  • @cdub10071 The man in the uniform doesn't own it. I do.

  • VATSIM Controllers do take exams.

  • @pbrew85 I know.

  • must be awful to have that huge cockpit and that tiny screen lol

  • @nigelmtb lol i assumed this was still an on-going project, have you seriously bought that cockpit and not bothered to update the screens?

  • @ryan1111111555555555 It is an ongoing project and I BUILT all of this, not bought it. It's not a case of 'not bothered' - Rome was not built in a day and money is not plentiful.

  • @nigelmtb Lol I know I werent having a go when I said it must be awful, maybe I worded it wrong, what I meant was that it must be a tad frustrating to be so close yet so far, having a beautiful cockpit but not the screens to go with it, can I ask sir, where did you get the parts to build this?

  • where did you got tht uniform??

  • Nigel! I'm training to become a real world pilot! I can't wait! Thanks for helping me a few months back. I'm a pro at this now. :D

  • @diegodaudt Ah, congratulations! I am very jealous...!

  • @nigelmtb Thanks Nigel, you're the best! Did you take part of CTG (Cross the Gulf) a few days ago? (More like yesterday!) I did, I went KMCO --> KMIA.

  • Hi where did you get your headsets from ?

  • @theflightsimkid Amazon - they are made by Plantronics and they are monaural (ie. one ear!) sets. Perfect for this.

  • one question whats a socal please im dieing to know

  • @cantollie324 SELCAL: SELective CALling... selective-calling radio system that can alert an aircraft's crew that a ground radio station wishes to communicate with the aircraft. Mainly used over the Atlantic in VATSIM at any rate...

  • great guys, great video! copilot seems like a really nice man who is in fact the "real" captain!! :)

  • @gogec1 You might be right.... ;)

  • @nigelmtb do you know if its possible to share aircraft on vatsim but from different computers?

  • @gogec1 Hi i recently ordered pilot epaulettes and by acident bout cround crew instead of flight crew do you think this will matter, as i am only dressing upo like yourself ?

  • @theflightsimkid sorry.. I dont get the question?

  • nice video and cockpit setup! hope to someday participate in CTP but I don't have enough time.. hahah. See you in the Spanish Virtual Skies!

    1139836

  • Heads up, when you see e.g. 5945N - 135.5nm 1305'Z'.. you don't say 'Z' you say Zulu because it's Zulu time! Practice makes perfect!

  • Coming from a real world atpl pilot, you guys seem to know what your talking about RT a bit shakey but still good.

  • @mrmantaray Thanks very much! That is a very nice thing to hear (haters take note?) and I am very jealous of you! Who do you fly for?

  • Only suggestion i could make would be to get some big widescreen monitors, the ones you have just dont seem right haha, also the uniform isn't hugely necessary but...why not lol

  • are you a real pilot?

    btw nice video(:

  • wow... just become a real pilot!!! why waste time and money on a game when you obviously have the money to spend on real training

  • @arsenalfeet DO some research. PPL - £5000 minimum. ATPL - £70000, give or take. This project - £2500 and a lot of fun. Plus I get to keep the job I already enjoy. Do you suggest everyone who likes Call of Duty should just fuck off and become soldiers?

  • @nigelmtb i have done lots of research, i know that a APP FO programe is around £87000, i appologise i was negative, not normaly like that. and £2500!, where from :D ( just the other home made cockpit video, the guy spent £74,599 on his project. i asumed yours was that much too)

  • @arsenalfeet Na... I don't have that kind of money - if I did, I would be in pilot school in a heartbeat! All this project was home built on the cheap, but it works. Thanks for posting back - nice to meet someone with an open mind from time to time.

  • @nigelmtb Not that I have anything against simulators, but you can't compare the prices of your simulator and pilot's licenses. A license is an asset, but a simulator is a liability. You've spent money on it, which means even if you sell it, the time, effort and money gone into it wont come back (even if you sold it). A license means you can get a job and in a few years you would have earned maybe 4 times the amount you spent on your license.

  • Very nice! Another dimension to flying Sim :D

  • @JohnyBravoSix Thanks very much! PS - I love Johny Bravo.....!

  • @nigelmtb Haha me too :)

  • How do i make a pilot Vatsim Acount pleas help?

  • @aminor15 Go to Vatsim.net and read all about it there.

