  • Much better then inshitshion

  • As far as I am concerned this is the must underrated movie of all time! Every actor/actress was perfect for their roles, and the story(though very different from the book)is brilliant.I was very disappointed that it was not nominated for best picture that year, though it was a strong field that year.

  • can't wait until his next film, "Gravity". It's going to be amazing!

  • without michael caine this film would be a damn lot less...

  • When people as me what my favorite movie is, I say "Children of Men" without thinking, and then walk away and have a piss.

  • I can do long takes. In bed.

  • MAAANN I wanna see this!

  • @LonexRiderxgamer

It takes a couple viewings to really make its fullest impression, but still a great piece of contemporary science fiction.

  • Why didn't they talk about the long take in the uprising scene. That scene was ridiculous. All the explosions, tanks, trucks, extras shooting ak's, everything, was so perfectly timed in that scene. I wanna see how they did it.

  • @TheQuiZNoKid 3 different really difficult long shots, edited together to look like one fluid scene, it was still very hard to film and tooks weeks of practice

  • Самый любимый фильм, навсегда!! Спасибо за него, у меня нет слов.

  • AMAZING shot. I cant really describe it without restating what all the other comments are saying

  • AMAZING. one of the best sci-fi movies ive ever seen

  • Bizarrely the best film oscar went to The Departed that year .... while it was good it was really just another Scorcese flick....

This didnt win a damn thing which shows the ignorance of the Hollywood selection panel, although to be fair Pans Labyrinth clocked up a few awards, so they do have a lok outside the box now and again....

  • Cuaron is the Merlin of long takes (esp the second to last scene where the soldiers see the baby and everyone just stops and lets them through). he is one of those director's that, even if he doesn't use any CGI, you still want to see the movie in theaters cause it's such a visual spectacle on its own.

  • THIS FILM SHOULD BE ALWAYS IN THE SCREEN. INSTRUCTIVE FOR EVERYBODY.

  • This movie suck!!!!

The best movies of 2006 were meet the spartans and scary movie 4

  • @GaryEire1 lol u must be joking, those 2 were on the top worse list...

  • @GaryEire1 best troll

  • @mapmonster

    lolz obviously

  • Uninterupted shooting of footage is the hardest thing to do... the longer the shot is uninterupted, the harder it is to accomplish, exponentialy...

    This movie is a masterpiece.

  • I would have loved to be on this set.

  • Is he making another movie or what.. He is my favorite Spanish Director ever!!!

  • @samuraiyao He's Mexican, man

  • @AbbeyRoadFortyLicks

Hahhah, thanks for the correction, I told my buddy that the other day and he too corrected me telling he is Mexican...

  • Unbelievable

  • Alfonso's accent is funny, but what a great film lol

  • @fullclip16117 Cause he's Mexican. Another great director from the Mexican tequila gang. Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Inarritu too.

  • Why on earth would they use a Fiat fucking Multipla?

  • great work....director took great amount of risk.....

and did it well.....i really enjoyed these scenes in the movie......enjoyed more the making of them.........

  • great movie. totally ahead of its time.

  • Alfonso Cuarón and Emmanuel Lubezki FTW!

  • I loved the long takes, it made the movie so realistic and intense :)

  • All that effort and all ruined by some actor who still didn't get that people don't wiggle the steering wheel left and right when driving straight. :D

  • Oh lol i never noticed that before.

  • Hey Filmmaker - thank you for this excellent post.

  • what about the battle scene in the refugee town? They should of explained how they pulled it off so well :/

  • @tiger1chu Yeah the long take during the town siege was the longest of the movie. I wanted to hear about that one. I also wanted to know if the blood spatter on the camera was actually CGI blood, since it vanished during the take.

  • @MewmewMeower Oh I just read that it was actually a few long takes stitched together in a way that is hard to notice, and that's why the blood actually vanishes. It looks like it's one take but they stitched pretty long takes together to look like one giant one. Still pretty good tho.

