My buddy from the Army whos from Boston, came out to Cal. where I live and we went to that game. You never know your gonna see history. I remember talkin' shit in the 9th how the Red Sox suck, and all the cops on the field so you couldn't run out there, but we were gonna do it anyway. Then Donny Moore. Angel fans NEVER forgave him, and he never forgave himself and sadly committed suicide.
The REAL greatest moment in Angel Stadium? Angels defeat SF in Game #7 behind John Lackey's pitching. That ended a 42 year World Series drought for the Halos. A great moment Angel fans will remember, October 27th, 2002.
What a classic game it was.I remember the camara zooming in on Gene Mauch's face after Donnie blew it,he just sat there stoned faced staring straight ahead, wow 1 strike away. For sheer drama the 86' playoffs.
When Rice made that catch in left-field in the bottom of the tenth with two outs, the runner on first (a fast runner I believe, but don't remember the name) was running the pitch as the count was 3-2. Rice barely caught the ball, i.e., he snow-coned it. If he had dropped it, I think the runner from first scores the winning run. I also remember Baylor being down in the count 1-2, before eventually working it full and then hitting his HR.
Well said and a great question. That game in 1986 is definitely a top 3 but the 2002 season was totally electric!. So I would have to say one of the last games from that season because they finally went on to win it all.
I was there, and it was truly one of the most draining games to watch. The Orange suits, security, lining up beside both dugouts in anticipation of Angel First pennant celebration ever!!! When Henderson hit the 2 strike home run off Donnie Moore, you could feel the air being sucked out of Anaheim stadium. The Angels were dead....
Yea i couldnt belive it that they actually lost that, epsecially when they just fell apart like that they even had all those greats on there team and still fell to the sox, but good thing is it came back to haught them in the world series against the mets..... good job bill buckner :D
i beg to differ. the greatest game was the 2002 American league championship. Adam Kennedy hit 3 home runs, and we had a 10 hit 10 run inning. that win moved us to the World series(that we won) for the first time. nothing comes close. nothing.
I have to agree with you, foxmulder, except that that would have to be tied for greatest moment in the history of the Big A with 29 August, 1986. The Angels came back from an 8 run deficit with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, a comeback capped by Dick Schofield's walkoff grand slam.
Man, I hope Donnie Moore's folks don't see this video.
Nevertheless, that game remains one of the greatest of them all. The Dave Henderson home run is one of the those sports moments where you remember where you were when it happened.
Look on the bright side. The Angels did eventually win the World Series, which is something that I wish I could say about the Mariners, who have yet to play in one. And in recent years, the Angels have done nothing but give the Mariners fits.
im just glad we got beat by vlad, because other than him every player on that team is a stupid bitch. hunter who thinks hes so great but has never even been to the world series, bobby abrau, that cunt figgins who cant even spell Shawn correctly, weaver, lackey, fuentes who has an era of like 5. but guerrero is awesome
I was there. I was an Angel since moving to Orange County as a child in 1966. I was there when they clinched their first title in '79, and for the infamous "GAME 5". It was the best, most emotional draining game I've ever seen. I turned to my brother and his wife who were there with me and said: "If the Angels lose this one, I'm through with them." They did and I was GO CUBS!
fuck you! how could you turn your back on them?! now ur a cubs fan?! talk about an even worse bad-luck team!! what a joke!!! you don't ditch ur team because they do bad...you stick by them no matter what! i been an angel fan my whole life! i've been to an half emprty stadium for years and seen them be the worst team in baseball, but i stuck around and i'm still here! and now angels are becoming the premiere franchises in all of baseball!! so go fuck urself tradeR!
Wow. I like your knowledge. You are a true Angels of Anaheim fan through and through. :) I hadn't even heard of some of those moments. I always enjoy hearing about lesser known moments from the die-hard fans. I have the same kind of knowledge about Mariners games. Although IMO, I'd put Spiezio's home run ahead of Kennedy's 3-home run game and put Glaus's two-run double (which came off Robb Nen) ahead of Spiezio's home run.
The Angels will not defeat the Red Sox until they counter the Henderson home run with an equally dramatic action of their own. But what would that be?
GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Goat of that game was Doug Decinces. Bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, one out. He swings at the first pitch and POPS UP TO the outfield.

I'm not reading off the Internet. I write each of these narratives and read them off the screen, like newscasters.

yeah but the Angles still can't beat the Red Sox. Henderson in 86, Ortiz in 04, Ramirez in 07, and Jed Lowrie in 08.

Dave Henderson's homer was one of the most dramatic ever hit. Red Sox have never lost to the Angels in the playoffs since that homer in 1986.
TheVoiceOfTruth 3 years ago
Ain't that the truth. Makes us wonder if the Angels of Anaheim will ever win another post-season game against the Red Sox.

Game 5 of 86 ALCS, even though the outcome SUCKED and all you RedSox fans can DIE!!!, WAS THE GREATEST GAME EVER...ANYWHERE!!!
