She is a great writer and a great example of left-wing ideology! Camille it's selfish and arrogant, but is more smart than (a lot) people can understand. Paglia has her weakness, but is brave and is smart .-.
She goes on about how gay couples bond so much better than female ones, but then has quoted elsewhere that there needs to be less intimacy in lesbian relationships?
I, and no one cares, fell in love with her the first moment I saw her. I tried to get my two wifes interested in books. The first had no interest; the second, we read together, she one page me the next. I miss that. To be with Camilla is a wish that will never come true. Most of my dreams have. Best wishes.
I'm glad she's "changing" her opinions, but again, any academic who could make such comments is NOT radical. Her regurgitation of the standard liberal defenses of Obama clearly demonstrates to me that she's all show and no substance. She's a political and academic opportunist who has and continues to make a career out of being a cliche. And I"ve read Sexual Personae, Vamps and Tramps, and countless articles.
I have to call BULLSHIT on Camille Paglia. Any queer who defends and supports Obama and has the audacity and thoughtlessness of whining about Iran, Israel, and North Korea at a time when most Americans don't give a shit is clearly NOT a radical and out of touch with reality.
Those who are wondering who this woman is should read her books (or at leats her fucking Wikipedia entry!) before commenting. YouTube isn't the end-all, be-all. Pick up a fucking book!
Who IS this elderly chick?? She's got the worst voice on planet earth and she has some weird thinking. Like some staid, old, moth ball smelling lady wearing a floral pattern.
Teaching matrimony is a sacrament gives to a religious clergy the power to judge the lawfulness of marriages and ecclesiastical censure of divorce.
The government of men's external actions by religion, pretending the change of nature in their consecrations cannot be esteemed a work extraordinary, it is no other than a conjuration or incantation, whereby they would have men to believe an alteration of nature that is contrary to the testimony of sight and of all the rest of the senses.
Don't feel you have to attach an idea or concept to a person. Ideas, proposals, propositions, concepts can be discussed on their own merit and don't have to be justified by being labeled with the person saying it. If you can understand that then you can understand the things Camille talks about. She truly is the most tolerant and nurturing intellectual in America and would kick my ass for saying that. Americas lesbian big sister.
It's bizarre that people take this woman seriously and discuss her views as though they are the product of a rational mind. She is quite evidently demented; one step away from a lunatic asylum.
Camille Paglia pretends to be a progressive-minded intellectual, but she is nothing more than a bigoted ultra-right wing ideologue who makes numerous attacks on people of her own gender and sexual orientation to further her credibility as an outsider to the liberal academic world. She is an absolute disgrace as far as I'm concerned, and will only be remembered as a press-hungry author of several sloppy, chaotically written books consisting mostly of laughable diatribes at her university enemies.
@bs17 And don't get any ideas, mister. When dating men, I don't date self-aggrandizing male feminists. So bright, so intelligent and so indepented, yet when love comes - you just fall apart.
Camille is in love at this point and falling apart. Without her - life would be less. How could anyone live with fast talking woman. Me? Ah, come off it John, she will talk and drink you under the table. That's me talking to myself. Also this:- Camille and Milla Jovovich and Ellan Page on a thrill ride. Guess that dream will never come true. Most have.
I don't know how she was ever seen as the voice of modern feminism, as a lesbian she could not possibly understand the intricacies of male/female relationships. Her view is very one-sided; she also theorized in one of her books that human civilization is at it's best when homosexual males are dominant in society in politics and society.
@indabushwoman Um, lesbians are women who live in society too, and they experience the same sort of societal pressures and prejudices as straight women do. Furthermore, as women, their experiences should be given as much attention as straight women in feminist thought. Heterosexist much?
@bs17 Actually some of my best friends are lesbians;I have quite a few gay male friends too;they all generally agree that the dynamics of a heterosexual relationship are generally more difficult than those of a homosexual one(not to say that doesn't have it's difficulties too). Of course women in the world as a whole, whether straight or lesbian have to deal with the same patriarchal bullshit, but the lesbian goes home to someone who can sympathize and not be told she is a man-hating bitch!
@indabushwoman Even if lesbians don't have to deal with the issues that arise in romantic/sexual relationships with men, to say that a lesbian can't be a spokesperson for feminism is still insulting. Feminism encompasses much more than just interpersonal relationships, and it is wrong of you to assert that a lesbian can't be at the forefront of a movement that has many common goals that all women, regardless of sexual orientation, can benefit from.
@indabushwoman Furthermore, just because your gay friends have easier relationships than your straight ones does not mean that heterosexual relationships are any harder than gay ones. Also, lesbians have unique struggles that straight women do not have to deal with -- their relationships being treated as fallacious because they don't include men, for one. Funny that you didn't single out those unique lesbian struggles to claim that straight women should be excluded from feminist leadership.
@bs17 Actually now that I think about it, they don't have it easier; just different issues like you say(esp. the lesbians). And I don't believe that lesbians shouldn't have leadership roles in the feminist movement, just not Camille Paglia...
I think the whole two mommie or two daddy idea is only confusing to children IN RELATION to adults. Kids don't care and understand more easily than we ever give them credit for, unless they sense the confusion it elicits in adults. THAT'S when the teasing starts.
@happylilsunbeam I have to thank you for your comment,it´s nice and conforting to know that there are people that see things exactly how they are and dont make up excuses because they dont want to accept people that live ,feel and believe in things in a diferent way.
I adore Paglia, but she's a complete hypocrite on the two mommies thing. Umm... you and your lesbian partner are raising a child... that means the kid has two mommies... Mom Camille (a female) and Mom Allison (a female). Is she saying that one of the women must always take a distant, butch, father role?
@rhino79 she's saying that there can't be two primary mother figures. Her partner bore the child so she is the biological mother and primary mother figure, while Camille takes a secondary role. She's not against it, she is stating that there are difficulties that go along with it, especially for the child. She also mentions how having same sex couples adopt makes adults (I'm assuming she means liberals) feel good, while not having to deal with all the teasing that the child does.
@AndrewKo1218 Well if she feels that the traditional family structure of mother and father is the optimal environment for a child, then does she consider her own situation sub-optimal? And why is she cynical about the motivations of other same-sex couples? Were her and her ex's motivations so perfectly selfless? I still think she's being a hypocrite. It would be like Madonna saying, "Most celebrities who adopt foreign children do so to satisfy their own egos."
@rhino79 Yeah, I'm sure she does feel it's sub-optimal, but she's a lesbian and wanted a child. Conceiving and birthing a child are ultimately selfish acts for anyone, not just gay couples.
@AndrewKo1218 She says "I always opposed the Heather has two mommies idea" right at the beginning of the clip. If a couple wants to spare their child some teasing by not mutually taking the mother title then fine. But curtailing one's motherliness, or trying to be secondary or only fatherly (or whatever she actually means) when they're both inclined to be like the mother is a disservice: a parent not being herself & not giving what she is most disposed to give.

