  • Incredibly inspiring video dude, glad it came up after I was watching Eddie Bravo's Rubber Guard vid.

    For me it's the cardio and weight lifting that's easy (I used to be bigger but have lost a lot of weight mostly by doing cycling), I've always had tight hamstrings and somewhat inflexible hips.

    As the other poster said, you have given me hope. I'd love to see some baby step vids that show how to get where you are now.

  • I'm 283lbs and I can do all those things easily but I have a condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. The collegen in my joints have a mutation in them so it lets me move easy. It also causes problems because my joints pop in and out all the time. If I even just get out of bed wrong I can dislocate my ankle or knee.

  • Lol, this dude tried to stretch himself out by breaking his own knee...legendof, don't have children. As to the guy in the video, first of all congratulations on your progress so far! I know you are probably taking your physical fitness to another level, but I can see that you are still holding onto a bit of fat. I can guarantee you that once you drop more weight and gain more strength your flexibility is going to almost double! Keep working and I know you can see way more.

  • Great job man, I've been doing the easier stretches and I made up some of my own along the way. It's hard work but definitely worth it. Keep it up man, respect.

  • Holy shit this is amasing .. i just got eddies book and having been stretching for only a week and starting to see slight improvement, i cant do any of this shit though im just getting into the starting position of the lotus like just crosing my legs and i need to use my hands 8-) any advice :)

    but man you wood have a wicked rubber guard you should get fit though put on some strength as another 250lb guy will by like 3 times your stregenth no offense btw haha im amased at you .

    If you read Eddie's book, its not about the appearance of the other person. Actually not looking like a monster will have your opponents underestimating you, and when the guy in the video hits you with an intense move there will be nothing you can do about it. No offense, just saying.

  • i've been doing guard stretching for like four months, and i can get into lotus with no hands after two months, and i could get my knees all the way down after one month, still cant get my leg behind my head, how long did that take you?

    i don't stretch like i use to but i still use eddie's routine is a bible to me.

    i also use some of the stretches from the ryan hall video that i uploaded

    stuff takes time. depends how much hours you put in per week!!!

    you are going to set some time aside. at least 30 min or more everyday or 3-4 days

    another good idea is to stretch after your training

    use eddie's routine in his rubber guard book

  • @rubberguard83 Question? I just started to train MMA and I have long skinny legs which can be very effective if flexible. I tend to be overly anxious when I don't see results in a day lol. I know these things take time and consistent practice. I'm very stiff so I try to hold the positions for as long I can by bringing my feet together in the lotus pose and push down on my knees with my elbows. My groin is very sore, should I gave it a few days before I start again considering I'm a beginner?

  • @rubberguard83 hey, i've been practicing rubber guard by myself and i stretch at home, watching tv and stuff and my friends and my dad (my dad is a tkd grandmaster, my mom is a nurse, and my friend is a fitness freak) all say that stretching your knees are bad for you. is it really?

    whenever i put my legs like that, my left leg hurts at the groin area. am i doing something wrong? am i overdoing it? the pain that im feeling in me left leg/left groin area hurts more and i a different way then my right leg hurts, it doesnt feel Okay.

  • when i first started i put most of my time into the lotus until i got both knees to the ground... i lean into it like on 0:11 of my video.

    it's up to you on how long you hold it.

    I have done 10 -15 minutes with no problems other than shaking it off when I stand up.

    I don't force it but I get a deep deep stretch.

    if you sit at a desk everyday at work or where ever.. it's going to be hard to achieve that position. sit in the lotus any chance you get.

  • Was just checking Eddie Bravo vids and ambled accross your vid. Good effort, mate! I'm doing a Higher National Diploma at college here in Scotland. It's mainly Gym free-weights/Machines, CV machine work, aerobics and anatomy in our course. Stretching is linked to all subjects, practical & theory! Hence cheking out Mr Bravo. Keep it up, bud!   • hahaaa, titties :). No offence dude, but u look like the guy from the TUF show. Great flexibility though, I tried to get to lotus position without warmup. I used brute forc to get my legs in position. With first 2 attempts i succeeded, but with third try and broke something in my right knee cuz I put it too close the on the left knee and not close to my hip. After I get my knee fixed i will get back to stretching cuz I want to get as flexible as u are.

  • Rubber guard is a move not a style. BJJ is a style, and rubber guard is a technique that has various techniques within it. I didn't refer to it as mission control. Honestly, all the names Eddie Bravo gave for the rubber guard when he was HIGH is rather silly. I'm not saying that it's not useful, but lately I'm seeing a trend in certain academies. Almost making it the "holy grail" of the bottom guard game. I like the technique i really do, but it's not the greatest thing in the world.

    i think the pain is from

    the bottom pressure on the outside of the knee

    don't force it because of ego or whatever.

    ease into it. it doesn't have to be a full lotus pose it can be a half ass one or sitting crossed legged.

  • i have my notebook computer on my bed so i sit in the lotus for hours on end

    drink lots of water over 2 liters a day .. drinking lots of water helps get you flexible

    and start taking omega 3  cold pressed caplets to help oil your joints
