  • its ok for druggies and alkies to get benefits but genuine disabled ppl there is stigma ........i have MS so clearly i need it ......im certainly not free loading off anyone i was actually training to become a primary school teacher this was taken away from me due to health how the fek do u think i feel having that taken away from me i also cannot drive now that comment from that dumb ass mother fker makes me soooooooooooo ANGRY

  • People stereotype those on SSDI/SSI and special state funds because unfortunately, there are people that do take advantage of the system...

...and as far as "freedloading off taxpayers" is concerened...Take a look at the corporate world...

  • Thanks for the great video!

  • fuck what people say if you cant get hired becuase of these biased employers USE THE BLOODY DISABILITY!

  • I Have M.E And Lots of people say i am very very lazy because one minute im up running about next ii cant get up. :/ ={

  • Ha Ha! Well said.

  • and on ssi

  • iam on disability

  • There are people who deserve disability no doubt about it. The reason so many people start saying people on disability are lazy fat asses is b/c there are so many people on it that do not deserve it. In the past couple of years I've seen so many young people(<35) getting disability that do not deserve it. Most of them are pill addicts. They go to doctors and lie to get pain meds. Fibromyalgia and being fat is no excuse for us to pay your bills, neither is feeling bad b/c of their druggie past.

  • @conwayallday01 Well this video is not about people who are pill/drug addicts or people who scam the system. Ive made videos about that and I believe I say the same thing in this video about the scammers. thats why I said MOST. It actually is hard for people who actually need it to get benefits so it baffles me how people could scam the system, but I think those people are despicable. Just my 2 cents.

  • @xsullengirlx Thats so true, it does seem the druggies get on disability easy. Yet people like me, it took forever to get. SS treats people like crap, it really sucks. I get why they are like that, cause they see so many losers throughout the day, but at the same time it isn't fair to the people that need the check to be treated so badly either. Every time I have to update my information or go down to SS I get a panic attack, cause I know whats in store.

  • @conwayallday01

I have fibromyalgia and I am sorry to say but it does at some point makes you become unable to work because i worked with this condition for a year and an half. You bitch and complain about people on disability but you dont raise your voice about the one percent that gets tons of tax breaks and do not pay their fair share. All you have to do is declare ur self one dollar for income but get income from non taxable sources. Y dont u point ur anger towards them u wont

  • SSI is an INSURANCE you pay into, so it is not welfare. IF people dont use it or need it they should be thankfull they are not ill.

  • i'm trying to get off.. it's hard.. right now the only thing I need is a CAR!! I have a nice resume made for my target industry, and can get job interviews - making 30-50k a year in the IT field... I tried applying for minimum wage but i dont fit in with the minimum wage culture. I worked minimum wage in the past and just didnt do well. I only seem to perform best & do well in my field of ambition. I am working with the gov on trying to get reliable transportation assistance, hopefully soon!

  • THANK You.

I was denied for SSI too. Am going to higher a lawyer over this >.> I'm not in it for the money really =/ I need something as far as medicaid and all. I cannot work right now, and without any sort of insurance - I cant afford my meds.

One of them is over 1k a month. We (my family) cannot afford that. And as far as the meds go- they are very much needed. Especially invega X_X The schizophrenia is really bad and without my meds I get ... Unpredictable ...

  • Thank You!

  • thanks for the video

  • i understand

  • i feel you in every way people just dont get

  • Thank you

  • its alot easier said then done my brother has been looking for work for 6 years but the employers won't hire him due to his mental illness. So he finally decided to say screw it and got on benefits a few months ago, and thats the only income he has

  • Informative. I didn't know there was temporary state aid you could receive while applying - and waiting to be approved - for SSI.

  • Wow you paid into the system for 5 yrs,how long have you been on disability ,or shall I say how long to you plan to stay on disability?

  • @SaltOfTheEarth69 dang, I keep messing up on this comment because for SOME reason with the new layout I can't see what I am typing to you. Anyway, I am not on SSI, I am not on disability. I applied but was denied. I may appeal, but I am in recovery so am trying to make it on my own. I get low income benefits from my state as being unable to work, though.

  • you go girl!

i dont think people realize how long and thorough of a process a disability application is. eating disorders and other mental illnesses can hold someone back from working let alone just living a normal day. its the people that cant open their minds that make this process of recovery an embarrassing & shameful thing. if we were to let all the people that really needed the disability go from the few programs we do have. this country would slowly fall apart, even tho it already ...

  • seems like it is. our healthcare system is not one to applaud and that is part of the reason countries with a decent healthcare system have less mental illness and healthier people all the way around.

  • People can be so stupid. My step-dad is on disability - years ago he got in a car accident and has metal plates in his legs and part of his heel was removed-he has a permanent limp. Despite this, he worked about 20 years in the restaurant business, mostly on his feet. Now he's getting terrible pains when he's on his feet for more than two hours, and they weren't even considering him for disability.

It was ridiculous, but he made a big enough deal to get on it.

  • baccuruda1970 God forbid you find yourself needing disability because a man like me finds you harassing a young woman whose life is already difficult enough, and maims, and cripples you for it. God forbid you had a child with cerebral palsy, and really needed that help to take of of 'em. You want to try to talk about right, and wrong. She is doing something to positively affect the world. Something productive. You are trying to thwart that. Well look around, cause the writing is on the wall.