There's a qualitative difference between human sexuality as complex and human sexuality as a completely messed up. Gay couples adopting children or having children through a surrogate will only lead to a mess
The reason anyone would call her predictable is perchance because there's no such thing as new or modern human issues. History merely repreats and echos across time which I believe is the overall point she makes in her writing...
I used to really like her writing but she has become so very boring, predictable and bitter. She has not been able to evolve from her the early 90s thinking; her ideas have become rigid. Camille: please get away from dull political analysis and back to talking about Art and nature - but with an open mind! Alison should grab that boy and run.
A Coulter wannabe? Give me a break. Coulter is a reactionary ultra-right winger. Paglia, on the other hand, has publicly defended pornography, homosexuality, prostitution, transvestism, and sadomasochism.
@chrismanxxx No, obviously YOU don't read her. I have read every single thing she's published except her scene-by-scene analysis of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds".
Defending abstract concepts and fighting for people who are oppressed are two very different things. She is more libertarian than liberal. Ann Coulter works for the conservative movement by being a pop icon with little intellectual foundation. Paglia hides behind the academy to regurgitate reactionary ideas in the name of "shock". Any queer who defends and supports Obama is clearly NOT radical.
@thenewmiLONNIEum Have you actually read her columns? She was having doubts about Obama when this video was posted. I don't have any certain way of knowing, but I doubt she supports him any more.
What I don't get either is her marveling interest in Sarah Palin... good lord, for a woman who has quite the lexicon and verbose, how could she put a box of rocks on such a pedestal?
Palin has no love of art, the english language, proper diction, world knowledge or interest... Anita Hill has more scoring points!
Probably because Sarah Palin is someone that average Americans (working-class folks, not those stuck-up white middle class yuppies) can relate to. Palin is a self-made woman, and very strong. Apparently, her husband (himself a very masculine man) has no trouble seeing her as his equal.
Why are gay men, to Camille, always transfixed on sex? Sometimes she's so damn brilliant, and other times she's just guilty of shamelessly compartmentalizing. Not every gay man is a hedonistic perv swashbuckling in the alleys and primping in the bushes. Some fall deeply in love and anguish when cheated on. She is brilliant, but the mind wanders aimlessly...
I see this aspect of her as a bit sad... it's that infantilism that she most often speaks of that she is now victim to... will she be chasing Britney Spears next?
But I'm sorry, she hails Sarah Palin who has no concept of Art or intellect. She's proving to be more of a victim to a dominatrix than a beer gut is to the Super Bowl.

