When this music came out it was like "This is it. The space age has arrived!" Now what have we got? Sub-sonic air travel, CCTV, cell phones, more stupid wars and facebook. I guess I shouldn't complain, but what happened to the dream? ;)
I've been looking for this for years! It was in the film that mad Jackie Chan famous: "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow." (not the silly english dub version.)
OK, but it's a bit "Popy". If you want to get really "spaced" listen to early Tangerine Dream albums, like - Zeit, Alpha Centauri, Phaedra, Atem and Rubycon. A dark room, a good set of headphones and a bottle of red. Then say goodbye to mother earth and go surfing through the cosmos. Happy days
I remember, way back in the 70s, there was a crappy little music video that went with this song, of weird performance artists jiggling around with pointy things on their hands.
Beautiful, creepy, mysterious, weird, futuristic...that's some of the words that can describe this music....
TBH I've been searching for the title of this music since I was a kid. Luckily some guy at the Snake in Eagles shadow video mentioned the name Jean-Michel Jarre.
I remember partying when i was younger. when the night was drawing long,.. a buddy would pop this tape in,..auto-reverse he was so high tech back in 90,.....
smoke a fatty and call it the night the 4 of the best friends anyone could ever have chilling to Oxygen. I miss those times.
this music instantly reminds me of where I come from and of what i am made of... dust from the dawn of times... and that i am love.... the love of God.... thanks for sharing....
This music comes from end of time trough time and space to us is rather to say . I'm just go stuned from these extra terrestrial sounds . Jarre - the father of electronic music and all of it's myriad genres - on knees before him !!!
Thank you for the amazing video Jack. I've loved this music since watching Peter Weir's movie "Gallipolli" in 1983. Breathtaking music and very spiritual, just like your graphics!
That right channel flute and counter-melody that starts at 3:29 is pure class. The whole track beautifully encapsulates what electronic music is all about! A timeless piece that never grows tired. It speaks of realities beyond ours.
@Barbaragreen11 Do you mean that once adult your son is not listening anymore to this music? I listen to it first when young too and I still love it. Thanks to jackrudybacks to attract me with his amazing videos, not only high quality sound, and made me discover new type of music that I could enjoy like Cafe Del Mar. I tend to listen more to what I used to listen to when young, from CD-s, but I lost a great part of them when moving. I am grateful that you tube exists!
@ask1Tele facts? What facts? I don't dispute that you have gleaned some meaning from the pictures, but I didn't, so unfortunately I really have no idea what you are talking about. Each to their own, I suppose.
Jeezo, I'd forgotten just how strange Jean Michel Jarre's music is! Better than some other stuff out there, but I've never been able to glean some hidden meaning from his music.
My dear friend Stan Jarmiolowski (rip) turned me on to Jarre and to the 80's for that matter. I too was in my very formative stages of musicianship. Jarre had a profound impact on me to this day. Without Jarre there would be no SYNTHETAMINE
The song is about individual experience of the big picture, we are overwhelmed, insignificant, yet connected to every bit of everything, we are all one.
This part of oxygene would definitely fit in as a background music to arcade style side scrolling shooters like Galaga, Gradius, R-Type & others similar to those.
@TheMagmagoblin wow, I heard such great things about Stockholm. From your viewpoint, how is life there? I would very much like to live in an environment where people are totally friendly and open-minded.