  • hi i would like to know where did u get the north atlantic map where u have plotted ur route? is it on the web somewhere or its a payware? thanks

  • @FS0071 I've answered this a few times! Go to planningcharts dot de. You need to register but it's free.

  • where do u get the pilot shirt :O

  • @MrStefanbergmann Its just a white collared shirt......

  • A question, I am bit hesitant on flying on VATSIM due to not being so good, so I normally go in and observe how the pilots speaks with the ATC. Would you care to give any tips for a fresh pilot? I can handle the plane and everything, but it is the ATC communications which kinda keeps me back, though I really want to try!

  • @megrune94 As I said to others below, read the pilot notes on vatsim.net, especially the vatsim.net/prc/prc-genlession/ stuff. It is recommended to log on at a controlled airport, tune and and just listen to the radio for a while. I did this for days before pressing my PTT for the first time. Also, consider joining a virtual airline - most of them are happy to mentor new pilots.

  • @nigelmtb I have read most of it. And as I said in the post over, I tend to go on VATSIM and listen in to the ATC transmissions between pilot and ATC (hence observe), I thought about enlisting in VATCAN's Pilot School, but I don't feel like going that stretch. And a final question, doesn't virtual airlines have requirements for pilots joining?

  • @megrune94 Some VAs do, most do not. Contact some and ask.

  • @megrune94 Read the PRC, it should tell you almost everything. Don't worry we were all like that at once lol

  • Nigel, maybe you could answer my questions. I have been flying xplane for over a year now and can be quite knowledgeable. My dad was a pilot so I have always found an interest with the whole ATC/Pilot system. I would like to be a part of VATSIM but I am not so sure about some things. I have read the help pages and looked at the PRC. But I would like to know if there was an age limit. I'm only 12 but I love aviation. And would I have to sit in front of the computer the entire flight? Especially

  • @zesofter Hello, I understand that a minimum age of 13 is preferred on Vatsim but I don't think anyone will argue with your age. You need to be at or near your computer during the flight, and should answer a controller pretty quickly if they call you. I can't find the figure exactly but I think a supervisor will kick you off if you fail to answer a hail within 20 minutes - much less if you are in busy airspace like JFK or Heathrow! Give it a try, it's lots of fun!

  • @zesofter @nigelmtb I recommend you to wait until ur 13

  • Nigel, sone questions for you. Im interested in vatsim. Can I flight plan to anywhere? (say Houston to Honolulu) also, is fsinn better than squackbox? And, what if ur voice is a bit high? Does it matter? I am 13. And last but not least, do I really have to fly the full flight time? (sitting at the computer for 5 hours when on IFR, but not really applicable for VFR as I can just turn on the gps and go watch tv lol) what do you think? Thanks.

  • @diegodaudt Hi and thanks for the questions. Quite detailed there so I've sent you a PM which I hope is of some help. As I said to CharlieSheen Estevez (possibly not his real name!) below, visit vatsim.net and READ the pilot notes before you go online.

  • @nigelmtb Hi, I didn;t recieve your pm. Can you please send again?

  • Nice vids mate, jus ordered FSX and a joystick for my laptop :') Do you need FSX deluxe for VATSIM? for will the normal version be alright? What else would i need to join VATSIM? thanks

  • @CharlieSheenEstevez Hello! Any version of FS will work with VATSIM - the only other things you need are Squawkbox (just google it) to connect to the network, and ideally a headset or microphone to talk to ATC. The experience is MUCH better with voice. I STRONGLY recommend you visit vatsim.net and read the Pilot notes there, or PM me for help. Always happy to help new pilots along. I adore it!

  • @nigelmtb Thank you so much! Ive been looking at the site and was wondering about the Squawkbox, Ive been playing flight sim for years and love it! Recently flew a Cessna in real life and thats just made me hungry for more lol, Only just discovered VATSIM and cant wait to get going, I best get a headset before I start though :D thanks again

  • jaja enfermos mentales! pagate un curso para ser piloto!

  • thats how my headset is i have the usb one

  • @imontrack21 Works a treat, right? I found that if you go into the audio settings and boost the microphone volume to maximum, you get that nice feedback in your ear so you hear yourself and the other pilot - like in a real aircraft...!

  • @nigelmtb sure do man you guys have facebook?LIke windows 7 does t better

  • do you speed up the sim or is it normal time? nice cockpit BTW

  • @shazam75 Thanks for the comment, and it's all real time. I would not accelerate at any time, but if you are flying on VATSIM you need permission from a controller to do it. I don't think many VATSIM pilots use time acceleration.

