lol my dad is born in oahu but he came to hawaii anyway. when he and his friend promised to join the army together... he was just about to get on, sold his car and all his stuff was ready packed all his stuff.. then he could go because at the time he was about to get on he rememberd he couldnt leave his wife molly. anyway lol so his friend was going on the plane anyway he played this song while he was leaving on perpose to tase his friend XD
i just listened to the beamer version, and while it is beautiful, i can honestly say that i would rather listen to karen's sweet, rich voice singing this than them.
Had this been released during Karen's lifetime, I wonder if she & Richard would have recorded a "Carpenters" multi-tracked harmony for the chorus? The Beamer Brothers harmonized on the chorus in their version, and it sounds wonderful. The OK Chorale backs Karen here, but they can't come close to the magic of Carpenters overdubs.
Karen's version is so polished and her voice is so beautiful, but she doesn't sound Hawaiian, which detracts from the core of the song. Beamers' version is much more moving.
I never ever heard this before! Thank you Karen for loving my home and finding it to be in your heart, but I got to say that Da Beamers did it best and they carry the flavor and style of home and truely "stir up memories in me".
