  • Mark, that was by far the best explanation of how to use histograms. I still have one question - do we need to care about histograms if we are shooting in raw?

  • You are so pedagogical, thank you!!

  • @Oskar900318 An andragogical approach is great but consider the learning level of the average person and you'll know why a pedagogical approach is ideal :)

  • So that's the reason for using a grey card? To see if it lies correctly under grey to ensure that everything else is correctly exposed?

  • I understand that you can use a gray card to get your exposure right. But in practice wouldn't zooming in on the gray card, setting your exposure, and then zooming back out to take a picture of the subject result in an overexposed shot? Doesn't zooming in and out affect your exposure? I find this confusing. Thanks

I'm sure Mark will get to this in time. To answer your question, yes it will if you are using a cheaper lens. Alot of time refered to as a kit lens, meaning the lens you got with the camera. Look at the front of the lens, if you see i.e. 1.4-5.6 your aperture will shift and change your exposure. If your really into photography get yourself a good nonshift lens, meaning the aperture stays constant the hole range of your lens. Not to drop names, but Sigma makes some nice lenses.

  • wow! i've been searching all over youtube about this topic and none of them answered what i'm looking for until now,....thanks Mark!.......I still can't believe you're doing this for free!

  • As below. Another priceless lesson in easy to understand jargon. Cheers Mark
