I already saw this movie and remained impresed: two lovers that you never see having sex but making a slow, soft, marvelous introduction to the seduction world. Both leading actors are brilliant, but Maggie Cheung is so beautiful and seductive,. You should even feel her smell. The music of Nat King Cole is perfect.
I saw the title "best part of "in the mood for love" " and knew, before seeing the preview image and before watching the video, exactly which scene you were talking about. The interaction between music and cinematography here is so breathtaking, I had to rewind it several times the first time I watched the movie.
I would say the scene of Tony L. whispering his secret into a hole at Angkar Wat is the best scene. Makes me tear up thinking about it... This is a good scene too. Thanks!
The real stars of this movie were Maggie Cheung's dresses; Gorgeous high collared mini dresses. Tony L is luscious as usual. So much of the movie consists of them just waiting for each other. Luxurious look and texture too. Better than Days of Living Wild. Pretty amazing achievement.
"Love is all a matter of timing. It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.If I'd live in another time or place...my story might have had a very different ending."
I love this movie! It is just incredible. And Tony leung is so great, Maggie too. And the music is so beautiful . I Can't help watching it again and again.
Wong Kar-wai uses music so brilliantly in his movies. Even though music is so evident, it's used to further the film's plots and themes, and it's amazing how music can vocalise feelings so much better than pages and pages of dialogue ever could. This film doesn't feel like a string of music videos, unlike some more recent examples (Sucker Punch), because the film, what you are seeing, is what remains important while the music just fuels it. I LOVE WONG KAR-WAI. Also, Maggie Cheung is beautiful<3
if not the best movie of all time, definitely in the top 5. Also, it´s a shame the melody is detuned in this clip, check the original score to really enjoy the music, believe me, it's worth it
@ThaBauce yes, I compare the two directors 'cause I find them similar and complementary: both use the camera making many movements that allow audience to see matter in a personal perspective. I don't think movies must explain everything and do not necessarily make any sense but have to stimulate your imagination and feelings
Wong Kar Wai vs Lynch: in a way, while Wong Kar Wai always just reaches the corner leaving the audience the chance to imagine, Lynch goes beyound that but still he forces the audience to imagine what and why
Thank you for putting this up!!! It really is the part that stick out in your mind. I was trying to explain this movie to a friend last night and I kept trying to describe this scene. :)

hihi , Thanks for ur comment .. anyway , nice to meet u too : )
When watching the movie a 3rd time I noticed Maggie's character wasn't just a lowly female secretary, but an interpreter since she had an English typewriter on her desk.
As the pizzicato drones on, the suffocating humidity inspissates your faculties, you abruptly stroke down your thigh as the form-fitting 旗袍 uncomfortably clings onto your exhausted being. When you escape from the musky wok haze and ascend those arthritic stairs in each deliberate step, you lament your life caged by a phantom husband and wonder incredulously why a fleeing irrational thought in your head would lead you to believe you were sitting in the dark watching some woman buy congee...
@msa1985 as you may know, they were the discarded spouses with deep longings and an impossible act of timing and cultural restraint. their passing on the stairs and his eating alone a melancholy that evokes the sad trap that they are within
The effect wong kar kai creates, but whats he's doing isn't equally that brilliant, he just adds a lil slowmotion and some (very good) classical music.. he repeats this trick a lil too much in the film I think.. it becomes repatative.. he just the same trick in 2046 as well...
