@roquefortfiles The 70s were like Sodom and Gammorah compared to today. LOL. Part of that isn't just the fault of the PC left wingers. You have to blame it also on the Reagans and the Moral Majority and the way they went after pornography, illegal drugs and sexual perversions w/ the goal of pushing American culture away from the Sexual Revolution and the Vietnam War era. You have reactionaries on both sides of the political spectrum.
@arandumLloser He's dying his hair to appear to be younger and more virile, so he's got a better chance at getting the job Irene Lorenzo is also trying to get. Of course, he ended up looking like Nixon or Reagan or Jerry Lewis or something.
@mpjgbx Yes, Archie was trying for a promotion to a white-collar, management job and he thought that if he didn't have the grey hair he would have a better shot. He also volunteered for a "donation" the boss was pushing. He found out it was organ-donation, which he was afraid of. He washed out the black hair and told the boss his organs were in bad shape. Hearing this the boss gave Black Elmo the job.
@25mfd WOW!! You are SO right...... I don't even watch the crap on TV today. I buy the DVD's of my favorite shows from the past. Like Hollywood TV has become a cesspool of no talent and no brilliance. Thank you for commenting. I agree whole-heartedly with you. :-) And thanks for stopping by my page.
@RadcliffOfCrymod No photoshopping. Archie used a rinse to color his hair. He wanted to look younger because he thought it would help him get a promotion at work. :-)
@frc1968 Hmm, I must not have seen that episode. I don't remember much about this show, except for what they show on TV-Land, and I'm sure they butchered the crap out of the show because of this whole thing called "political correctness."
@RadcliffOfCrymod Trust me, if you can get it on DVD even as a rental it is so worth it. The show is and always will be fabulous. I hope you will check it out on DVD. :-) Thanks for posting.
@frc1968 I just completed the series after years of collecting and waiting witht he addition of seasons 8 & 9. Now all I need is the seasons after the first season of "Archie Bunker's Place."
@TheSomethington I can barely remember when during the '72 presidential season there were Archie Bunker for President t-shirts and bumper stickers around. You weren't entirely kidding.
Archie had a hilarious way of validating his bigotry. Whenever some1 asked him a serious thought question, Archie gave you his typical archie-ism that though sounded so wrong, it made sense if you didnt think logically. Either way- hes the best debater ever.
@stringerboi Logic is so hard to judge. Everyone assumes logic is the perfect thought process. Where each different thought you have has X number of outcomes and the perfect thought point would be this list of conclusions and actions taken. Logic it's self is flawed like religion is flawed, no matter where the perfect path of thought is said to be written, human interpretation per person has no duplicate. Logic used was written to show how something wrong can sound right with proper delivery.
In addition: This program showcased our political system to the tee. Archie representing the extreme and illogical right, "Meathead" representing the extreme and illogical left. Edith and Archie's daughter usually represented the middle ground. The common ground? All sides were good people, just a little misguided. Not like today where the side who preaches against hate are the most hateful, while the other refuses to change at all.
Boys and girls, Archie is talking about cavemen. Those of you who are taking such great offense to this need to remember that. If you follow your theories of how we evolved from monkeys then this would not be so far off. Go find a video of chimps' mating rituals and you'll see. Also, this is a sit-com which is short for situation COMEDY. It's not meant to be taken seriously. The only reason this isn't appropriate today is people are way too sensitive. We aren't alive without a sense of humor.
@sns21274 Your nonsensical comment shows how we have no sense of humor as a society because we're bound up by the constraints of political correctness.
@AirCargoHeavy I hear ya. Notice that the audience didn't exactly laugh so hard at the "forcing women" comment Archie made. Maybe that one was a little off but the rest of it was hilarious. I find the other commentators "typical conservative" comment to be more offensive. I'm glad I'm open minded and not empty minded like some. It's funny how people like him preach so much against hate, but they are the most hateful people in the country. I-R-O-N-Y.
@frc1968 Let me ask you a question. Why is it when somebody speaks out about anything anti-gay they're labled as gay bashers? IE: marriage between two men or women? I'm not opposed to civil unionsbeyween gay couples yet I oppose gays using the term "marriage".
@CUALL8R My response would be to switch roles for a moment and imagine straight people were being denied rights just because of who they are. Why should I or anyone else in the GLBT community have less rights than someone who is straight? That doesn't seem fair. Want the same rights as every other citizen. As for the gay basher part. There are bashers who do great harm but I would characterize most anti-gay people as bigots not bashers. Thank you for the question.
@frc1968 I'm not advocating an abrogation of rights for anyone. However, marriage is a term of a union between a man an a woman. Like I stated I have no problem with civil unions between ayone afiliated in the GLBT community. Most people in the GLBT get offended if it is stated 'they can't help it they were born that way". Since GLBT's choose that lifstyle, they also have to accept the societal definition of marriage. I appreciate you response to my question. You stated it well. Thank you!
@CUALL8R I knew at the age of 5 that I was different. Back then I didn't know what it was or what it was called. Speaking from my personal life experience I did not chose to be gay. It's who I am. Once again, straight people don't consciously chose to be straight anymore than gay people conciously chose to be gay. Our sexuality is a part of who we are. "It's a lifestyle choice" is what is being used by many in an attempt to deny equality and not just in marriage.
@CUALL8R Marriage is a social and legal contract between 2 people. Many people chose to have a religious ceremony and that's fine but you can go to any judge in the land and get married. On the flip side, when a couple gets divorced they don't go to a church they see lawyers and go to court. However, back in the early days of the Catholic church the church did indeed bless same sex unions.
@frc1968 this show was just on tv today. he rinses out the color after he wakes up after having a dream. he tells edith he had a dream and she says in must of scared you because your hair is gray today.

I thought I'd never stop laughing when I first heard this. So perfectly 'Archie-logical' -- Thanks (so very) much for uploading it!
@ashatbulaparanormal Guys like that are probably so insecure about themselves they have to keep the woman under the lock and key essentially. In response to the meathead: 19th century? More like 400 BC!
One of the best sitcoms ever to hit television. Even though I hated many of meathead's liberal thoughts, it was still funny.

No network would have the balls to air this now. In a way we are far more repressed than we were in 1974.
Sad in a big way. What Archie says is the truth but today it would be glossed over by being too "Offensive" to minority groups or fags or whatever.
Now its just CSI whatever. Nobody wants to push boundaries anymore.
Sad.