  • Wow. I cannot get over your shockingly good looks. I understand the stigma first hand. I am schizophrenic, and suffer from neurological disorders do to the side effects of medications. Do not cry, or break. Always fight the good fight, and never give up. I might be able to rally support for you. I am awesome like that.

  • You do sound pretty awesome, I'll give ya that! Thank you for the compliments, and also for the encouragement. It's nice once in a while to see comments like this because it reminds me that I am not alone in the fight, and that I must keep on. And I will :) I appreciate the offer of support and help, I think we all need to be there for each other. Take care :)

  • Oh my. You look amazingly beautiful. Keep up the good fight. The ringer is just that a ringer. It hurts, and its jarring, but in the end to the victor go the spoils. Never give up. We have to work twice as hard at for pretty much anything. We know the costs, and the rewards for hard work better than anyone. I myself volunteer just to get out everyday, and do something productive. Let me know how I can help!

  • And living with a mental disorder/s aint no "FREEBIE OR FREE RIDE". Again, people who scam the system are the ones just trying to get a free ride.

  • Barracuda - have you ever looked at your paycheck and noticed the money the government takes out for social security benefits? If not, next time take a peek. I'm not saying that the government or taxpayers don't have a hand in some funded programs/benefits, but it's not ALL on the taxpayers, a lot of disabled people have worked in the past. Not all, but a lot.

  • food, clothes, money to pay bills.

  • I know with unemployment, that the money you receive is the money that worked for and got payed from you previous job. Like i said before, people work for a little while, then deliberately stop working soo they can sit and around and receive unemployment. Lets say you had a physical disablity, like a broken leg, you could receive short-term physical disability......you wouldnt take advantage of that? People with disabilitys are human beings too, they need money for the necessities of life.......

  • It really is a non-starter anyway because unemployment benefits are so miniscule compared to SSDI benefits. The unemployed get relatively nothing. Just the medical benefits alone that come with SSDI are disgustingly expensive. For what? "I'm scared to leave my house." Please. I'd rather sit at home rather and collect checks than go out into the world and earn a living.

  • Our society continues to enable this kind of crap and everyone thinks they're entitled to a free ride. It never occurs to most these people where this free ride is coming from. They think resources are unlimited and a gift from the heavens. I believe in a safety net, but just that - a safety net. Food, shelter, and the right to pursue happiness. If you're truly disabled, you'll get enough to survive. If not, you'll have every incentive to get out there and better yourself.

  • Look dude. Quit giving her a hard time. Would you have the balls to say that to her in person? Think about it. No because its rude, and wrong. She is trying to make a positive impact on the world, and you are just being jerk, and trying to bring her down. You want to talk about right, and wrong. Well the writing is on the wall. It seems yer testament to this world has been to harass young beautiful women who are already having a hard time. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

  • a neck brace faking a neck injury and say their disabled. Those are the scammers. With mental disability, simply being diagnosed is a disorder/s isnt enough to receive disability, in my opinion, that is because of scammers. If that was the law with disability, that simply going to a doc and him saying oh you have this disorder.....and just by the doc saying that you have this disorder, you can automatically receive benefits, if that was the case, millions of scammers would take advantage of that

  • RedandWhite - I see your points, except when someone (at least here) gets approved for benefits for a mental disability, they have to go through RIGOROUS (I mean very intense) psychological exams by many different doctors, and even then if approved keep doing that every 6 months to a year. It's not as easy as just going to a doctor and having them say "oh, you've got this wrong with you" and then handing you a check. But yeah your point is valid there are lots of scammers.

  • While disabilities are being studied, a lot of people do in fact; fabricate disabilities. If someone has a toenail fungus, that person will say that his doctor said that he could not wear shoes because it would only irritate the fungus. In reality, he only did it to avoid being kicked out of a resturaunt for not wearing shoes.

  • you are so right ...people call me lazy all the time because i dont have ajob but i do tons of things...i just cant handle social pressure, phobia, fear ANXIETY

  • ALSO, the title of this should be "PEOPLE ON DISABILITY ARE NOT LAZY! (PEOPLE WHO APPLY FOR "UNEMPLOYMENT" ARE) Those are the lazy ones.

  • You're kidding, right?

Unemployment is an insurance benefit accrued by the worker himself and paid for by his employer (ultimately paid by the employee). The actual monthly payment is small and limited to one year to ease employment transition.

  • Disability is a welfare freebie for LIFE payable to people who may have done NOTHING to earn any of it. And it's shocking to you that people are angered by people on disability? How does that shock you? People's paychecks are robbed so that SSI scammers can live comfortably on the dole? Get used to it. It's natural for people to hate those who take everything and contribute nothing.

  • You are generalizing, though. Not every single person on disability (and mind you, I am NOT on SSI or SSDI so that doesn't apply to ME, I am just defending some who are on it) has "done nothing to deserve benefits"... from what I understand living comfortably is a stretch. Some people genuinely do need the benefits and DO contribute or have in the past, so it's not really fair to just throw out blanket statements like "i hate those people who are on benefits", it sounds ignorant.