  • damm thats a sick cockpit? Where did you buy all of the instruments from?

  • @thegamer1504 All home built, my friend. See my website for more information.

  • Sorry, what is a SELCAL? How do you know witch SELCAL you have to chose? What is a TMI? And how do you receive your oceanic clearence ? Thanks

  • @SpeedBird108 Google it? SELCAL is selective calling for contacting aircraft over the Atlantic by HF radio. TMI refers to the day of the year. You receive oceanic clearance from Shanwick Radio on the east side and Gander Radio on the West side of the Atlantic ocean.

  • @nigelmtb Ok i'lL see what I can do, thanks =D

  • Sorry, what is a SELCAL? How do you know witch SELCAL you have to chose? What is a TMI? And how do you receive your ocianic clearence ? Thanks

  • Great video

Could you just tell me were you got the oceanic chart from, Thanks =D

  • @SpeedBird108 planningcharts dot de

  • @nigelmtb Thanks for the reply, once again : GREAT VID.

Must of taken loads of time to cross the atlantic and planning the flight.

I'm probably going to do it next time, it will be my first time. =D

  • @nigelmtb And do you know any other websites where I can get Europe charts?

    Thanks in advanced =D

  • @SpeedBird108 just google the ICAO code of the airport with charts after it e.g EGLL charts

    look for jeppview link

  • @dannye369 Ok thanks but do you know where I can get a chart with all europe on it?

  • Great video

Could you just tell me were you got the oceanic chart from, Tanks =D

  • Just to say... to get to CTR control on vatsim controllers have to pass many exams... 5 theory exams and 4 practical exams..and they do require quite some knowledge.

  • Hes unreadable. haha. Yeah its part of the reason I fly mostly computer atc and for ultimate coverage. Thats still an awesome series of vids you have. I like the captain here he explains things very well and appears to be enjoying himself quite a bit.

  • Great video! May I ask, what do you use for your FMC? By that Mean what software do you use? Also, what model of touch screen for the FMC? Again great video!

  • @virtualaircanada2458 Hi, thanks for the comments! The software for the FMC is the very same FMC which comes with the Wilco Airbus package, complete with the bugs and flaws inherent in that stupid system! I have considered using the awesome VasFMC but there are issues with the touchscreen. I bought the 8" screen from an eBay shop called b-billion. Very cheap, shipped from Hong Kong. PM me if you want to know more!

  • @nigelmtb Thanks for the reply, and will do! I am also working on an A330 simulator, I have the pedestal, glareshield, and screens set up. It looks great so far, with custom made throttles, but it is of course missing an FCU. What would you recommend in terms of software for the FCU then? Obviously, something without bugs would be greatly appreciated! =)

  • @virtualaircanada2458 I have PMed you.

  • oh my im so jeleous... when i try to get on vatsim it never works :(

  • what a day yesterday!! great job of the cross the pond staff! i was 1 hour ahead of you doin EHAM-CYYZ...the winds at toronto were unbelievable :P

  • Fab day today guys! Well done

  • @FlightEnthusiast2010 Yes it was! we had a smooth flight, new video coming soon! Well done to all the participating pilots and staff.

  • @nigelmtb Yep... Seen you touched down late aswell! hope you enjoyed it. Your cockpit looks brilliant

  • yeah after a 8 hour and 35 mins flight to Detroit metro was amazing by the way Nigel your videos have helped me a lot on the crossing cheers :).

  • im DAL043X Departure LFPG to KCVG Nat E Selcal EQ-AP see you in the sky everybody CPT 2011 :D

  • Just set the computer up on the BIG screen! all ready for CTP this Sunday! now for a test flight...See you all there!

  • @justadroid It's Saturday isn't it?? I'll be flying as EIN075 (0075 maybe) as usual - see you in the skies!

  • @nigelmtb oh yeah, i see ya there on the list, what are you going to be flying? I'm doing EHAM-KCVG PMDG MD-11 QFA8296...first time for CTP....I think ive got everything sorted...no doubt there will be some unexpected hiccups....but i'm sure i'll enjoy it!

  • @justadroid Your first? You'll love it! We are booked on LPPT-KEWR, take off at 1432z. I'm hoping Greg will be with me as usual. PM me in the air if you have any problems - I'm happy to help! Nigel.

