There is a lot of misconception that this is OK partly because so many people were raised this way and they are not committing crimes (or haven't gotten caught for their crimes). The sad thing is so many people do not realize the extent of the damage they have from being treated as this child and the many others who have suffered. It was physical and emotional abuse of a human being. It is amazing how many still condone or write off *** whooping and humiliation (cutting hair, videoing etc) as 'discipline'. This is truly unhealthy on ALL levels. When I consider the 'spare the rod spoil the child' - it is teaching and disciplining another human being is not physically or emotionally terrorizing a child.