  • Living off a $674ish/month (depending on which state you live in) SSI benefit would hardly allow anyone 2 live "comfortably." The most ppl who get SSI are children/young adults who grew up disabled and don't yet have adequate work history 4 SSDI or those of retirement age who never worked because they were the stay @home person while their spouse worked. Not everyone with a disability gets SSI-many people on SSI go 2 work and leave the system and/or decrease the benefit they get.

  • NO iam not kidding. Soo many people work for a certain period of time and quit or get fired on purpose just soo they can start receiving unemployment. There was soo many times where i could of gotten unemployment but chose not to and chose to keep looking for work. You are right, there are SCAMMERS out there who receive benefits that absolutely shouldnt and it fucks the rest of the people who truly deserve them. Like for example people who fake a "physical disability" that go around wearing...

  • Anyone who quits is avbsolutely not entitled to unemployment. If a person tries to get fired on purpose, the employer can appeal their unemployment benefits and they won't get them if it's found they were terminated for cause.

  • I've seen people who have mental disabilities applied to benefits because they are denied work either by potential employers or somebody else. I think that people with mental disabilities are more than capable than more they are given credit for. I believe people with mental disabilties should have the right to work, and live a independant life.

  • There are always going to be douchebags who are going to take advantage of things; why would someone take the help away from people who need it because those few pricks are smart enough to con the system?

You're very composed. Good on you, XsullengirlX.

  • Excellent point.

  • no i,m not angry cos my son is autistic,i just think you have a generation of weak people, spending to much time on the net, talking to people who think its trendy to be depressed, stop listening to morrissey and the smiths and get on with life,at what point do you want people to keep wiping your backside for you, your an adult, yes i feel really low sometimes, but cant afford to just sit down and say f..ck it,let someone else deal with me and my problems.

  • You know Jason I feel where you coming from but yor still off base. Right now a got a cousin since 12 who has been depressed. Everyone assumed he would get over the deaths of the ones he loved they assumed tough love would fix him but it hasnt. My man has developed paranoia locking doors, staying away from the sun, sleeping with a knife. He says he hears voices that blame him for people dying.

  • I mean lets be real Jason would you rather have a homicidal manic depressant bipolar dude at his house trying to find the right medicine to become normal or you want to force him to work knowing hes an emotional threat. Want him to drive your kids to school? Be a cop? Work right next to you? My only prob with the system is it dont rehablitate those with depression enough its basically get your money mix pills and let us know when your healthy

  • year....I REFUSED TO APPLY FOR BENEFITS, BUT they way i look at it, is iam a human being, i need money too survive, and for the necessities of life, but with my disorders, i cant have an everyday normal life, going to work, etc......i did what i had to do to survive.

  • "with my disorders, i cant have an everyday normal life, going to work, etc......i did what i had to do to survive. "

    What makes you believe that?

  • Do your family and son a favor, and see if he qualifys for disability benefits for autism, itll help you out alot financially, or are you too dignified? EVERYONE IS. I was told 4 years ago that i qualify for disability benefits, most people would jump at that chance, because like i said its basically getting 'FREE MONEY".....but obviously have to have some kind of physical and mental disability, but I told myself that i would leave that has a last option, i finally applied for benefits last...

  • huh,i dont get this, whats your disability, depression,or something, get in the real world,in days of old people couldnt just say im feeling low,you all support me,i got a autistic son,who hardly sleeps, has violent fits, needs so much support, and routine and we still work, and dont tell me i dont understand depression cos i do,i have to pay rent, council tax, water, gas ,phone,i broke as fook, but we got our dignity, get off the internet, thats why your depressed,oh yeah, plz grow up,get a job.

  • From my point of view, your pissed off at the situation your in with your son, and financially. Your taking your anger out on someone with a mental disability but yet YOUR OWN SON has a mental disability. Why dont you tell your son to just "grow up,and get in the real world, and get a job". Your a perfect example of wht i was talking about, YOU PEOPLE who have never suffered from a severe mental disorder are just jeolous cuz people with severe mental disorders basically qualify for "FREE MONEY".

  • He feels like everyday someone is out to kill him dont sleep dont eat normal. talking to himself what im getting at for some its more then just fuck it. They trapped in thier in mind. You know its easy to judge and say their nothing but babies you show me a baby who smiles one minute and ready to kill someone the next.

  • 2dwaithy: i am not encouraging that you deliberately stop working and job hop, You shld sincerely try to keep a job, but try and explore different avenues. I fought going on soc sec disablty for over a 10 yrs i loved working but my mental/physical health didn't match my desire.

  • 2dwaithy: cont. i c both psychiatrist &social worker 4 free. now that i have medicare & medicaid those insurance plans will pay 4 it.your job hopping believe it or not will help your case shld you file. try & work different jobs b it warehse, office, telemkting/phone, maid/hsekeeping.this will show the judge that you have tried different jobs in different environments but 2 no avail.this is what happened 2 me. I also tried cna and nursing school. I thought this wld hurt me it didn't. it helped.

  • 2 Dwaithy: I was referred to the emergency room (by my doctor);the er then referred me to an agency that allowed me to see both psychiatrist & social worker. Plus recv free meds: via the pharmacutical companies. The drug companies have patient assist programs for ppl w/little to no insurance. chk and see if you qualify for medicaid. Also, see if any medical clinics &/or health clinics hv a sliding fee program. they in turn can also help you get on a patient assist program via drug companies

  • I have a physical disability: post polio syndrome and spinal arthritis aged 60. My OWN SISTER saw me at a grocery store in a mobility scooter and said that was the lazy man's way of shopping for groceries! I can no longer work and can barely walk! It's easy to see how the attitudes can spread especially when those close to you can adopt these ideas.

