love this movie, came in just before the code came out. "As long as they have sidewalks you'll have a job". You just wouldn't expect those lines from a 1930s movie.
Always wanted to see this!! Loved Gold Diggers of '33 and 42nd Street. I imagine with the pairing of Cagney and Blondell that this is pretty awesome too!
Why have You Tube got such a thing agains the Shanghai Nights sequence, one of the greatest dance sequences ,so now have to go out and buy the whole movie , methinks thats probably the Idea !! But they didnt cut By a waterfall ?????
Since I was a kid, and now I'm 48 I always loved the "Shanghai Lil" number and Cagney/Keeler were classic. He had an odd, stiff legged dance style, but he was great! The melody of the song has been with me all my life.
What a shame Youtube removed the Shanghai Nights sequence , one of my all time favourites . not just the Pop Music or British Transport Films Collection thats suffering Youtube have just gone right over the top on this copyright thing.
I sure enjoyed watching this. My dad used to watch this with us on summer evenings on KCET in the 70s. My favorite dance sequence is Jimmy Cagney and Ruby Keeler in Shanghai Lil. What a dancer he was! Footlight Parade is my all time favorite Busby Berkley movie. Thanks for posting this.
We have all become so accustomed to seeing Cagney-as-Cohan, that it must have really been a shock to 1933 audiences! They could never have known he actually started as a "chorus-dancer" on Broadway. Of all the stars my grandfather worked-with thru the years, Cag was only one of three he ever talked-about with real enthusiasm -- the other two: Ann Sheridan and Errol Flynn. Dick Powell & Frank McHugh also remained good-friends of his. They really were like a family at Warners'! R.J.
"As long as they have sidewalks you have a job!" OOOOOOOOOOO!

In my opinion, better than both "42nd St." and "Goldiggers of 1933" from the same year. So many well-woven plotlines!

Clip of a Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler scene at 1:27-1:33:
"You tried to fool me?"
"Mmm-hmm."
"Ah, but what a change! You're beautiful and what a dancer!"
"Mm-hmm"
"Is that all you can say? 'Mmm-hmm'?"
"Mmm-hmm"
"Well how 'bout a little kiss then?" (leans towards her)
(moves away) "Unnh-uh. I should say not."
Classic lines. Why can't movies be like they used to be or even better why can't life be like that?

I have one thing to say to those who are disappointed about a Youtube video being pulled. If you like it that much, why don't you buy it?