  • @nigelmtb Great, thanks mate

  • @nigelmtb me flying EHAM-KEWR as JAT678 HEAVY :) Taking the pmdg 747 for a spin

  • @justadroid me flying EHAM-KEWR as JAT678 HEAVY :) Taking the pmdg 747 for a spin

  • @SavaMarkovicPilot Most excellent...something tells me it's going to be busy out of EHAM! Hopefully Sbox and FSX does the right thing by me :)

  • @justadroid yea. I am haaving FS problems lately. I used to have 100+ fps and now the first second i use a challenging situation (egll, clouds) it drops to 25 fps but it was 100fps a week ago..frustrating

  • @SavaMarkovicPilot Wow 100 FPS..nice.....30fps and I'm doing well! not sure if you already use it ...but i recently got REX 2.0 and found an improvement in my fps...btw...how does pmdg 747 go for frames? is it heavy?

  • @justadroid i use fs2004 btw.

Well you see a drop in FPS in the 747 but ts not huge. Its really upto your pc specs.anyway i subbed, sub back>

    ?

  • how did you connect all the monitors and make them all have a specific panel? Does this work on FSX? -ZLA_MI S2

  • @liberator2365 Hi dude, take a look at my website shamrock075 dot webs dot com. The short answer is I have two dual head graphics cards in the PC and careful use of splitters does the rest. It should work in FSX but the frame hit could be heavy!

  • Awesome video where did you get that home cockpit!!!!!!???? That's sweet!

  • @wmupilot20 Seriously - where did I get it? I built it!

  • Do i sense an Irish accent...? :P I think so :) Great video!!

  • @dizzidrummer95 You do, to be sure to be sure! I am from Ireland (Co. Wicklow to be exact) and only moved to the UK 6 years ago. Thanks for the positive comment...we hope to be flying the next event on 26th March with an operational overhead panel.

  • @nigelmtb Class:D, Im from meath, 26th of march is my birthday :) Cant wait for that video mate.Keep up superb work!! :)

  • @nigelmtb Three more days until cross the pond 2011. hope u record it for fans man. I'll see u in the skys, cheers!!!

  • @tsnoop19 Hi Dude, thanks for the positive comments! Good news - my slot is booked for LPPT to KEWR and yes, there will be a video. I've finally made some updates to the pit! Imagine that?? Update should be up at some point on Sunday.

  • @nigelmtb gr8!! cant wait!

  • do u guys have a nice totorial for airbus FMC?

  • @ManiacalMarlboroMan No I don't - sorry.

  • @nigelmtb Then how did you know how to work that fmc?

    Could u make one?

  • @ManiacalMarlboroMan How did I know how to work it? I read the manual, my firend! A lot of this information is concealed in the books and PDFs that come with the product! The software model is the Wilco feelThere series of Airbus aircraft and they all come with a very detailed manual. Not PMDG standard, but more than adequate all the same.

  • @nigelmtb BTW nice video wish I had a cockpit to fly CTP2011.

  • i want to fly with you

  • WOW I would so want to have a home made cockpit!!! LOOKS REALLY NICE!!!

  • my fsx fatal errors to much for long flights

  • @WackyBroProductions Get FS2004 - FSX is totally over rated......ooh, here come the haters!

  • @nigelmtb Haters?! it's 100 % true!!! :D

  • what sesson are gus guys always on i want to be on ur session

  • @fsxman123456789 We fly on VATSIM.

  • nice cockpit but bad screens

  • @fsxman123456789 TH2Go and three widescreen monitors coming soon...!

  • why you'r buyt much and then 2 shitty monitors

  • @karstenbakker Buyt is not a word and maybe I'm paying for it bit by bit - it's a work in progress.

  • how much did all this cost when finished ?????

  • Hi Nigel...sorry me again, how did you undock the glass diplays from FSX or have you used project magenta?, i am wondereing if i could use a 32" flatscreen tv behind my panel or does it have to be monitors, sorry with the questions im keen but stupid!

  • @entsman50 Probably best to PM me if you have so many questions. Anything you can connect to a PC should work as a monitor. I undocked the way you do in any FS - rightclick the panel, click UNDOCK from the menu, then move it wherever you want it. Remember to save the flight so you don't have to undock every time.

  • Hi Nigel can you point me toward or link for the expansion boards i need between switch and magents ta

  • @entsman50 Probably better to PM me if you have so many questions. leobodnar . com for the boards.

