The six-sign is the chinese hand-sign for six. Chinese character for six is liu 六 so if you hold your hand up side down (the two fingers pointing down, the wrist pointing up) it looks pretty much like 六 which means six in Chinese. Same for nine. The finger-hook means jiu 九 for nine. The L would be eight ba 八 in chinese finger-counting (is that a word?) and some others. You can propably google pictures about that - if you care... :P

Just from what my Chinese 101 teacher taught me (she's from Beijing), Chinese merchants/vendors used to use hand symbols for pricing of goods, and six is exactly what you did in the video. 一 - 五 are just like counting to 1－5 with your fingers，六 is what you did in the video, 七 is your thumb/index/middle fingertips touching，八 is what you did for 7 (thumb/index fingers pointed outward like a V)，九 is the index finger like a pirate (arrh)，十 is either a fist, or crossing your fingers like the cross
