I can feel sympathy for Uncle Li's family, but it's hard to feel sorry for him since he basically put himself in danger by acting like a thug!

As for Danny, what happened to him is tragic, and yes, him and his friend were probably arrested on site because they were foreign. However, this really has nothing to due with China specifically. He could have gotten a similar sentence in the USA. The self-defense argument is highly subjective, and they can decide you went too far in any country's court.

its very difficult to judge how far is too far, yes its sad that the chineese man died, however Danny Cancian clearly acted in self defence.

What is worrying is the fact that, the Police arrested danny and not the others at the time. Also the fact that Danny lawyer did not have tiem to cross examine any witnesses.

I think the whole trial is a sham, and ultimately I feel sorry for Danny and his family who are just about broke.