  • nice job nigel, i am using 3 19" monitors with the triple head to go and the track i5 which makes it a fab experienec...now thinking you have spured me on to maybe do a home build 737...what are u using for get glass screens within your set up?

  • @entsman50 Hi, The glass screens are fakes - they are 17" widescreen monitors with the relevant displays undocked onto them. Then I cut out the wooden overlays to place on top, creating the impression of multiple screens as you see here.

  • @nigelmtb thanks Nigel, did you use project manta to assign the displays?

  • @nigelmtb mmm interesting you say undocked? been looking at project magenta panels 799 Euros, also looking at the fsxpand ones, you had any experience with them?...r you using just the 1 pc?....interested to know about the undocking you have done??? ta Paul

  • And i will show you when the cockpit is finished, im now still working on the base structure and the dashboard. I will be a closed cockpit. First i was building a F16 cockpit, but the MS FSX software i was testing was not so good for many screens so i changed the overall plan to X-Plane and a SU30MK. Check my channel to see the progress, tx again michel

  • Hi nigeImtb qeustion im building a SU30MK Cockpit running on X-Plane software, in my home, but i see you have different screens in your cockpit how do you get this to work what addons do you use for this. Because i have two screens in my dashboard and three on to outside view. The two screens are now used to see other traffic in the area (Radar) Im planning to use one screen for radar and the second to see the angle of the plane and such. Pls tell me if your using MS fsx or XPlane. TX

  • change the screen mate

  • loved the video man but i was just woundering were did you get the cokpit from and how long did it take to build

  • @beedanrocks Where did I get it?? I BUILT it! Myself! Still building it, in fact. It's not finished. I spend about a year researching before I cut the first panel in the summer of 2009.

  • @nigelmtb Where did you get the North Atlantic Planning Chart visible at 1:46?

  • @timber71ca It's from planningcharts.de. You need to register, but it's free to do so.

  • @Appleshaz I used to fly for Aer Lingus Virtual, but the owner threatened to close it so I left before he could pull the rug out from under everyone. These days I'm flying independant of any VA.

  • hey i got a question where did you get your charts i woud like to get some but i cant find any understandable ones like your please reply thanks

  • @r63con Erm - GOOGLE??? I generally google the word Jeppview and the ICAO code of the airport I want. Jeppesen charts are great. If that produces nothing, try substituting the word JEppview with Charts.

  • Why at 9:18 is the thrust setting is still set to "CLIMB" i.e. CL on the ECAM Display????

  • @markovicmitchell CL dont means Climb, its only a position in which the auto thrust controls thruttle

  • @Bushuhsh Please see my answer above to add to your info.

  • @markovicmitchell Mr. Bushuhsh is not quite correct. Cl DOES mean Climb - it's the name of the detent on the throttle quadrant where the throttles remain in flight. It does not mean the aircraft is climbing - it's just the indicator that the throttles are correctly set for the autothrust system to control the engines.

I live and breathe the A320.

  • A flying living room... I love it!

interesting hobby you have there, have you flown round the world yet? if not are you intending to?

  • @daothercorner Hey, We have been around the world in two LOOOOONG trips, but not in this cockpit. It will be participating in Worldflight 2010 though...google it for info!

  • Very Very Nice, I have the Saitek rudder pedals also. They're very realistic

  • THAT IS AWESOME!

  • Whens to 2010 Oceanic crossing event?

  • @FSXStuff123 the last one in 2010 is Saturday 30th October :)

  • @FSXStuff123 it's this October, sign-ups will open 1st October at 0000z

  • neat vids. I look forward to the next vid in your flight.

  • you should put ATC on speakers, like real 777s

  • The epaulettes are a little much fellas. Cool setup and all but captain's bars? Really?

  • How much is this cockpit?

  • wow awsome cockpit good job, hey where did you get the oceanic chart?

  • @rafaipod That particular one was posted on the forum of a VA I used to be in. If you register with planningcharts.de you can get them (and some other interesting Oceanic ones) from there. Enjoy! Oh, and thanks for the kind words!

  • Guys this is good!

  • @Gr3harrier Thanks very much! I'm hoping to get the overhead panel installed soon...

  • great, sadly missed the event :( want to have my own homecockpit (767-200ER/300ER) :)

  • WOW how much did this cost you?
