  • Harry Wappler was the best. You don't see too many like him doing the weather anymore. A very special man but it is a different time I guess these days. Here's hoping his son Andy makes a return some day back to Seattle.

  • Hah!! Fun to discover this clip! I recall earlier days of Eyewitness News (we moved to Seattle in '69, when it was Cliff Kirk (I think) as anchorman; I forget the sports guy (Gandolf, or something?), and Harry Wappler of course. The other networks' weather guys were Ray Ramsey and Bob Cram, as I recall.

Thanks for the fun memories from the REAL Seattle!

  • Harry Wappler was one of Seattle's best weathercasters! I sure do miss him and his folksy way of reprting the weather here in the Puget Sound area.

  • A real surprise to discover this piece of Seattle history on YouTube ! VERY interesting for a native Seattle-ite = me ! Thank (you) !

  • Im confussed... it says this clip is from 1975 but it also says, "Introduced by Gary Justice Susan Hutchison and Harry after a weathercast in 1991." hows that possible?

  • nevermind. i get it now. just didnt watch it long enough.

  • @odeswx "THE CLIP" refers to the video that the three of them introduced after Harry's weathercast in 1991.

  • "Would you please step up here sir" Smash!!! Lmao!

The weather guy is such a good sport being respectful and civil. Man what an entrance! lol

  • That guy was K.I.R.O. tv 7"s weatherman for over 20 years. Now his son has taken over and looks and sounds just like him! lol

  • Ah! Not a replica! This man's voice no offense sounded like a clowns voice I thought JP was the weatherman at first! I thought it was his day job! lol!!

  • This was a long long time ago.

  • At the beginning of the video I was thinking this is gonna be bland but at 1:24-35 was a riot! I wasn't expecting that! Especially that crawl! All weather shows should have that kind of oomph! lol!

  • haha i love JP Patches, but what a dick! hahahahaha

  • Who JP or Harry? hahahaha

  • My name is Attila Wappler from Hungary:)

  • OMG, HARRY!!!!!! I grew up watching his forecasts!!!!

  • I KNOW HIS GRANDSON HE IS IN MY CLASS

  • I'm Lou Guzzo.......

  • Best JP clip ever.

  • We watched these folks every night when I was growing up!

What's up with KIRO messing w/their on-air talent? Gary Justice was awesome. How'd he get "screwed"? I heard that Susan left and filed a lawsuit? They seem to be playing second or third fiddle since then...

  • I remember Gary and a few other local news people appearing a show on channel 9 in the early 90s, about how screwed-up local news coverage is. He got fired shortly after that.

  • Hmm, I found this when doing searches for 'Almost Live'. I understand when KIRO had this whole shakeup back in the 90's. Gary Justice got screwed during that. Gary was a good newsman.

  • i know his grandson

  • when JP said that on stage he mentioned that it was April 1st

  • That is comedy gold! I remember that. Didn't think I'd ever see that bit again. J.P. was the greatest.

  • Love JP and Brakeman Bill who was on KSTW back in the 70s. I remember Gary Justice and John Marler when they did the news together.

  • Harry Wappler, is he the father of Andy Wappler?

  • Yes Harry is Andy's dad.

  • Thanks for the info. BTW, how did you know Harry Wappler is Andy's dad? Also, we Canadaian know KIRO-TV is seen all over Canada via either digital cable or satellite, as are at least four other Seattle stations.

  • I did morning weather at KIRO and also was Harry's back-up on evenings from 1987 to 1995. That was the year Andy was brought on board to join the weather team. I then worked along side Harry in the evenings for 6 months, producing his weathercasts and doing the 11 pm weather myself before I left KIRO-TV for Albuquerque. I know Andy and Harry. Both are fine people, and friends. BTW: I too am a Canadian, from T.O.

  • Well done. Thanks for the info.

  • It is sad that Andy left recently...I grew up watching him and his dad. He was the best. What ever happened to Harry??

  • @rice1056 awesomes i am really excited to meet a kiro 7 worker a lifelong watcher, im gonna miss harry a lot, i hope his son andy comes back or even his son or daughter maybe one dayit is something to look forward too.

  • @rice1056 Thanks again for the info.

  • @rice1056 I didn't know that.

  • if only local news was still fun instead of over use of graphics, the "stormwatch" bogus alerts and how what serious newcasters( HAHAHA) they are now *sigh* back when news was news and not a 5 second sound clip

  • This is truly GREAT! Thank you so much for posting this!

  • I know it's a blooper video about JP Patches, but it reminds me of the good old days.. Gary Justice and John Marler anchors, legendary sportscaster Wayne Cody, and Harry Wappler with weather... There simply was not a better team.. JP is the bomb too. :)

  • Thanks for the memories. This was back when Seattle was still Seattle.

  • I almost forgot about Gary Justice.

  • That is great, and thanks for posting!

I'm a Northwest (Patch's Pal!) girl living way out in Singapore now, so seeing all those old familiar faces takes me back.

What year is that clip from? I notice there is no "Woppler Doppler", just your basic old-time graphics all-around.

Gary & Susan sure do the "Ron Burgundy" thing well, don't they?

  • I heard JP in an interview once, he said he had no idea everything would fall off the board that easily. He was as embarrassed as Harry was.

  • ROFL- Total pwnage by JP on that clip!

  • Harry's got some composure.

  • The graphics were before "News Out Of the Box", but they were no longer calling itself "Eyewitness News", which had disbanded the previous year. KIRO would would return the Eyewitness News TM when it returned as a CBS affiliate in July 1997.