  • @MewmewMeower No, it was from the squib of some bystander who got shot in the shoulder. They were originally going to digitally edit it out but left it in to enhance the randomness of the film. It's mentioned on the DVD commentary.

  • Cuaron! Best movie ever made.

  • The long takes in this movie make it very real. It's amazing.

  • Russian Ark is a movie that was all one single shot. the movie went for 99 minutes long and was all one continual shot! amazing! and it only took 2 takes to get it, but years perfect its choreography!!!

  • hitchcock did it with only one (altough there were two hidden cuts). The movie is Rope.

  • Actually, there are ten cuts in rope, as back then a film reel could only hold ten minutes of film, so each reel ended on something blank that took up the entire screen so they could easily start shoot again

  • this movie should have won atleast 2 ocars!!

a film this amazing, and putting this much effort into making is just ridiculous and should have won Oscars.

this is Filmmaking at its best, and it would have been an Honor to have worked on this film, working as a PA would have even been a HUGE PLEASURE, or even an extra.

    just truly and amazing Film.

  • Hell this movie is so good, I feel honored just by being able to watch it.

  • Good job and welcome to our show

  • Greatest Movie Ever

  • Soooo badass.

Incredible, don't think anyone can top that for a shit long time.

    Soooo fucking badass.

  • @crazyherodus wait till his next movie comes out. Hes boasting a 20 minute take for the opening.

  • is this movie on blu-ray? I have it on dvd already

  • It's on Blu-ray now and it looks PHENOMINAL! The movie is mindblowing and the look and feel to is is incredible. HIGHLY recommend picking it up on blu-ray

  • one of the best movies of the past couple of years. awesome!

  • I am amazed and almost as to how car scence was filmed. Its so flawless as when you see the final cut..

  • This is how filmmaking continues to evolve through time. Its really a lot of hardwork to get a particularly short scene.

  • I hope the cinematography of the movie will inspire many future filmmakers. The scenes were really breathtaking

  • I love this film

  • ENG-331 click here---> 1:16

  • Genius direction from Alfonso Cuaron

  • You said it: genius... I don't rate Children of Men's story though I think if this director did a war film it could be one of the greatest ever.

  • Give Cuaron a gold medal for this.

  • what i want to know now is how they got the camera outside the car at the end of that forest ambush scene. like when the driver gets out of the car to shoot the police officers and Theo gets out to investigate and is told to get back inside the car and they drive off down the road while the camera man is left to film them drive away.

how did they do that when the car seemed to have so much equipment on it and still keep it in the same scene?

  • very clever editing.

  • Probably their wasnt a cameraman inside the vehicle, maybe thier was a camera with some type of wheel mechanism that could be moved around.

  • This movie was fucking incredable. I had to watch it a few times to fully understand it.

  • Why should it have a happy ending? FFS the film (Hate the dame word "Movie") does not have a happy ending because it does not need one. The story is not a feel-good tail so to drop a pink-and-fluffy-lets-please-the-bloody-yanks ending on it would turn it from a work of art into just another waste of a talented writers work.

What is up with people always wanting the white hat to win the girl, and the bad guys to die in the final reel? Sheesh!

  • As a yank, I don't need pleasant feelings or happy endings to enjoy a great film.

I take offense to your casual stereotype.

  • I don't think he meant offence dude, Americans make great movies anyway.

  • that would have actually been a terrible ending.

  • Go make a better one then.

    Oh wait, you can't.

  • The camera work in this film is indeed amazing, the one car scene that was shown at the beginning of this youtube video almost had me feeling like I was playing a video game when I first saw the movie.

  • One of the best movie I've ever seen.

  • that was an amasing ending!

  • I thought his name was Theo

  • you be controlle longtake.let's playyyyyy.

  • It was a great movie, no doubt.

  • the ending was a bit naff...it didnt really dilver much and it had alot of questions unanswered but i love this film the cinamantography is amazing....its a very realistic veiw of the feature and its actually quite depressing....lolz it has its quirky moments in it to

  • The long takes are amazing, the cinematography is amazing, this movie is amazing.

