Well you are all wrong.. almost. This segment is from the film "66 Scenes from America" by Danish Director Jørgen Leth. So Leth asked Warhol to do this.. it is not Warhol trying to be clever or anything.. he is just an actor here. Blame Leth if you have to blame anyone
I think the film is speaking, metaphorically, of the Prussian wars against Napoleon and about the idea of mars being colonized by us in a near future. I think Andy was wrong! lol
I think the point of it is that he damn well knew that it was pointless and that people would have turned away if anybody else had made a video of themselves eating a fucking hamburger but when he did it they'd think it was art, so he did it, just because he could!
@PrincessDaisy20001 This act may have seemed odd then, but now people share everything and then some on youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and the likes. I can only imagine what Andy Warhol would do with this new form of communication with the world. Looks like he was way ahead of his time.
@James25H An artist is someone who produces things that people don't need to have but that he – for some reason – thinks it would be a good idea to give them. (Andy Warhol)
@MGMTtime Or we're not really that pretentious. There's no meaning behind this. It's a guy eating a fucking hamburger, regardless from how you look at it. There is no "Mass produced food makes us eat alone and fills us with nonsense" shit. If anything the guy's a great troll.
The only thing I got from this is that Warhol was an extremely self conscious person. He hardly looked directly into the camera.
I did like the slight sexual reference with ketchup bottle, but then again most people have trouble with the bottle so he might've been replicating that.
The lighting was awkward. And I think i might've heard kids yelling in the background. I'm not sure if he planned that or or not.
@metalisback I think he was trying to illustrate the idea of mindfulness and attention to detail. The way he ate the hamburger was kind of meditative and contemplative, as if he were trying to focus merely on the simple everyday action of eating as a way to sort of ground himself, to focus on the present. Sounds silly but thats what i got from it.
@kaleidoscopeeyes9896 omg this is ridiculous this is literally just some guy eating a burger STFU you fuckin cunt! he's a piece of shit this isn't art ...if i uploaded a video of me eating a sandwich you'd turn away within the first 30 sec
Holy Shit. You know I thought burger king was just a mass produced product those fat corporate pigs wanted us to ingest to make us stupid. But after watching the deep intrinsic meaning behind the art of Andy Warhol eating a cheeseburger. I now know that the whopper is a work of art and as soon I as i am finished writing this I am gonna put on my Birkenstocks, hope on my vintage Schwinn bicycle and ride to my local BK and have it My Way!
@g156xb What you see in it...If you're not particularly moved, if you don't feel impressed in any sort of way, if you don't find it aesthetically interesting, thrilling or frightening or anything...Then YOU have the right to say "This doesn't represent or mean anything to me. This is not art to me..." Don't let anyone patronize you on this.
That clearly wasn't a Whopper but a regular Burger King burger (which tastes like shit). There's no way dainty little Andy could have eaten an entire Whopper. And yes, the girly little catsup dipping was a bit unnerving.
maybe this guy was a genius but if you dont think this video is weird, you've been brainwashed. if anyone else filmed themselves eating a whopper, there is no way itd be considered "art."
@whatsaneptune it was considered art bc it was part of his style. have you seen the video of a man sleeping for several hours. that's right, he made a video of a man sleeping. he also video taped what i think was the empire state building... and that was an 8 hour video. it's pop art, it's not strange, it's just andy warhol being andy warhol.
Warhol WAS a retard.