  • This is why I haven't signed up for social security. I am young and I have only had 2 jobs but I have suffered from major depression disorder my whole life. The jobs that I had were very social and I couldn't handle the stress of that and other things in my life. I would end up hating my life on the days that I had off because I knew that it wouldn't last. I don't know where I could work that doesn't have much social contact and I am dead broke. I should probably get back on meds, but I'm broke.

  • i love your hair here.

    xx

  • I called the Soc Sec Nat'l ph# yesterday, and was told that I was approved!!! I will also be receiving Medicare & Medicaid. Again the process had taken two plus yrs. 2 those fighting the fight: pls don't gv up! One thing I learned is that persistence is the key. 2 those who feel that I'm hustling the system: just remember, your disability cld be just a nervous breakdown &/or injury away. Treat ppl the way you wld want 2b treated. It's not a hard concept to master.

  • I applied for SSI disability in August of last year and im still waiting for my dam hearing. Due to not working for a year and half, and not being able to hold down a job in the past, due to my mental disorders, im in soo much fuckin debt. My lawyer better help me win my case, and have a fair hearing and get the money i deserve.

  • People or "Outsiders" who have never suffered from a severe mental disability, who can have a normal everyday life, having job, relationship etc.....talk shit because thier jealous, because people who recieve disabililty benefits are basically getting free money. My ex made a real mean comment, cuz i told her that i qualify for disability and she said "YOU PEOPLE" are one of the reasons why we have to pay taxes...fuckin bitch, glad i knocked her out. Disability is a bitch waiting for though...

  • that sign u belive of PEACE

on your sweater is a CROWS OR RAVENS FOOT and means you DENOUNCE CHRIST IN PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE

so just dont wear symbols they are evil

  • im on disability for bipolar type 2 rapid cycling.... thank u for this video.... people dont realize the demon on our backs (people with mental illnesses) the government knows very well, and which is why they give us disability to keep track of us and to make sure we are putting some into the systms while bein drugged up or dumbed down by medications

  • do you know where people go to apply for benefits? and like you, I have worked in the past and have paid taxes into the system. I am just not sure of where to go for finding out things like this.

  • By the way not sure if I mentioned it but I am currently appealing the decision.

  • I think an accurate way of accessing whether someone who has a "mental" disability is really eligable for help is to see what sort of social life they have. I currently have no social life. I can't go to bars and clubs. If I could I would hold up my hands and say "if i can go out enjoying myself I can get a job". But I can't get out. My life sucks right now. I would only be a freeloader if I was spending my benefits on beer!

  • That's a very interesting video and very relevant for people living in the UK right now actually. Here in the UK there is a current drive to get people off disability which is fine but genuinely sick or "disabled" people are suffering because of it like myself. I suffer with severe agoraphobia right now and like you I have worked in the past and paid into the system. Recently I got my benefits stopped. How on earth I am expected to get a job when i can't leave the house is beyond me!

  • but i think you and my mom are right i shouldnt' feel bad or ashamed if i need help or feel like i'd be a bad example for my baby. besides if i get the help i need then i think i'd be a better mom cuz i'd have the resources i need. it means alot that your standing up for ppl on disability. hugs and thank you so much for being the voice for people like me. your video touched and motivated me and i can't thank you enough.

  • i wanted to let you know i appreciate your video. i personally have been thinking of seeking disability help. my mom is supportive of it but i have had some family members put it down kinda acting just like the hatters you get. also i had someone say that i would be a bad example for my baby if i got on ssi that would teach my kid bad things and to mooch off the government. i am pregnant at moment that really hurt cuz i want to be a good mom so since then i been tad shy of reaching for help. :(

  • Good for you. I know dam well I put enough money into the system. You don't have to look disabled to get disabilty.

  • your videos are great i am in proses for disability i have vary bad anxiety, cutting, eating disorders, and i have a learning disability and i have tryed to get a job its so heard to get it i had to get a lowyer to try to get it im still in prosses and im 19 and my sister thanks im just lazy great video

  • I assume this girl supports a private account system then? The problem with the way social security is funded is that its so arbitrary, you could work your whole life and never use it or you could use it and never have worked.

Therefore private accounts are best, but then again, why don't people just voluntarily put aside some money into a fund designed to support them if they become unable to work?

  • Heard you repeat the comment that a user left on what they believed considered a disability is via loss of limb or sight. Just want to let others know that the one organ that is over look is the human brain. Those that are seeking medical help and support for mental illness which does effect the physical body should be applauded that they are facing and fighting to live a happy normal life. I rather see a person fight the odds then let life bring heartache to them and others.