    --------------------------------------------

If your interested in cinema have a look at my profile where i keep a collection of awesome shortfilms on youtube

  • What is the longest take in the film? Cuaron mentions one being about nine minutes; I believe that the uprising scene is...six minutes? Or more?

  • To all people who thought the ending sucked, What else did you want? What do you think happened... What did you want to see?

  • Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth are the best two movies in a long time.

  • One of the most plausible visions of the future. Good film.

  • One of the best book I ever read, a great and real story and a wonderful movie. Book is better, it finishes in a more real way. book talks about more about omega generation, a violent generation who will get old alone and without a following generation.....

  • this movie was quite good on every level (acting, writing, and especially camera work) but i have to say that the ending was shit. no excuse for it really just a poorly done ending period. its a shame because a good ending might have made it a classic because besides that it was excellent

  • Why do you think the ending was bad???

  • How was it over hyped?!

It was underhyped if you ask me. There was no publicity for it and it did badly at the box office because nobody knew about it

  • i know wtf

i always hear people talk about how they saw some crappy movie then i ask if they saw children of men

and they go "whats that. it sounds like it sucks"

it is starting to piss me off

  • This movie is a classic and snackpimper is not even original. Laugh at that.

  • Everyone look at the comments on snackpimper's profile!! Just shows how hated you are kid, i mean honestly do you have one single friend?

  • ...and it's clear you(snackpimper... LOL) don't know jack shit about film making, because if you did you would have enough sense to look and appreciate what work it took to make such long, fluid scenes in single takesas this film did!! NO movie has accomplished what Children of Men has, and with such a low budget!! Go jack off to World of War Craft or get a life! You choose.

  • guys, why bother with such a low life form, such as snackpimper(by the way you expect people to take you seriously as a knowledgeable human being with a name like that!?!?!)that doesn't know anything about what he's talking about? If he knew anything he would know that this movie is independent, and barley got advertised, and for an indie flick this movie is as good as they can possibly get! Go crawl back into your hole you scum.

  • No really, I honestly do believe this is the worst film ever to have been made, since motion picture began. I've never seen so many film-goers walk out halfway through a movie but I suppose that explains why it flopped at the box office. My views seem to have upset a hardcore of CoM fans on YouTube but I don't want people to suffer the same disappointment, anger and waste of time/money that I went through.

  • Haha you actually go around on all CoM videos XD. I pity you.

  • the first two minutes of this movie hooked me. i love the long takes, especially with action sequences. one of my favorites.

  • most of the parts from the movie where short in my home town so i was on extras hahah here i come but nothing to brag about

  • amazing fucking movie! the cast was great too! i couldn't stop thinking about it even days after i saw it. thats how you know its good lol. personally i think the gypsy lady was the coolest, the scene where she beats the shit outa the guy hahaha greatness. but seriously everything about this movie was great. it felt so real and the scenes in this movie were so powerful. like the scene with them in the building with the baby crying. it was just amazing. deff my favorite movie!

  • Makes editing easier

    what an amazing movie

  • This is what special effects should be used for!

  • Anybody noticed that the logo is almost a clone of Heroes logo?

  • i think all those who say that movie was not worth it, dont understand the true art of filmmaking and do not understand the allegory and symbolism present in almost every shot of the film..

So all the pimpheads who seriously think that this movie was worthless, should do some serious soul searching..because if people like films like SNAKES ON PLANES..then just shows for their taste

  • No one went to see SoaP. That is what the joke ammounted to...

  • I'm simply impressed that they pulled it off at all. The way in which that scene in the car was made was utterly flawless; the length, the music playing in the background, the abrupt death of a supporting character (I expected her to be in most of the movie, but no). The first time I watched, I didn't even realize just what they had done, but I liked it. The second time I realized and was shocked. This is possibly my favorite movie of all time.

  • I liked this movie very much. My gf didn't. We didn't argue over it. Calm down, people. Jeez.

  • I'm sorry but if you people don't work in this industry or understand anything about cameras, then you couldn't possibly understand how incredible these long takes were.

