  • A lot of monitors suffer from failed SC5705 transistors, others from bad caps.

  • @rhblakeman oops SC5707 (typo)

  • hi great video,, my philips 42" lcd has stop receiving an HDMI signal from both ports ive been told that its the main board thats at fault and will need replacing or fixing,, im pretty good at circuit repair but was wondering if you might know which part of the main board thats at fault,, cheers

  • @lennypen1978 Some TVs have a separate board with all the input ports often called the jack pack. It could be a bad component on this board but I don't know for sure.

  • @GrantsPassTVRepairs yes my tv has this separate board,, i thought this was called the main board, it looks like the most complex one of all of them and its what all the imput connections plug into,, ive had a look at it and cant seem to find anything at fault, if i post you the make and model could you please tell me the best place to find the parts i need to fix it,, thanks :O)

  • Dave would it be possible to take the plugins from a tv inverter board to the backlights from another tv and hook up an external backlight to see if it was the transformer or backlight? If so how would you connect the plug to your external light?

  • @chevy56123

If you mean to add extension wires from the inverter board output from one TV to the other TV just to see if your back lights are working I would think it might be okay but I have never done it that way. Sometimes I do this with an external transformer just to see if my back lights are okay, but you can't always tell if you back lights are okay when looking at the front of the display because of the polarized lenses on the display so I momentarily tap the screen when doing this

  • sup man i have a 32'' westinghouse lcd tv and frecently the screen will g blank and the sound too but the tv power will stay on it does not go in standby mode. and it wll not come back on till i rest it for about a week or so. it will work fine for ablout a month if am lucky then will go out again. what do you think?

  • tip3055 works awsome in place of the original transistors in that benq/dell monitor. ive worked on dozens. and actually ran into 2 of them i had to change out all 4 cathodes.. not cheap....

  • @THEtechknight Thank you for the info on the transistor sub. I can see by your comments you have a good eye for detail and a great memory as well.

  • Las lamparas ccfl que Aparecen negras por una parte lateral quieren decir que estan mal?

  • Your videos are extremely informative! Could you consider the idea of making a video that has to do with the testing of main electronic components? IE: various capacitors, various resistors, transformers, inductors, various transistors, voltage regulators, bridge rectifiers, power ic,opto-isolators, various diodes, varisistor, thermosistors, etc...Thanks! Keep up the good work!

  • @HottCaliGuy13 I have thought about making a video on testing electronic components but because I'm attempting to sell a book which has all this information I have limited my videos to mostly the basics.

  • Excellent videos... I watched them all. I just started fixing all the LCD monitors that my work tosses... big waste of money! Some I find easy to fix (power supplies) others are out of my reach (inverters). I've looked at replacement inverters, but they are usually $70 and up... usually can find a new monitor on sale with warranty for about the same... any suggestions? Is the ebook helpful there?

Thanks again for all the wonderful info... keep them coming!

  • @billyshears666 Sometimes they are not worth fixing as you are finding out. This is why I am now saving many of the old parts. I did find the ebooks on LCD repair and power supplies helpful but like any new subject they still require lots of study time. There were some parts of the ebooks I found to be a to complicated but other sections were just fine. As far as I know the books I listed on LCD TV repair are the only ones available other than factory manuals and those can be real difficult.

  • thanks for the video. looking forward to see more :)

  • Thanks for the vid Dave, I only have a multimeter can I do a Coil test with this? And tell me when I look on an Inverter board and see a bad coil can I try and take it out and replace it with another coil, I have a crt monitor lying in my room, what is the major fault on inverter boards some say its the coil

  • @cristoretornebiblia

Yes you can test a coil for shorts using an ohm meter but the ring tester I demonstrated sends pulses of energy into the coil and monitors how many times it oscillates or rings after each pulse. This can help you pick up problems that might not be detectable using an ohm meter. You can replace the coil on the inverter board but sometimes it's hard to find the part. Did you watch my video where I talked about this?