  • I wish the video explained why she is on disability. She speaks very well & seems to have a clear mind so I don`t see anything mentally wrong with her. She certainly doesn`t seem crazy, but maybe she has crazy episodes in that case she should just say it then ppl would understand why she is on disability but for someone that is physically fine & acts mentally normal it is hard for ppl to understand why they claim they can`t work. If they can`t deal w/ppl, they could work w/things. I don`t get it

  • I go in and out whatever I have, and I'm actually fine for work if anyone would hire me in a low stress job and understand if I needed to get away from them every once in awhile, like a break, and if I talk strangely or have odd logic randomly after seeming intelligent for the longest time. I don't even know how to find a good job, and I have no skills, so I'm stuck in school right now. I need to become a janitor, but it's hard right now. I'm a bum. Ppl always hate me.I don't care anymore.Apathy

  • Why don`t you work with computers, data entry, engineering, mechanics, truck driving, etc. These kinds of jobs you don`t have to deal w/the stress of ppl so much. As for being a janitor, that is an honorable job. W/out janitors we`d live in filth which breeds disease. Ppl should be grateful for all janitors. You are NOT a bum if you work.. As for haters, rise above them. They`re living on the lowest rung in life. Don`t give up. There are better ppl & things in life for you.

  • yeah if you people acuse someone on support and you think there lazy that's utter bullshit it's not like everyone on some kind of benifit or support won't be on it forever.

  • Everyone knows these programs dont work SSI/SSD. That being said I would like to see a universal welfare system that would cover everyone, that could basically be receieved in exhange for SS retirement benefits. Perhaps free standardized housing. This way everyone would receive the same benefits and those who do receive them have to pay them back through SS witholdings from their check. To me this is a much better alternative to SSI/SSD and would encourage people to work. Just a thought....

  • I have some Disabilities but they are mental so kinda different...:(

I have ADHD, ODD, OCD, i'm bi polar, and i have Dyslexia it totally sucks i wish i didn't have them

  • Great video, I agree with your points you made. Try to not take all the hate comments personal on youtube. In person you don't get comments like that because people don't have the guts to say the nonsense that they do on youtube face to face. Keep in mind that many haters who type rude comments are some kid who is trying to get attention in anyway they can because they lack any sort of confidence in their own lives. Sullengirl, YOU make sense and express yourself well.

  • I agree with you, mental disability can be very very hard to live with - people without it just will never understand what its like. Don't let them bring you down.

    Your very pretty btw

  • 4 me the ability 2 retain a job & be a productive citizen is a dream. I use 2 aspire 2 lofty goals: ceo, lawyer etc. Now if i could be an office clerk that wld be nirvana. 2b able 2 focus & process in a consistant/normal way is a luxury 4 me. I don''t want much. Just a place of my own (studio apt w/dog). 2b able to support myself= better than lotto. I wish normal ppl cld realize how blessed they are that they can control their mind as opposed 2what i have: a mind gone rogue. Pls be kind.

  • Amen to that brother AMEN to that the people without our issues are sooo lucky kinda like they all have hit the Human brain lotto and we are Human brain poor LOL

  • thats EXACTLY how i feel, we CaNT control our minds, people who down us dont have these kind of thoughts surface in their minds, THATS what keeps them from understanding

  • My response from ppl has been a mixed bag. For yrs, my closest friends had been urging me to apply 4 soc/sec, but I had resisted due 2 fear of what others wld think. However, I finally relented when due 2 my physical/mental illnesses prevented me from retaining several jobs. The negativity came from certain relatives (note:I didn't refer 2 them as family). Ppl who labeled me lazy, & who think ignorance is a reference source. Yet,@ the same time they said I was always weird. Go figure.

  • It's unfortunate they don't give ssi/ssd recipients enough money to live off of, but I hate the stereotypes and stigmas as well, as people think they'll never get sick or injured, the pretentious attitude that it will never happen to them, but ya never know.

  • Yeh, I hear ya BLUExEYEDxSLICKT. SSI/SSD also has the PASS and self sufficiency program. Always consult with your dr. before you take a job, and perhaps work part time, and move up in hours if ya can. SSi gives you a trial work period and keep in touch with dr's for case reviews. Report all other income to SSI/SSD during the trial work period.

  • Anyways To see every issue I brought up on here you will scroll 17 comments from this one and read up to this last comment I'm writing now. Then what I have been ranting on about will make sense. Dont read this comment and the down you will be sooo lost lol

  • I mean give us disabled people credit its a Bitch getting on disability it took me 2 years and staying in a Mental hospital at 18 and finally I got SSI. Then its a battle to stay on benefits its no walk in the damn park. You try getting help they use it against you and TRY stopping your check saying your better when THEY have no proof you are better or as they say Improving. They really are out to get you off it no matter if your better or not

  • Also they took that 2 dollar to 1 deal out my disability when I tried working and when I got fired I my SSI had been 25 dollars a month before I lost the Job and when I told them it took them 4 months to get my SSI back to the stupid un livable amount of at that time 637 a month. So 4 months they fucked my bills up getting it fixed back and then at Christmas of 2007 as well I get a letter my benefits were stopping

  • I agree with you, and btw, America is the one of the

few countries in the western world whom doesn't take care of it's people. Mental illness is just as debilitating. BTW, VESID, TICKET TO WORK program associated with SSI/SSD help retrain and educate people to get back to work in despite of their disability. SSI/SSD takes one dollar for every two you make if you can somehow be rehhabed back to work, for more than a year vs. your condition improving, . All the best.

