Mr. Martin, Thank you for your video. With your permission, I am adding it to the channel I am building for our patients (and the public). Coping peers is one of the greatest experiences for "patients."
@DeviceClinic Hi Joyce..Yes you have my permission to post this video to your channel. I made this video to help as many people as possible who are going to have this procedure done.
Many thanks for this. My mum is about to have one fitted and believe me, hearing your story has really helped me to feel more confident about it. Many thanks again, and continued health and happiness to you.
@funkbunny Your welcome.I wish your Mum the best of luck with her procedure! I am very happy that my video helped you feel more confident! You made my day
Thank you Jeffery for your video. You're a very kind and generous person to share your story. It made me feel more confident about my father's impending pacemaker implantation. He's 77. All the best to you and God bless.
@snowlake1910 Wow..Thank you so much! This was the best comment I have had regarding this video. I had a lot of people ask me why I would make this type of video about my personal medical situation.. and I tell them because if my video helps just one person feel better about the getting the procedure, then it is all worth it.
Jeffery- Thank You so much for this video...I am 42 years old and will be having a Bi-Vent Pacemaker-ICD implanted at the Cleveland Clinic in November...I really am comforted to hear your words, especially the part about feeling better! It puts my mind at ease, Thank You!

I am a 48 year old female. I have done(do) marathons, 10ks, Zumba & dancing often--yet by weird luck, I was put on a 24 hr heart monitor which found my rate very low (41) yet, would rise quickly within seconds to anywhere from 178-190. After many stress tests, echos, dye scans, etc...my refraction rate last year was at 45, now it is @25 and they are deciding whether to go with implant of defib, pacemaker or both. I don't want either-I don't feel bad and I don't want a scare or be 'labeled'
Jeff Thank You So very much for posting this! !in 3 hrs im getting a dual chamber pacemaker put in l hope the best for you.... l'll save this to my favs and l'll talk to you later. Thanks Again,
John Edwards
PS mine is for A fib and slow heartbeat after that
I got my pacemaker about 2 years ago for tachycardia i was 12 im 14 now and i got defibulated about a week ago because i had been skipping my medicine and doing other things . Getting defibulated is NOT fun and Hurt S0 bad so if anyone who has a pacemaker is skipping medicine etc I would change asap . Just some advice - Thanks and good luck to all who are dealing with this issue
My 17 year old girl went thru this in Nov (about 1 month ago). It was a very rush and sort of emergency thing. So we were frighten and afraid - if we had the time, we would have found a video like yours that helps us feel better about the whole thing.
What would be good is that u do a follow-up video on how you are doing ...
I got a pacemaker when I was 8 years old, due to congenital heartblock. It completely changed my life. I play hockey and lacrosse in high school, both at the varsity level, which just goes to show that pacemakers do not limit what you can do in your life. I'm now 17, and the initial battery is still going strong. Hope everything stays well with yours
Thanks for your all Information, Iwanted to ask you , after the surgery , did you back to normal life, ias far swming, sport, what things you can't do?
Today is Sept 2 2010. Thanks for a very very helpful video. How are you feeling now? any side effects or complications? or all is well? I am scheduled for a pacemaker and man I feel so anxious. Please post a new video. Thanks
A nice video Jeffrey. With respect, I would advise people to look also at 'terrigirl512' because her post-op experience was actually closer to my own, although like you I was sedated unconscious for the actual op. Post-op pain was severe in my case, feeling as if I'd been shot, and my arm was badly bruised and still hurts 10 days after. Codeine sorted the pain. That said, it IS a minor procedure, but be prepared for an uncomfortable few days following, depending on how gentle your surgeon was!
Im a 36yo female and have been told i need a pacemaker i am very worried about it there are no pacemaker journey stories on here tht i can find do you know of any ??
were you asleep when they did the surgery? this is something i worry about.
@hemi367 Well that was the reason I did this video. I could not really find a good informative video from anybody that had the procedure .
I hope that you were able to feel a little more comfortable after watching my video.
I was not fully asleep for my procedure. I did not feel any pain, and I could not see what they were doing. It took them less than an hour to implant the pacemaker.
Please don't worry to much. Everything will be fine.
Feel free to message me if you have any further questions
Hi Jeffrey, thanks for posting this video and sharing yr experience. I had my pacemaker implant 2 days ago. Like you, I had bradycardia with my heart rate beating betwn 35 to 45 most times. Now its being paced at 60. Yr video is very encouraging and puts me in high spirits. The device brand is Medtronics. Is yrs the same? Cos I heard its currently the best in the market. Keep well :D
@ChweeEng Thank you so much for your comments. It really is not that long of a recovery process. The incision sight will be a little sore for a few days, and remember not to lift anything to heavy!
My pacemaker brand is St. Jude. They originally set mine for 60 beats per minute, but I was feeling so good with that. I asked them to increase it to 70 beats a minute. Immediately after changing this, I felt even better! Something to consider!
Jeffrey seven days ago I had a pacemaker implanted. I suffer from bradycardia. I am 57 years old. I feel good, however, I am still a little lathargic. I have taken off from work for 30 days. How long were you off work?
@bgcsuncoast Glad to hear that you had this procedure done. It will truly be life changing. Feeling lethargic is completely normal. Some people take a little bit longer to adjust to having a normal heart rate.
Mine is currently set at 70 beats a minute. I feel like a new man! :)
I was only off work for 3 days. I was extremely lucky. My reacted very well to having the pacemaker. My incision however was pretty sore for about 4 weeks
My father who's 80 is having a pacemaker installed this week. I was wondering what he would go through and how he might feel afterwards and found your video. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and I hope you stay well.
@ismeme Hello! Thank you so much for your comments. That is the main reason I wanted to make a video like this. It really moved me to here comments like this.
hi jeffrey how are you? ^_^ im doing great, i saw the cardiologist last week and they checked the pacemaker and said that ive only had 10 episodes of fast heart rate lasting less than a minute. i dont have to see him till july = ). oh and i also started going for cardiac rehab 2 and a half weeks ago. they have me on a monitor the whole time. the nurses are really nice, its a 3 month program. im hoping it helps with my tachycardia Donna
I was thinking second wire would help my atrial fib, but my doc says that afib in atrium is at rate of 300 beats per min so pacemaker would have no effect.. I will get one wire.. thanks for your reply and for the video which has helped me educate my family to what I am into. Great job..all this helps to calm us all.
last time i was in airport i requested a hand search so that way i did not have to go through the metal detector.. thats good that they adjusted your pacemaker to 70 beats a minute from 60.thats what mine is set at 70. oh i got a pocket camcorder for christmas so next time i go to the cardiologist ill post a video of what a pacemaker interrogation looks like ^_^
Yea I was wondering about going through the metal detectors at the airport! I guess that is one of the reasons we have to carry our Pacemaker card! I hope I remember to have it with me..LOL
Yea the 70 beats a minute is AWESOME! Woo Hoo!
The pocket camcorder sounds cool! Yes you should definitely post that video! I will be looking forward to that!
Thanks for your comments!
Hope you and your family have a very Happy New Year!
its cool when i get my pacemaker checked...you can see everything thats going on at the moment on the screen.. i always carry my pacemaker card with me in case of a emergency and i wear a medic alert necklace . do u have a medic alert necklace also?
I am sorry that you had to go through this at such a young age!
Yes they checked mine last week. It was set to 60 beats a minute, and I told them to bump it up to 70 beats a minute! I feel even better now! Woo Hoo!
Yes I just got my permanent Pacemaker card and I am carrying it with me, in case I set off the metal detectors. LOL

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I am wishing you a speedy recovery my friend.