Sorry that gays aren't "sophisticated" enough for a 62 yo. senior citizen who is running around in Daniela Mercury's entourage in "love" with her. I believe that she really is in love with here. Paglia is just another in a long line of self-loathing lesbians that I am glad are dying off. Can't get rid of these hags soon enough. Always wagging the finger at gays for being childish. It's a good think the black civil rights movement didn't listen to a horses ass like a black Camile Paglia.
Camille Paglia has inspired many responses in me over the years, but this is the first time I've just felt kind of embarrassed for her. What, she's going to give up all the dignity and authority of her latter years to go carry someone else's bongos at Carneval? Doing a little Death in Venice turn, are we? Oh, for cryin' out loud, you want spark, go rub a balloon on your head. Why not just admit that we're not young forever and getting a chin job and running off to Brazil ain't gonna fix that?
Wait, gays thought Obama gave a crap about them? This is the guy that refused to accept the term "gay marriage". Nothing like putting your money behind the wrong horse.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Notice that her argument would apply equally well to mixed race parenting thirty years ago. There's a reason; bigots (like Camiile) used that mixed race parenting is wrong because the children will get teased back then.
friendo, srsly, *those are not stereotypes*. the idea of gay marriage is completely new, completely -- and it has been only, like, fifteen years on gay agenda. in ancient greece and feudal japan, you would have relationships between two men who would be considered superior to those between men and women, but marriage was still something between a man and a woman. srsly, yall forget that marriage was created based on family.
I would hardly call her ignorant. Honest is more like it. She's a very brave woman and a true feminist as far as I am concerned. I'm not surprised at the way her comments are being received. She is one of the few crusaders who speak the truth about the ups and downs of gay relationships, which are usually presented through rose colored glasses. Life is hard enough for children with a father and a mother. People need to get past the idea that some traditional parental roles are indispensible.
I have never seen her interviewed before.. I didn't realize how ignorant she was. It would be funny if it didn't affect so many good people.. how on earth did another person tolerate her for 15 years? Maybe she started 1/2 sane then degenerated.
my first thought, "who is this?" The my second thought was, "why do we care what she thinks?" final thought...."someone stayed with her for 15 years?!?!"
I saw her at the ROM and she was excellent, especially when she started riffing on tangents and taking questions. Why this crusader for the arts isn't doing a Sister Wendy on TV is beyond me...
She is a great writer and a great example of left-wing ideology! Camille it's selfish and arrogant, but is more smart than (a lot) people can understand. Paglia has her weakness, but is brave and is smart .-.

She didn't even finish being Governor. She's a sham.

Dan74NYC 2 years ago
You've got to give her some credit, Dan.
She's one of the ONLY homo-feminists who actually speak SOME truth on that matter.

Oh Final Justice... She use to be MY IDOL!!!!!

Camille is one of the few lesbian feminists that I can stand... Norah Vincent is cool in my book too after reading her book, "Self Made Man"
marcdaddy33 2 years ago
Yeah, that's a book that every woman who considers herself a feminist should read.

Camille Paglia was sometimes so wrong and sometimes so right. Who could have imagined she would end up being just kooky?

Sorry that gays aren't "sophisticated" enough for a 62 yo. senior citizen who is running around in Daniela Mercury's entourage in "love" with her. I believe that she really is in love with here. Paglia is just another in a long line of self-loathing lesbians that I am glad are dying off. Can't get rid of these hags soon enough. Always wagging the finger at gays for being childish. It's a good think the black civil rights movement didn't listen to a horses ass like a black Camile Paglia.

SPREAD THE WORD: 2010 AND 2011 have been declared THE YEAR OF THE MAN. Why 2 years? It will take that long to celebrate our accomplishments.
Tell every woman once
Tell every feminist twice
TELL EVERY LESBIAN THREE TIMES

Notice that her argument would apply equally well to mixed race parenting thirty years ago. There's a reason; bigots (like Camiile) used that mixed race parenting is wrong because the children will get teased back then.
Just fucking die, you hateful old bitch.

Camille is on record as saying gay men should have sex with minors. She's a very sick woman.
Quit thinking with your vagina.

She is Actually crazy since every men and women are different there's gay women that are just for sex as there's men Bonding.
Theres different individuals in the world and she is like using old stereotypes of gay men.
She makes her opiniona based on stereotypes instead of the reality.
But well I let her keep her non sense as she wants to get attention.
Pupuki182 2 years ago
friendo, srsly, *those are not stereotypes*. the idea of gay marriage is completely new, completely -- and it has been only, like, fifteen years on gay agenda. in ancient greece and feudal japan, you would have relationships between two men who would be considered superior to those between men and women, but marriage was still something between a man and a woman. srsly, yall forget that marriage was created based on family.

I'm sorry Ms. Paglia, but the President can in fact multi-task. I want my rights granted now, not a year from now, not six years from now, but now.
This is the prime reason I've never given a dime to the likes of HRC, NGLTF, etc. Until they represent my view they can go pound sand.

People need to get past the idea that some traditional parental roles are indispensible.
oneartygirl 2 years ago 4
I think the last word in your post is meant to be "dispensable"..LOL
Otherwise, you are absolutely correct.

Oh Camille. So sad how truly irrelevant you are. Please just keep your stupid opinions to yourself.

I have never seen her interviewed before.. I didn't realize how ignorant she was. It would be funny if it didn't affect so many good people.. how on earth did another person tolerate her for 15 years? Maybe she started 1/2 sane then degenerated.
