Excellent video. Sadly the other side of this story is the large numbers of people who believe they are skeptics but are really just contrarians and deniers. They cherry pick specific studies and data to meet preferred conclusions (another confirmation bias) but because they are going against the currently held view they think they're "skeptics." A true skeptic looks at all the scientific data and questions everything but not to the point of denying obvious truths (e.g. global warming deniers)
I have to admit, I was a little turned off to your video when I saw the title. But I actually liked it. If the skeptics I knew were a little more level-headed, like you, maybe I wouldn't mind them so much
you know what i find amusing? the fact that those who claim i am too close minded to see the subtle workings of the supernatural, often miss the subtle workings (not to mention both beauty and horror) of the very real and natural world
@Kan2209 I like that one too. The theist is forced to admit one of two things: Either their god is unjust (aborigine tribesmen will roast on a spit, with an apple in their mouths, for all eternity), OR that proselytizing is evil.
Benny Hinn is an evil genius. He's got to know that he is full of shit. But the money is to good to admit the truth. There are so many suckers born its a shame not to take their money.
"This philosophical notion that we can somehow discover truths with nothing more than our own feelings or personal experience is, frankly, naive and irresponsible."
@LtModigliani So no one can ever know anything. Belief in Santa Clause or astrology or fairies or even being a member of the flat earth society is perfectly valid and to say otherwise makes you just as bad as all those "religious fanatics". Are you fucking serious? Can your hear yourself talk? Somethings are untrue. Something are testable and falsifiable. Religious claims fit into this category. Why shouldn't they be subjected to scrutiny? Why shouldn't anyone be allowed to speak honestly?
@eNRGy27 Hahahaha... Damn! did I poke a soft spot? It had nothing to do with WHAT he said, but HOW he said it. I believe him. but HOW he said it makes him come across like a "Religious Fanatic"
He talks like he knows better, that is all. If your going to take it as a personal attack, then you have some personal issues you eed to look after.
@LtModigliani No actually he doesn't sound like a fanatic, the point he's simply making is it's irrational and slightly irresponsible to accept something as grand as the supernatural without any evidence to support it. Makes perfect sense to me
@LtModigliani I was replying to your ignorant, illogical, nonsensical comment. How could you possibly infer that I construed that as a personal attack or that you somehow hit a "soft spot" when you weren't even talking to me in the first place? How old are you? Do your parents know you're using their computer? And you still haven't supported your statement that the maker of the video sounded like a religious fanatic. Everything he said was calm, even-handed, and easily supportable.
@eNRGy27 I will answer your question in the order they were asked; First- Because you took it personaly, in thinking that I was attacking his credability. I was not. Then the fact is you came to his defense. How is that not personal? Second- 31 Third- Its all mine. :)
I was not attcking WHAT HE SAID, but HOW HE SAID IT.
When people talk the convay more information than what is being said. Kinda like "Reading between the line."
What is said, i agree with. but how he said it; I dont.
@LtModigliani You've yet again managed to type a reply without responding to one of my points. Here's your last shot- A personal attack would necessitate you knowing something about me. How could you attack me personally, much less have me take it personally, when you don't know me? Second, I know you attacked how he said it you fucking retard. Read my last comment again. See the words "sounded fanatic", "calm", "even-handed"? You still haven't supported your statement that he sounded fanatic.
@eNRGy27 There is a point where no one can reach in getting through to someone elses point of view. Because the other person just cant see what you see. Maybe its you, or maybe its me. But I know when beating a dead horse becomes pointless. You will never understand why I said what I said, and I will never get you to understand. And vice-versa. Just stay on your side of the universe and I will stay on mine.
Good video. When the pious cannot actually prove the existence of their gods, the claim from personal experience is usually their last ditch effort. When an atheist cannot match this experience, the religious mind will challenge him to open up. Of course this fails, and when it does, the delusional views this as a validation of their diety. I cannot imagine having such a mind as this. I must be blissfull. Sad, so sad.
@FlyingFree333 I've seen both the 20,000 and the 38,000 Christian sect estimates. I decided to be charitable. I only needed 20,000 to make my point. : )
What amazes me is I have access to over 250 TV channels. I have easy internet access. I have newspapers and magazines. I have a local library. Then some nut job Christian claims that Noah's Ark has been found. Does he not think I will go and research his "claim?"
@flyingfisbeefilms "Then some nut job Christian claims that Noah's Ark has been found."
Well lets be honest about it : first con-artists fabricate "evidence"...then nutjobs call it real.
Audio recordings from hell, pieces of Noah's ark, the shroud of turin, self-inflicted stigmatas, "visions and dreams", meteorites declared pieces broken off heaven, word-play to make prophesies sound true...etc...etc...etc...
Religions survive on fabricated bullshit presented as "verifiable truth".
Having grown up in a home where I was free form religion I saw no evidence of a god. Unfortunately this same home provided me a great deal of emotional and physical abuse. Living in in America, I was obviously aware that most of my countrymen did have a belief in an all powerful, all knowing, caring deity. Tormented beyond my ability to cope, I sought out this god and begged him to help me. I spent my nights crying and pleading with him to show me mercy. No answer = no god. Is a child unworthy?
They always say you have to look into religion with sincerity. What they mean by that is you already have to believe, or at least want to believe. If it's true, there's no reason it shouldn't stand up to critical scrutiny.
Admitting ignorance is perfectly honorable. Claiming knowledge due to an over-abundance of ignorance is shameful. With no coherent definition or ontology for 'god' there is no argument to be made.
For whatever reason I tend to reiterate the message of videos I agree with in the comment section.
"Opening" your mind to nonsense is not intelligent. It often closes your mind to other things of more value, namely reason. Thus believing in things which cannot be sufficiently demonstrated is not a virtue of open mindedness. Many beliefs that one claims if rejected makes one close minded, are those that are not compatible with learning, or with observable reality ie scientific facts.
Your videos are very clever and entertaining too.

Closed-minded being a rejection of new evidence and claims. Which by definition is the Religious community.
A Skeptic demands evidence which is the filter for the open mind.
Vynjira 1 year ago
We have to WAIT for evidence!?! But I want it now! Pshhhht, I can get a good 'feel' of knowledge by intuition and supernatural ideas.
