This bill is a disaster. Its only aim is to destroy private insurance industry. Do we not remember what happened when Congress decided everyone who can't afford a home should be in new houses? The same principle applies to any good or service, which healthcare is. To think healthcare is intrinsically different than any other service or good is naive. If you want to talk about economics/inflation, then realistically speaking the only way for the US to survive is to create a new product that will make the world shit itself. Probably a new energy source and applications for it, we need something equivalent of the automobile in the early 20th century. If that doesn't happen, it's game over and super inflation will come our way. As for the ranking, look it up on the W.H.O site, they say there what its based off of.
Its gonna take alot more than a thriving industry, it will take a shift in what we think govt should do. No every speculative bubble has come from this Keynesian idea that inflation can be a positive market force. The subprime crisis was a result of artificially low market rates and the govt deciding they could put poor people in homes. The bubble burst and they are now reinflating with a "homebuyers" tax credit to raise the home prices! To think the government can invest money better than individuals or private groups is naive, look at the corn ethanol debacle! Our entire economy is a charade.
At the same time, I don't trust private companies. They are out there for one thing only, profit. They will do anything they legally can, and illegally sometimes, to make a quick dollar off our well being. Just like private health insurers, they deny people who are more likely to need it. And then they feel like pushing the envelope and denying for crazy reasons, such as domestic violence. Who to trust?
What is profit? I think demonizing profit is insane! I show up to work everyday to make a profit. I went to college to secure my profit making capabilities! Have you never sought profit? Take a monopoly for example, which our health industry sort of is, it can maximize profit to outstanding levels, but it weighs heavily on us. Bush's Medicare Part D had a larger increase to the deficit but I don't hear anyone calling doomsday scenarios about that one. Remind me who the blinded fool is, again.
Much of that $1trillion that was added is attributed to bail outs and stimulus, which were the only ideas that anyone had as to how to stop the free-falling economy. It's very likely that no matter who was in power, those bills would have been passed, so although it happened while Obama was in the WH, I wouldn't attribute that personally to him.

We will always "borrow" money, we signed a contract giving up governmental authority of monetary policy in 1913. We borrow money, we pay interest on money printed.. ie the stimulus' and more in debt to private bankers we go. It is a vicious cycle never to be climbed out of.

Why? Healthcare represents approx. 16% of our G.D.P.. That's significant. If we are to "reform" that much of our economy, then there needs to be support from both political parties.
The fact that the party of no voted against this bill is hardly a mark against it, it is to be expected. They've been pretty much automatically voting against anything with democratic finger prints on it, take Franken's anti-rape amendment to a defense bill for instance. Support from both parties is impossible if the approval by one automatically means the disapproval of the other.
The strange thing is these completely party line votes happen more when one has a near 60 majority, but when the senate is 50-50 more bipartisanship is seen. Strange huh?

Worst idea in history. You can't fund a nation of sick people, people who have children with 50/50 hereditary diseases,etc. The right way is to simply mandate cost measures. You can get any care you "need" and you submit it to single payer to pay the doctor. You are accountable for your "Healthcare Balance", either through federal tax, payroll deductions, estate liens during life and at death(no gifting), etc. If you can pay, you will, if you can't you won't, but you will later if able.

I haven't voted Republican since 2000. I was against bush around 2002. This plan is totally unpaid for as we borrow and raise interest rates to fund anything we do! This bill is a disaster. Its only aim is to destroy private insurance industry. Do we not remember what happened when Congress decided everyone who can't afford a home should be in new houses? The same principle applies to any good or service, which healthcare is. To think healthcare is intrinsically different than any other service or good is naive. 2008 Profit margins were 2-6%. But thats totally irrelevant! Insurers are not the ones charging $250 per suture, yet no one labels hospitals as greedy! The fine for not having ins. is $95 and tops out at $750. Still far cheaper than paying for insurance-and now theres no reason to have it, you can get it when you get sick! Can imagine if this is how home insurance worked? Doctors have rights and when they are considered public servants, their numbers drops and protest happen, such as in France.

If you want to talk about economics/inflation, then realistically speaking the only way for the US to survive is to create a new product that will make the world shit itself. We have inflation and bubbles because of paper money, but Congress needs this expendable money supply to fund things like this bill and wars. We prevent the shift from consumer driven to a production economy with labor laws and trade unions. The bubbles come mainly from lack of knowledge in economics. I'm no expert, but I know enough to say that people don't know what to do with their money, and the only people who profit of investing are hedge managers and owners.They jump in as the GDP goes down, then mutual funds jump in thinking things are changing for the better, it un-does itself, and repeats as the economy gradually gets worse. No every speculative bubble has come from this Keynesian idea that inflation can be a positive market force. The subprime crisis was a result of artificially low market rates and the govt deciding they could put poor people in homes. The bubble burst and they are now reinflating with a "homebuyers" tax credit to raise the home prices! Take a monopoly for example, which our health industry sort of is, it can maximize profit to outstanding levels, but it weighs heavily on us. Much of that $1trillion that was added is attributed to bail outs and stimulus, which were the only ideas that anyone had as to how to stop the free-falling economy. It's very likely that no matter who was in power, those bills would have been passed, so although it happened while Obama was in the WH, I wouldn't attribute that personally to him.
I'm with you though in general. I think that we need to balance the budget and pay down the debt. I just want to do it in other areas (e.g. military)

Our economic problems will never be resolved unless we all understand a basic fundamental policy w/ it.
We will always "borrow" money, we signed a contract giving up governmental authority of monetary policy in 1913. We borrow money, we pay interest on money printed.. ie the stimulus' and more in debt to private bankers we go. It is a vicious cycle never to be climbed out of.

A vote this significant that resulted in only a "party line" vote is a refutation to this health care "reform."
If 100% of republicans voted against this health care bill, then maybe it's time to start over.
Why? Healthcare represents approx. 16% of our G.D.P.. That's significant. If we are to "reform" that much of our economy, then there needs to be support from both political parties.
It's just that simple.

The fact that the party of no voted against this bill is hardly a mark against it, it is to be expected. They've been pretty much automatically voting against anything with democratic finger prints on it, take Franken's anti-rape amendment to a defense bill for instance. Support from both parties is impossible if the approval by one automatically means the disapproval of the other.

At 16% I believe you are being 'conservative', factoring in hidden expenses it is more like 20% or more.