  • Spakyle I know that trick of ticket to work they tried on me. I thought I was on that 2 years ago and wasnt so a battle with to keep my check happened. They use that ticket to work to trick you and use it agaist you as they did me. I wont fall for there scheming tricks again to up and stop our disability. That 1 dollar to two deal is bullshit. How is anyone suppose to get off it if they do that shit.

  • Also when I tried working 2 years ago I worked night stocing at safeway and ended up once again getting fired 4 and a half months in I was making 1200 to 1500 a month at times by the end of it working 7 days a week then get fired. People say I should've sued but didnt now its too late now. Anyway my Mental issues Multiplied doing that job anyways but I tried and failed and they used that job agaisnt me but I won the court battle

  • You make some great points about people looking down on those on disability benefit - which is intself is crazy as you 'earn' like 0.1% on benefits compared to people in work.

I think most humans are sheep and just follow the crowd and are unable to think for themselves.

I had to go to court to get my benefits re-instated and I've been housebound for 15 years.

Interestinglly (and sadly) many people who are prejudice and discriminatory against people who are 'unfortunate' in life are doctors.

  • I hear ya bro I just fought them to last year they sent a letter out the blue saying I'm better and benefits would stop I appealed many times and fiinally won. I always stay in my house to have been for 8 years now.

  • I understand what you are going through. My mom is on disability for something called "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome" and "Tarsal Tunnel." They are conditions which affect her feet. It causes extreme, flaring pain because her nerves send unnecessary pain signals to her feet. She can walk and you cant SEE the pain so people don't really understand. But she actually has to get shots into her SPINE so that it will numb the nerve. And she still CANT walk for more then 10 minutes at a time.

  • I just read your comment, and WOW! I have CRPS, and find it is a poorly understood problem. I have spent hours researching, and the future doesn't look too bright. I hear there is an experimental operation that has had some success in some part of California. Could you ask your mother if she has heard of it? Even if its experimental, I would like to try it---anything would be better than living with this hell. Mine started in my left wrist due to an injury. Take care.

  • So untill you haters live in our shoes don't judge. I hate being disabled I hate that I can't do things I did in my teen years. I stay in my house as the years go by missing my daughters school programs yearly cause I get too nervous to attend. Every years I get worse and worse so don't tell me cause I'm young and don't look disabled that I'm not You don't know shit about me or what I went through as a young kid. Lots you don't know LOTS

  • LOL you have to be getting mad I'm leaving so many comments I just have to talk about this lol. I also hide I draw SSI cause I get Judged right off the bat my wifes parents judged me from day 1 without getting to know ME. So I hate them. Her step dad is a cop so you know how that is lol. By my youtube vids I seem just fine its called hiding in my house and I'm comfortable outside my doors I have major Anxiety and can't function normal.

  • Anyways again lol continued from below as I was saying there was many other issues I had that I was slowly finding out about myself as I had and lost Job by job growing up. I found out I had many issues Mentally and was able to be approved for SSI since I never payed enough taxes in to draw SSDI in which I got screwed cause I have a wife and 3 kids and myself to take care of off just SSi the wife WON'T work so its hard. But I manage it well. HEr parents and I never got along cause of my SSI

  • Sorry I lied lol I said that last comment below was my last lol. Anyways the beautiful lady making this vid I so understand what your saying in this vid as I am on SSI have been since I was 18 and I'm 27 now. I worked ever since I was 14 for my dad that owned his own Construction company as a kid and all the way till 18 with differemt Jobs and as I aged I started to notice I can't handle pressure and crowds so I started snapping at EVERYONE in my path. I couldn't hold jobs, so..

  • This is my last comment from the other 3 below, Like she said in this vid, The people that wine because someone doesn't look disabled is so un mature lol. So I guess if a young woman is a model and goes to church and behind close doors is a Serial killer then you all would say NO WAY she doesn't look like one so she can't be. A point I'm making of course but thats crazy to run your mouths about someone shouldn't be on disability cause they don't look or sound like it LOL Cause I get that a LOT!

  • Again contiued from below, So then what after your on retirement and get back ALL you payed in your whole life which will be payed back to you within two full years. Everyone else thats paying taxes will be paying in for you to. So you fucking judge MENTAL morons are bitching at yourselves LOL. Plus why you even bitch at people that are young and on Disability while you aint? The less disabled work and not pay in taxes the less they get monthly when if you can work you will get MORE

  • My comment contiued from below, People wine and bitch about people on SSI or SSDI and they dont know shit. The ones that say I'm sick of paying taxes for lazy ass disabled people to get my tax money LOL. Your the idiot we all at one point in life will be getting our ass's payed for by another when we ALL retire. Do you really believe your tax money you pay in ALL your life will support you during your retirement after two years? HELL NO! What you payed in will be payed back and then what?

  • Everyone is Un Educated on SSI and SSDI. Two way different benefits. SSDI is what all tax payers pay into and SSI is NOT TAXES out pay checks from your JOB. Its Tax REVENUES that pay SSI. HINT--- Buying shit in stores as we all do pays SSI benefits, Medicaid, School Program funds. My point I want to make will be in my next comment

  • I know someone who has a personality disorder recognised with sociopathic behaviour by the health service and he refuses to go on benefits. He still works. Your point about already paying your dues for the last 5 years through tax deductions IS THE MAIN VALID POINT... .

