for posting this! :)
