Rest in peace, Gil Scott Heron. You were an icon who paved the way for many poets, and modern rap(not the shit on the radio). If a poet, soul/jazz artist or anyone who belongs to part of the movement which is hip hop doesn't know of your legacy then they need to learn to be able to truly continue in their craft.
Wow, I just discovered this artist an hour ago, and I'm completely fucking blown away. Amazing, Inspiring, Emotional. Just great stuff. I don't even usually like music that leans towards the rap/hip hop/roots sound. This is truly unique, though.
@bigg781 Best I can do for the lyrics - His eyes have closed, to reveal his world of nod, A world of lonely men and no love, no god, His life of seeming nonchalance can't hide, The pain and fear that in his mind reside(s). From dawn til dawn his body howls(?) with hurt, And none of us can truly aid his search, We sit outside in _____? The fool, It's always easy to forecast others' doom, The savage beast that once so soothed his brain, Has ris its ugly head again and staked its claim,
Oh Gil , where would I be in life and how would I have been able to handle so many shitty jobs without listening to your beautiful music and words of wisdom blasting out the stereo on a lovely day . I will see you at North Sea Jazz . God bless the man

@kitchenmachine Gil Scott doesn't lean towards rap; He practically created the genre.

Koriyama (?) //
This is one more soul, he will have to add to sorrow's total, //
These men, still men, would be like you and me, //
But when the world reached out, they chose to flee, //
(echo of 'emerging'?) //
Crutch.

Few artists today deserve the title genius or visionary. Gil Scott Heron is both.