  • Also..... all you people thinking that you're shelling out cash for people on benefits who you don't think need them...just think about all the cases who do really need them but want to stay under the radar working next to you day in day out sacrificing their fair share of entitled benefits in the pot in a bid to appear "normal". Comfortable with that? Hey... I'm a generous guy.

  • i'm on your side i agree but u know what? i feel u should not give a f**k what people think of you.your you thats what makes u special.

  • Thank you for this video, you're so right. People without mental disorders do not, and cannot understand. Mental disorders mostly have physical reasonings behind them, so how is that any different from being physically disabled anyway? It just affects your brain as well. I remember asking a question about disability before, for Mental illness, I got a really long rude email about a page long saying I'm young and lazy and trying to siphon tax money. Sigh, it's frustrating, only we get it.

  • I totally understand what you mean. I am physically and mentally disabled. And to have people who tell ones like us who suffer with illnesses that they don't have to live with every day.

I have a long work history. And when I was paralyzed I was not able to work anymore. I am not lazy. I make sure that I pay my bills and the necessities I need. I even help family out. That is not laziness in anyway.

  • Well thought out and intelligently spoken. Your a good advocate for open mindness. Just to stop hate on my page, I'm not disabled and I don't claim either. I work

  • sorry to hear you've been getting so much grief about getting benefits for depression. i think depression that is severe enough and is something you've been struggling with for long enough is a perfectly legitimate reason for benefits. in fact as someone who is blind and married to someone with severe depression, i think between blindness and depression, depression is the far more debilitating disability.

  • people are hypocrites its easier for them to judge then understand because they never walked in our shoes! since i was little i was always the shy one and anti-social i still am to this day i hate it but what can u do.i keep to myself and hate talking or being in crowds big or small and im constantly depressed and suicidal and i know what its like to be judged by family and friends and have a low self esteem becuz girls in high school would tell u that u are ugly

  • ...(continued) I can´t get many jobs. Which just shows the system here is REALLY stupid because you need the benifits if and when you struggle to find work because of your diabetes NOT when you are too young to work in the first place! All in all I may have free healthcare as do we all in the UK but the benifit system is so totally screwed up its unreal, for us that can´t get a job for real reasons like we have mental disabilities or life threatening conditions like diabetes.......

  • Your actuly really lucky, here in the UK unless you have needed over a months insititutionalizing you can´t get mental disability bennifits. Which to be honest sucks emensely for me. In the end the only way I´ve been able to cope is to lie on most CV´s saying I´ve never had any mental health issues just so I can get the job and just pay for myself in genral. Another thing that sucks is that after 16 I don´t get any benifits to help me cope with the fact that because of my diabetes...

  • You dont need to explain yourself to anyone! Noone else lives in your shoes. I know you dont like to hear negative remarks and unfortunately sometimes that's all some people want to do. Focus on what matters, your well being. Surround yourself with positive people and remember you are the ONLY ONE who walks in your shoes.

  • I agree completely!!!1

  • If you're not trying to get off disability, you're lazy. Now-a-days, everything is a disability. My best friend is an amputee who works his ass off, and collects zero, yet people less disabled want the government to support them. Either rise above it, and be productive, or kill yourself and stop being a burden on the advancement of the human race.

  • You ignorance and hatred of what you do not understand is a burden upon the advancement of the human race. How dare you say how any individual other than yourself, reacts to physical or mental pain. Everyone is different, I to have had many friends, family and coworkers that have some severe disabilities , some are able to work part to full others that are unable too. Also to say one should kill oneself, that's just twisted

  • Like I said, I have no control over your friends or people who are living without a limb, this is completely different and to each their own, it's not EASY to get on benefits and it's very hard to live on them. If you'd have listened to the vid, you'd have heard that I was hoping to get off disability soon. Stop being a jerk, pull your head out and listen before you JUDGE.

  • Yeah my mom is on state disability. she has to get surgery for an injury she got from working backroom retail for 13 years.

  • Why do you even have to justify yourself. We all will be on some kind of goverment benifits in the near future, then nobody will beable to judge anybody else.

  • I agree.

I was diagnosed with depression and ed nos 4 years ago, i have no paperwork or proof, i struggle everyday, I have no health insurance. Im 18 and im curently looking for a full time job...with no experience.I have no clue what to do. Help?

  • high five sista striotypes r sooo shitty....man these people says mean stuff need to stfu because if u dont like something dont say anything.....p.s.

taliafan07 not all of us are christian so stfu

  • I'm with you girl, down with the haters. I worked for 2 years at Blockbuster Video and now I receive about $500/week from various governments to pay for my housing food and internet connection. They me through the ringer to get these benefits - I had to actually wake up at like 9AM to drive to some crummy office downtown, and stand around with a bunch of other people in a room (which really set off my agoraphobia and Aspergers) and wait for some phony evaluation. It took almost THREE HOURS

  • People will never understand mental illness untill they or someone close to them goes through it. some people may appear perfectly fine but high anxiety, depression and loss of confidence can make people terrified of performing every day tasks and if not treated will ONLY get worse, so much respect to you and everyone else who has the courage to seek help.

