Went to an all night jam session at the Karekare surf club with all the doors and windows open and sea breeze blowing in. Awesome vibes there. Really is a Magical Place to play music!
I have recently been to Karekare to really feel the vibe there and it has left a huge impression on me. Thank you for making this documentary available.
This is such a cool documentary to get to see. This is one of my favorite CH records and I think it's very underrated. You've gotta love that gorgeous opening track "Kare Kare", plus "Fingers of Love" is so good too.
Thank you so much for posting this! I never even knew it existed, and this is one of my favorite albums of all time - I've always been curious about how and where it was recorded after reading little things about it over the years. The songs remain as haunting as ever. They really picked up some of the power of that landscape.
Me too...I've got a copy of that book myself and that section in the middle of it which goes into a lot of the drama and tension everybody seemed to feel during those months of recording "Together Alone" made for some particularly intense reading. They really worked *hard* on that album--their beach house location at Kare Kare was no vacation!!
What book are you referring to? I've found a couple of bio's on C.H. for sale thru Amazonbooks (USA) at exorbitant collector's prices, although one can easily argue they may be worth it!

Great to watch Hessie's high jinks. He was the soul of the band and its funny bone. Incredible drummer. Sorely missed.

Nah, he's still good. This album is very much the start of his sound as a solo artist I think.

Didn't Jane Campion film 'The Piano' in Kare Kare? If so, you can see how moody the place is. Really lent itself to the movie, too.

The moodier songs on this album are some of the most beautiful songs ever written.
