I was born in Stephenville on Harmon USAFB in 1951, then we moved to St. Johns where my Sister was born in 1956. I loved the Rock and the people were great. I will be riding my harley around the Island next summer. I remember fishing for Cod at The Gut !! Oh Yeah, I love the song Brother. I toured with Johnny Winter & Edgar Winter in the early 70's, TIN HOUSE is the name of my band. We're on YouTube.
God dammit I threw something good away without even realizing it - I used to live there. I wish the fellow I was with could realize how sorry I actually am. I miss him to this day.
Ah geez bah, that's only one part of the rock, should have been round the coast or somtin like that, you get da real feel for newfies then, where do u think the kindness and hospitality originated from
Coming from St. John's and having walked that entire trail; I applaud him for showing a refreshing perspective on the downtown visual. So what, if McDonald Drive or Avalon Mall is not shown, it's understood that's not the entire city. As for bay vs townie, enough! This gentleman visited St. John's and he's sharing his experiences. Thank you ... I loved it!!!
Nice video but it would be better that when people make these videos on St.John's or take pictures to also include the more "modern" parts of the city. I know plenty of people here on the mainland that think all us newfies live in old houses built on the sides of cliffs or think St.John's consists only of the old downtown and old row houses. When promoting St.John's, or any other part of Nfld, to show the modern neighborhoods and new homes etc etc...and we have malls.
@macleanstudio True , i live in Conception Bay south in Nl and i like it alot more around the bay ... it gives you the reall look at newfoundlands rugged coast and great heritage
@spiddeer Stop being such a sook. Dont worry, the people of St.Johns dont hate you, your just miserable because you live in the middle of fuckin nowhere!
@spiddeer No we don't. But try living in a place with 180,000 people only to visit the next biggest town of CB maybe and only see 25,000. I think you'll find most townies respect the bay, but if you're not from there and it's not what you're used to, then why love it? Plus who said so, why did you feel the need to say that. Just creates more animosity.
"Ugh, St. John's is a hole...... But I love it." The opinion of almost everyone who lives in that city, including me! I think it's the spiderweb pattern of paved goat path roads that messes with our minds. Gotta love "town" though.
Hello Macleanstudio, I came across your walking tour of St. Johns and I think it is great. The great footage and music would make it a great contribution to the Canada’s Got Treasures collection, which aims to feature Canadian videos of personal or cultural significance. Help celebrate Canadian diversity by joining our group (/group/TresorTreasure) and submitting your video. It would be made available on our channel and website.
@jhughes420 I know you must have the answer but its 180,000. Plus use wikipedia, or google, to answer a question, it's wonderful. Not using youtube, hoping someone repsonds, then hoping they give the corret info.
Hey everyone if you like this you might wanna check out a song I worte about my home - Newfoundland called Breathe the Air - Newfoundland with some amazing scenic photos! Cheers
This is seriousley thee most erisistable beautiful place on earth. I went there for a summer trip and cried leaving. Its even more puzzeling to know that i have walked and seen have the places shown on this video. Cabot tower is amazing. Theres so much history, its just to great for words.
I agree. I am an America who lived there for awhile and I miss so much. It's the greatest town in the world. There is nothing like being at that place.
I really want to move back there because moving from there was a horrid mistake.
Hi, for those of you who want to see more of Newfoundland, can check documentary film I made during my visit in summer of 2007. I didn't find any movie online for free so I made this one and posted it. just search for "Newfoundland through eyes of a foreigner" and you will get links to youtube trailer where you can find link to official website in the description on right side, too.
This place is breathtaking!!! I must admit, the reason why I looked up this video is because I have just learnt that one of my favourite movies called "Behind The Red Door" with Kiefer Sutherland was filmed in St Johns. If you ever get to know exactly where HIS house in the film was, could you make a video of it? I would be so delighted. Kathy
Its absolutly the most amazing place in the world to live. If we all lived here here there would be no such thing as war. Its the most awesome place to live if you can handle the snow in winter.
Lol, it's too bad this video doesn't show it because we have A LOT of trees. It's very green here-I live in an area that has immense forest just behind it. It's beautiful :)
I just got back from St. John's. I absolutely fell in love with the city. So different from where I'm from. Went bar hopping almost every night lol. I'm definitely gonna visit again sometime :)
Lol, cause its not as nice as everyoen thinks it is... its starting to become a ghetto... a shit hole so many break ins now a-days.... im moving to japan asap anyway
Some of my ancestors are from Ireland. They landed in St. John's and were probably thinking "What the hell...I thought we just left this place!" When they stepped foot of the boat.
I love the music you did for this video. Does anybody know the best way to get to Newfoundland from New York? Is it a boring drive up the east coast and is the ferry ride very long? I would love to go but not in winter obviously.