  • I want my car to have that kind of rig. Mannnn.

  • Gee, what's wrong with SnackPimper... how is telling people they suck because they like a movie that he doesn't like, in any way constructive? Saying that anyone who is impressed by this film is an idiot? What? Children of Men isn't to everyone's tastes and the quality of the plot and script is questionable, but anyone with an ounce of film knowledge will know that this movie is carefully and beautifully designed and filmed and perhaps the most daring film embarkation of the century so far.

  • Children of Men is incoherent, unconvincing, unoriginal, boring and pretentious, with little to offer other than politically correct propaganda and an obligatory rainbow assortment of minorities in every frame. While it may appeal to left-wing day dreamers and easily impressed teenagers, to anyone with an ounce of intelligence it soon becomes apparent that this a very bad movie.

  • You're an unintelligent asshole.

  • incorrect.

  • so wrong

  • Look the reason it was not a massive success is because there was no marketing campaign, deliberately. This is not a film about hype, but about the content. This will be a classic film in years to come and is really fantastic to anyone with an open imagination in relation to social politics relevant today. All you haters really need to at least try to understand the concept imo.

  • You are giving a lot of credit to a very bad movie. Children of Men is a movie of no real significance, with no beginning, no ending and nothing important to say. It bombed at the box office, not even earning enough to cover its production budget. The fact that you are impressed by this turkey of a movie clearly demonstrates that you are an idiot. Like the movie, you suck.

  • Tricky language and an excelent final argument. Telling people they suck is the way to go. SnackPimper is the winner outright. Next subject: Crash vs. Brokeback Mountain.

  • So what's your type of movie... Snakes on a Plane? Grow up. The fact that you think this movie has nothing to say, clearly shows that you are either: 1. blind to whats really going on in this world 2. know whats going on in this world but subscribes to the republican 'new nazi' way of thinking (censorship and book burning) or 3. you're a plain old idiot. You can not like a movie, fine, but get your fucking facts straight.

  • You have to be on a bad trip of shrooms to say this movie was bad you pathetic prick, you oviusly have no idea about the art of cinima and filming and how it works and what it takes to make a good story. This movie was revolutionary, in years film schools will look on this film to see how a movie should be filmed. it has perfect contast, transistion, everything. this is the new citizens kane.

  • I don't know how these people have got the nerve to show their faces after making such a bad film. Don't they have any shame?

  • You must be talking about a different movie. Or you're just dumber than a sack of dog crap.

  • this is a greaT film! thanks

  • brilliant. :D

  • they didn't explain anything... they didn't even say that it wasn't all one take. the final sequence was 5 takes blended, the opening shot was 2 takes blended, the car sequence was 6 takes blended.. etc etc! Very crappy for the visual effects people to get no credit.

  • Who ever sais this movie sucks must either not get the moral or are just mentaly retarted il tell you for them retarted dick heads out there...hummh GOD IS PISSED AT US... there you go

  • Great film. Thanks for posting.

  • This movie is incredible; some people are too dumb to understand it

  • The movie is brilliant - masterfully shot, deep and provoking.

  • What an innovative look for a film. This film hooks you viscerally, and you don't even realize the intracacy of those takes, which is a true testement as to how well they were orchestrated.

  • i hope that this is not used in harry potter because it will be stupid to 360 on a broom stick

  • What a shame that Clive Owen's unconvincing acting ruins both shots. (and the guy driving the car is turning the wheel out of sync with the car's movement.. Maybe that's a tip of the hat to 1940's movies.)

  • It's an absolute travesty that this film didn't win best Cinematography. Pan's Labyrinth was cool, but it doesn't match this.

  • If they'd put half that much effort into writing the script, they would have had a good movie.

  • The script rocks you dick, and it's based on a book anyway.

  • are you kidding? :/

  • what an idiot. fuckin awesome as script, u jsut one of those idiots who needs movies full of explosions and actions, and cant understand a real good movie

  • Yet, this movie had TONS of weapons, explosions, shooting, and more explosion... Not the best, but ok.
