Amazing. Amen turbokevin...I was lucky enough to see them a couple of times here in Phoenix. Once they opened for Bruce Hornsby and had a decent crowd...but the 2nd time they headlined at a local club and I doubt there were 100 people there.
not what I pictured these fellas looking like... but who the fuck cares? great music. My jazz piano professor told me about these guys and he was right, they are great!
got to hang with these guys after a gig here in Phoenix several years ago. I consider myself fairly astute musically and I have to say this this is agruably the most underated band of it's day. EVERY single player in this band is AMAZING but I have to say that I've NEVER seen a bass player like Oteil....before or since. MIND BLOWING. If this doesn't get you...NOTHING WILL.
ARU is the bomb. Wrap your head around this -- the intro is a guitar melody in a medium-high octave, being echoed one octave down, one eighth note later. Both parts being played at the same time by one guy. Insanely difficult, imminently musical, obviously genius. Jimmy Herring is amazing. Don't think so? Then you don't think. Fuck off.
these guys are incredible!.Anyone know if they toured outside of the US? Kudos to Alex scholnick for recommending them. Whoeever the guitar player is in this line up had me smiling the whole song.
I would pay $100 to be in the nose bleed if they would get back together...I am so sorry I didn't get to see them in concert.. This footage is AWESOME !
@andreagoun - no tonal focus? Really? Every one of the notes he's landing on is in E minor. Only when he shreds, does he plays notes outside the scale. That doesn't make it "no tonal focus". That is to add excitement. If you're listening to any amount of modern jazz fusion, this is pretty standard.
@andreagoun you have no ear for jazz fusion let alone music. Jimmy Herring, the guitar player that you said ruins the whole stuff, he wrote this song.. You must be joking about the whole tonal focus bit. You obviously have no idea what's going on here, or you wouldn't make such uneducated comments.
@WspTN what I like the most of you guys is your passion. I'm sure Jimmy is much more than this, it is obvious from the way he moves while playing. Believe me I do have ears for jazz fusion, I grew up listening to Stanley, Billy, Lenny, Jean Luc, Chick, Al D, John Mc, Jaco,... and their bands.
I take back the "ruins the whole stuff" thing but Jimmy pls don't let your furious inner chase to take over without a fight. I may sound stupid to you but I know what you're doing and I like it.
oh god, forgive him cause he dont know what hes saying.
forgive him also for use google and use the name of the guys in a intimate way just to say he "really listen jazz", after post that ridiculous comment...
forgive him for say that Oteil Burbridge, one of the bests bassists in the world, have "potential"....
cause just who knows what real music is will earn the heavens.
Saw this band many years ago on Halloween night in Boston.. They were just incredible. Too bad 'the masses' don't appreciate the talent and musicianship of bands like this and buy / support pop crap instead.
O'teil?? from Egypt?? & who's this fucking 'home town hero' Jimmy herring?? No from my town. That cunt ROCKS!

No offense people, I think the guitar player ruins the whole stuff. No tonal focus at all.
- Man, you have to listen a lot - you sound like typing "qwerty" on a keyboard.
Bass is good, has dynamics and a lot of potentials.
As for the drummer, for me he is the best reason for their existence.
Keep up guys