  • I myself am permanently disabled. My lungs were all but destroyed in a laboratory accident at work. As a cigarette smoker since my teens (40 years or so), I am not eligible for a lung transplant. I am eligible for SSI, but have too much independent income from my own investments to collect anything from the government...just barely. I find this situation almost intolerable, as I too have paid into the system, for many years in my case, and I am not "eligible" to receive anything back.

  • I have no idea what options you have aside from getting an attorney who specializes in this kind of thing, generally they will consult with you for free. As I am only on very limited and temporary benefits from my state and not SSI I am not very educated in other areas of benefits. I am sorry to hear about your situation, take care.

  • Welfare dollars remain in the state. Rich people's money gets invested overseas and spent elsewhere.

  • I really wish you lived in my area, most of the people I know who are on disability are alcholics or people at the drop in centre who have more severe mental illnesses who can barely speak.

  • They need to walk one day in the shoes of a mentally ill person and they will change their tune real fast.

  • Only ignorant and uneducated people would think disabled people are lazy. They're not lazy. They're depressed.

  • yes they are

  • I miss you! can we please talk!!!

  • I am totally disgusted with some of the comments that you got on the other video. I get similar reactions because I'm on incapacity benefit, income support, housing and council tax benefits due to my depression and borderline personality, also being a single mum too I get all the pressure from the UK gvmnt to get back to work. When will people realise that that sort of pressure actually makes people's anxiety worse. I have to fill out questionnaires and have my doctors contacted every 2 yrs

  • i am currently on ssdi for mental illness and i had a hell of a time getting it but i have tried to work several times and at this point in my life i can't so i am thankful to ssdi for covering my medication and dr.s visits. people are judgemental if they don't understand and so the hell with them. keep getting stronger and speaking the truth. :)

  • I dont know if anyone has told you this, but you articulate yourself very well and present your points and views in a very intellectual manner! I applaud your efforts to help people to understand things that they dont particularly deal with on a regular basis!! kudos! I love your videos keep up the amazing work!!! PS: thanks for the twitter mention, currently following :)

  • and just because you "look" fine, doesnt mean you are. thats judging a book by its cover, and its never the right thing to do.

  • i figure at some point that ill have to be on disability, im not proud of that. but when people need the help, others are supposed to be "good neighbors" and help them out. i know when i start working and get paycheck deductions for ssi and stuff, ill be happy as hell, because i know ill be helping someone out that is in the same situation as i once was. it's not easy to sit there and hear crap from other people that dont know what its like to have a mental disorder that keeps them from working.

  • im going to post this in parts cuz of 500 character rule.

    you. are. my. HERO!

im not on disability, nor am i old enough to be. i am 17 and a half. but i perfectly understand where you're coming from. I've been self injuring for over 3 years, and have never gotten therapy due to the fact that the people around me judge others HARSHLY. struggling between self injury, schizophrenia, healing from sexual abuse, and all that crap, i do not feel that others should be so selfish.

  • I agree, my mom should be on disability. She hasnt worked my whole life. She is sick, she can't work sometimes she can't even get out of bed. Its so hard when people ask how she is, and all i can say is idk... its hard cuz i love her but i wish she wasnt like this because it has made me depressed as well...

  • I guess i'll be the only lazy one haha no not really, i am a lazy person, but that's not the only thing that gets in my way, i hope once i become an adult i can get over the anxiety focussing issues and depression and be able to get a job, or even go to an interview without fainting and having a panick attack.

  • Hear Hear!! :)

I remember when I applied for the disability support pension here in Australia and I was so scared because of the rumour of it being so hard to get approved. Luckily, I got it very easily (apparently I'm very fucked up according to the government :P), but if the support wasn't there I don't know where I would. It's possible that I would be homeless right now. The pensions just need to be monitored in a way that people who really need it can get them, but those that don't can't.

  • OMG DUDE!!! I HAVE THAT SAME FREAKIN JACKET!!!! IT ALSO HAS A PEACE SIGN ON THE BACK OF I IN RAINBOW COLORED SHINIES? NO? AND IT SAYS LET LOVE ROCK? NO?

SO FREAKIN COOL!!!! I LOVE THAT JACKET !! I WEAR IT ALL THE TIME !!(ok im good, lol, just had to say that)

  • I really love how you express yourself. You sound so eloquent. I hate how people assume that anyone who's mentally disabled have nothing wrong with them and should just go work because nothing physical is stopping them.

  • Hun, don't worry. You ARE contriubting to your society, even without working at the moment.

You're educating people, that sounds like one hell of a contribution to me.

Lots of love from over the pond. <3

  • wow, youre gorgeous.hey, thanks for posting this .

  • Oh cool. I didn't know you were in WA. I'm in OR. I'm recovering from my disability by the way. Just when it was time to appeal... a miracle. I'm so happy. 2+ years of chronic pain and loss of mobility, so I'm really happy to be walking again, and feeling better, and not having to appeal is nice too.

  • Unfortunatly there are some ppl who get on these benfits just to freeload off the system, and I think thats why ppl have generated this stigma that anyone on them is therefore a freeloader. I couldnt even get on EI when I needed it, simlply because of how i left my last job. Which is silly since it shouldnt matter. its unfortunate that so many people are scared to be accpeting of the things they should be accepting of. Be mad at the right things people, and be nice to others.

  • great video! looking forward to the next one!!
