if you marry and have kids prior to heading to the spire, when you come back your kid will grow up to be 9 (well you would have gone for 10 years... better make up for all those birthday's you missed XP) After you beat the game, if you have another kid it'll take around 20-30 minutes for the kid to grow (they grow up SO fast) don't question such things...

yeah... Oh another thing... if they grow up, there's a chance that they will run off to be big adventurers just like you! (you'll know when you get the quest "the rescue" or you visit your spouse and you find him/her crying) You'll get a letter written by the kid that he/she ran off to fight hobbes and won't come back till she's famous... Obviously the Kid's gonna be captured and you're gonna have to save the little tyke before... well he/she turns into a hobbe... most likely....
