Do you use a pot cozy? I was under the impression you need a cozy to rehydrate/cook in bags. But if that's not the case, awesome, I don't have to make one :-P.
@captaincompost123 - I've never used a cozy and it seems to work fine for me. It would probably rehydrate faster in a cozy but I don't think they are necessary
@captaincompost123 You don't need a cozy for any of those types of re-hydration kits but if it's cold outside I would recommend you insulate the bag or you may end up with lukewarm semi re-hydrated food. I just use my clothes dirty or otherwise, I have a climbing buddy that buys the MRE heaters (just the heater) drops it in the bag stick the bag in his jacket, gets him nice and warm also and he doesn't need to bother with a cookstove halfway up a cliffside.
I cooked one up on the Appalachian Trail last year and had everyone asking what the heck was I eating that smelled so good! Haa! Tasty tasty yum, om nom nom...good
I love white rice for backpacking I carry a large water bottle full of it, and then just get things like jerky or spam or those sealed salmon packs and mix it with some gravy and rice then you have a good lunch or dinner
good one and minimizes dishes to wash!

Do you taste the plastic it all? Seems like a good idea.

@augustwest710ash - I haven't noticed any change in taste when letting it hydrate in the bag. I only use the heavy-duty freezer type ziplock bags.

Nice change for breakfast in the field. Warmly, Laurie (who thinks you have a grr-eat voice...you could be in radio)
