to me this guitar sounds freaking great, they are only £340 notes, and the Beatles used one for a long time, they don't use naff gear in the Beatles period, these sound great for clean tones, and have some bite as well
What a clear sound! Treble's vibrant while bass sounds exact. The mid is almost silent, which brings a terrific EQ sound.
But, I find odd that my Diamond Logo pickup original from the 60's has a very middy sound almost voice-like as the PAF Pro. I have inverted the soldering of the pickup and heard it quite "nasal", I inverted it again and the sound was confirmed: voice-like, not so clear as in this video. It's on the bridge of a Fender MIJ 1989.
Great guitar! I am very proud to own it. I did switch out the bridge and tuners to regular chrome ones and switched the knobs to the "tea cups". Works and sounds amazing!
@hofner96 he probably bought it online only to discover it just wasn't "for him" when it arrived. that's the reason i don't recommend buying guitars online - you really never know what you're getting until it arrives.
@IAreHolly I can't really put my finger on it.. I love the look of the guitar, but for some reason it just doesn't feel great to play.. I've got a Gretsch now though so not to worry :)
Besides, these might be worth a bit in the future seeing as they're not very common, but being made in China they're not as good as a real original..
I was thinking about getting one of these as they are on sale at musician's Friend right now. This is the semi-hollow right? I really like the shape of this guitar. I also really like how the, whatever the thing holding the strings at the end looks.
Bought this guitar, same finish. This clip doesn't do it any justice. I bought mine brand new, few issues with the finish such as it was poorly done as this guitar is made in China. But this guitar is my favourite, I've got Les Pauls, Strats and the rest but this is my first choice. Advice, buy this, now. It's got some tasty tones, the neck pick-up is truly amazing, you can get very Hendrix-y tones that just melt!! The tones are crazy, this video is pretty poor, doesn't give it a 'real' look!!
@usojas1 I reckon you probably could if you wanted but they're not really needed. The bridge pickups is really aggressive. I don't really want a guitar with standard humbuckers now.
You have to watch out, this guitar has black knobs, a bridge that drills into the body like on a les paul, and 2 dots on the twelth fret.. but most of the ones for sale are a cheaper version with cheap machine heads, 3 dots on the 12th fret, and cream knobs.
Also I don't think the cheap ones have a nice back to them like the one here.
I've seen this guitar a few times at a guitarcentre but I never dared to pick it up and try it as I've been there with my bandmates... I mean trying a guitar like that would be like telling our bassplayer (big Metallica fan) that we're gonna play Beatles covers from now on. But it seems like a nice, different guitar. I wonder if it can handle dirtier sounds without feedbacking to much.
Oh dear. when you demo a guitar here on youtube, you should go through the pickups. I´m thinking of buying this guitar but i want to hear how all the pickups as anyone would if you´re buying a guitar.

what the heck is a Hofner IIJ-5? Anyone? I know it is an archtop, very heavy and very thin, but I can find no reference to it - none.

Check out one of my videos where I use mine on a distortion setting, it's very surprising how powerful those pickups are.. like REALLY powerful.

@Blompcube try Gruhn Guitars Nashville or 12th Fret Toronto - both are reputable and good people.

No way to sell a guitar... clean sounds are thin and lifeless. Definitely sounds better in real life...

@Nekroguitar
Not really sure the 13th fret inlay has much to do with sound quality or playability...
jackofwack 1 year ago
@jackofwack
No, but apparently the ones with 3 dots aren't as high quality, because of the other cheaper features

@glockdoc I thought that too, but it's just because he has the treble switch and the bass switch off.

Sounds WAY too light and twangy for humbuckers. Could you please make another quick demo going through the pickups and settings?
