That's a really really bad way of doing rail shots.
I don't know if this is a "lost art" or something, but when I was at the german national pool training camp back in my days, they taught us how to calculate (multiple) bank shots pretty precisely, no guessing or "visualisation" required anymore.
Absolutely phenomenal. It's the palm to the forehead "I should'a figured this out on my own years ago..." kinda thing. I've practiced it now for an hour or so, and the rails look totally different to me now.
