Hi! Paraovarian cysts are not actually ovarian, they are usually located along side the ovaries or on the fallopian tubes but they are often hard to distinguish from the ovarian cysts. If they are small and don't cause any trouble, they are hard to notice, the only way to do so is with the transvaginal examination. They are often mistaken for ovarion cysts.
These cysts are not so common but do appear. They make 10% of all the masses in the adnexal region(ovaries and tubes)These cysts represent remnants of of the Wolfiaan duct that lies parallelly the upper third of the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes.
The cysts can grow to be very big and to the upper abdomen.Their size & symptoms do not correspond to the hormonal cycle like other ovarian cysts do.Paraovarian cysts may be troublesome because they can tear, bleed, rupture and become infected.
