@waz00z No, the engine speed is higher than the transmission speed when its down shifted, to the transmission forcefully brakes the engine when the clutch is engaged. The force is too much for the rods, crank and bearings so they tend to break. It could be a lot worse though, there's been instances that the flywheel shattered and shot through the firewall and engine bay. The miss shift could be caused by driver error or a broken shift fork in the trans, most of the times though its the driver.
@waz00z No, nothing would. After you let the clutch out your toast because your wheels are directly connected to your engine. So if your going too fast for that gear, youll over rev the engine.
@azazimi Simple. Pull a little over to the left by accident, and hit the gate for 2nd instead. I have a RWD car with a tremec TKO. With those, its almost impossible to go 3-2 at WOT. So much rotating mass that it just wont syncronize. With FWD cars, its easy. Small trans with small clutch disc. Goes right in to the wrong gear just like the proper shift would.

when youre in a corner keep a steady throttle, keeps the car balanced and only apply more throttle when you don't have to come off the throttle again, blipping like you were doing slows you down. Not to be harsh mate but scruffy driving, racing is all about being smooth. still, gutted for you bud
This is about the only useful post here asides from the gay jokes posted by others.. .backhanding the shifter is the best defense against missing these kids of shifts.
did you go from 3rd to 2nd? i've never done that. my problem is not getting all the way into a gear and releasing the clutch too soon. and sometimes in first when i rev it all the way out it just won't go into 2nd.
@orangeorphan easy to do actually when you're grabbing that shift like he did, as mentioned above it's best to back-hand 3 to 4 to minimize your tendency to pull the shifter towards you while making that shift. It's easy done to mess up shifts while racing!
